Strange Acts

Kaiden's POV

As soon as I heard the great doors open to reveal Lilian I felt my heart skip a beat.

She was finally here. I had been wondering where she had been since my men had checked and she wasn't in her bed chambers either. It got me worried but I chose to not dwell fully on it.

I clenched my fists tightly as I watched her approach me with her eyes on me.

Somehow that seemed to get me uncomfortable and not necessarily irritated.

I gulped down the last contents of my drink and placed my cup on the table a little bit too noisily, that it even earned me glances from the pack elders who sat beside me. I didn't bother to look their way.

My gaze was fixed only on Lilian and I watched as she approached me.

She soon got to where I was seated and stopped. I watched her. More like glared at her. I was waiting for her to do the needful and she knew what I was talking about.

Everyone else was expecting that too. For her to bow to me but she just stood there and looked me directly in the eyes. I wanted to cuss at her.

To yell at her, but something about her demeanor made me hold back. There was something strange about her.

Something... should I say, scary? She looked like she wasn't afraid of me. Of the things that I could do as her Alpha.

I was beginning to get fed up with her callousness when she finally decided to bow and she did so. But I knew it was a mock one. One that didn't reach her heart, I could see.

I looked away from her and everyone else did the same. She soon stood up and went to her seat beside me.

"Where have you been?" I asked in a low tone when I figured that no one else was watching us or listening in on our conversations.

"I was at a friend's." She responded in a clipped tone. One that left no room for further questions but I wasn't going to back down. Especially when I heard that she was with someone.

Who was it?
Was it a man?
"Who were you with?" I asked her and I looked at her at the same time she looked at me with a small smile on her lips.

"It's none of your business." She responded and that seemed to get me riled up. What the hell?

"What do you mean it's not my business?" I demanded. "Who the hell were you with?" I asked her, almost raising my voice. A few people glanced at us and I cleared my throat innocently and then proceeded to pour a glass of wine for her, just so that no one would suspect anything.

But that gesture made me move closer to her and I leaned in closer.

"You mean to say that you were with someone else while you were supposed to be with me hosting a feast?" I asked her. She was just so unbelievable.

She regarded me quietly, with that silly smile still on her lips.

"Are you jealous?" She asked out of nowhere.

What?

Jealous?

I wasn't. Not in the slightest bit.
Why would I be... Wait, was I jealous?

"Of course I'm not jealous." I almost said out loud.

Well unless she was with a man then I would just have to fish out the asshole myself first and then castrate him right in the presence of the entire pack members!

"I thought so." She said and looked away from me. She still had that smile on her face. She took the drink I had poured her and took a sip of it before placing it down and smiling at the performance that was going on at the center of the pack meeting ground.

I looked to the center of the pack meeting ground to the mock werewolf war dance that was going on while the pack members were cheering loudly.

They were unable to hear us at that moment. And that was the moment I chose to strike.

I leaned again to her, even more closer now than I had been earlier on. I made sure that my voice was as icy as it could be when I spoke.

I could perceive the soft lavender oils mixed with the soft fragrance of rose petals from her body. I almost shut my eyes at the sweet fragrance. She just smelt so fucking good.

But that wasn't going to make me deviate from what I was going to say.

"I don't know what you have been up to or who you have been with," I said in an icy cold tone. "But if my men find out that you've been spending time with a guy, I will make sure that you watch how I publicly castrate him and then I behead him for secretly seeing the Alpha's mate." I said to her.

I could see the fear that entered her eyes and the way her breath hitched in obvious fear.

Good. Now she was not looking so scary anymore.

I leaned back away from her and took a sip of my drink as I returned back to my calm and composed self. From beside me, she cleared her throat but was silent.
Good.

I was glad that she took the hint. It bothered me that she was scared of the things I said, particularly because I was wondering if she actually had been seeing a guy. I almost clenched the goblet in my fists at the mere thought of it.

Lilian wasn't really that kind of person but still, I had to be sure.

I knew that if any of these were true, I would probably be the one to be blamed since I was avoiding her and had been treating her like trash.

Or so I thought.
I looked back to her and saw that she was calmly drinking and eating without saying anything to me. She just sat there, watching the performance in front of us.

And her silence was beginning to irk me.
She wasn't supposed to be silent at the moment.

I expected her to be probably begging and trying to explain to me that she wasn't with any man but with a woman. But then again, she could be doing that and still be lying. Now I was really bothered.

What the hell was she thinking in that head of hers?
