Confrontations and claims

Lilian's POV

The next day came so quickly, it was so bright and clear, the anticipation for the evening's festivities was in everyone's mind throughout the Blue Moon Pack.

The preparations continued, with the final touches being made to the decorations and arrangements.

As evening came, the entire pack was transformed into a place of utmost splendor, the courtyard and halls glowed with lights and the hum of excited chatter filling the air.

Soon evening came and I stood beside Kaiden, while we greeted the arriving guests with a smile that felt more forced with each passing minute.

My eyes anxiously scanned the crowd, in desperate search for the familiar figure that haunted my thoughts.

Finally, my eyes caught him and I felt my heart drop instantly.

He looked as imposing as ever, I saw him standing among other alphas and I saw the way he stood so commandingly that I almost shivered from fear.

To my greatest relief, he seemed to ignore me, and I watched him as he stood about in conversation with the other pack leaders.

But the unease remained there and I simply found it difficult to focus on the pleasantries that I was exchanging with the other guests.

The night wore on, and everything seemed to go normally.

Kaiden was out of sight and Henrik continued to ignore me and frankly that seemed to make me at ease.

I wanted the night to pass that way. I wanted to remain forgotten. But I soon ran out of luck, you know.

I had run out of luck when during a quieter moment, when all had been forgotten and I had managed to slip away from the main gathering in an attempt to catch my breath, Henrik found me.

I stood in the shadow of an alcove and tried to remain sober and alone, to bask in the quietness of the night and that was when I heard his voice.

"Well, well, Lilian," I heard Henrik's sharp and smooth voice call my name from behind me and my heart skipped a bit before I could even turn around. "How have you been?" He asked me and I turned to face him with wide eyes as I felt my pulse quicken under my wrist.

Holy crap!

Whoever told me that it was the best idea to come out here and all alone.

"Alpha Henrik," I stuttered, as I struggled to remain calm and to keep my voice steady. "I've b-been... Well, thank you." I stammered.

His eyes gleamed with a somewhat predatory glint, and he took a step closer to me.

"I trust you haven't forgotten your mission, Lilian. " He said to me with a smile on his face.

The smile didn't reach his eyes. "You're here for a reason, after all, or don't you remember?" He asked me with raised eyebrows.

I swallowed hard and my mind raced rapidly as I thought of ways to escape from him.

"Of course not, Alpha," I replied in a shaky voice. "I'm doing my job." I said to him as I tried my hardest to not blink.

Henrik's expression hardened as he watched me.

"Good, good." He said. "Now tell me, what information have you gathered about the Blue Moon Pack?" He asked me.

I hesitated as I tried to gather my thoughts. I opened my mouth to respond to him but stopped when I felt a presence behind me.

I turned to see Kaiden approaching us, his expression remained unreadable but his eyes were so sharp with obvious suspicion.

"What's going on here, Lilian?" Kaiden demanded, his gaze shifted between me and Henrik as he eyed us both. My eyes were wide.

From beside me, I felt Henrik's demeanor shift instantly, a charming smile spread across his face.

"Nothing of so much concern, Kaiden my friend," he said smoothly. "I was merely having a casual conversation with Lilian, exchanging pleasantries, is that not so Lilian?" He asked me.

"Yes it is." I said as I avoided Kaiden's eyes.

Kaiden narrowed his eyes, clearly unconvinced. He stepped closer, and his hand reached out to grip mine in a possessive hold.

The touch was firm, almost commanding, and I could see Henrik's eyes on where our hands joined.

"Is that so?" Kaiden asked in a low voice. "Well, I'm afraid your conversation is over now." He said and I looked at him with wide eyes.

But before I could react to what he said, Kaiden's hand slid up to cup the back of my neck, and he leaned in to me catching me by surprise and he immediately and without warning captured my lips in a kiss that took me completely unawares.

The kiss was....kind of forceful, possessive, and left no doubt about his intentions but no doubt it stirred something inside me.

Something that I didn't know until now existed.

I felt a rush of conflicting emotions—shock, confusion, and an unexpected spark of something tender that was beginning to sprout—it all came down so soon and unexpectedly before I could gather my wits and respond.

Henrik watched on with a glare in his eyes on us, it was a mixture of anger and something darker than lurked in his eyes.

When Kaiden finally pulled away, he kept his arm around me, his stance was protective and no doubt dominant.

"Enjoy the rest of the evening, Henrik," Kaiden said to him, in his tone was all evidence of finality.

Henrik's jaw tightened and unclenched again, but he maintained his composure.

"Of course," he replied in a cold voice.

"Enjoy your evening as well”, Kaiden.

With that, he turned on his heel and made to walk away from us, his back rigid with barely suppressed anger.

But before he got the chance to do that, immediately Kaiden grabbed my hand as he took me to the podium to my greatest shock and embarrassment.

I just knew what he was going to do next and I was filled with so much shame and anxiety!
