Tony

Matt surged to his feet, snarling. “You son of a---“
“Mr. Chance,” the human woman said. “Contain yourself or you will be removed from the room.”
I stared at David, parsing through his words. I could hear the words he’d said back in the foyer of our house.
I look forward to seeing how prominent your bond really is.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “You’ve seen her recently, haven’t you?”
David smiled.
I glared at him. “You’re asking for a conflict where there doesn’t need to be one, whelp. Tell us where Lucy is now and perhaps we’ll gentle about it.”
“Mr. Chance, that is not appropriate for this discussion,” the dragon said. “Mr. Bloodborne—“
“It’s alright,” David said. His voice was low and unbothered. He sat forward in his chair, leaning forward with a cold smile on his lips. His eyes glinted with alpha light, bloody red and furious as he let his wolf surface.
The challenge and fury in his eyes gave me pause. David might be an alpha, but he had never displayed this sort of power.
“Listen up, old man,” he said slowly and glanced at Matt. “Both of you. I don’t deny seeing her. I don’t deny spending time with her. Why should I? I’m not being sued for human trafficking and abuse.”
“You—“
“And if you had anything at all between your ears, you would have realized that you’re in the wrong, but let me spell it out for you: Lucy is not coming back to you.”
I narrowed my eyes. “We’ll see about that. What can you hope to do for her, child? You’re not even out of college.”
He smiled. “I’m not going to get into a dick measuring contest with you because I’ll always win.”
Matt growled. “You—“
“I don’t need to buy her from an auction and hold her hostage,” he glared at me. “I don’t need to scare her, force her, indirectly threaten her, or anything else. I give her choices. I give her what she needs, as much as she needs without pressure or hesitance. She can contact me when she wants and anyone else she wants. She has protection, the things she needs, care and support. Why would she ever consider giving that up for the likes of you?”
His lips curled into a sneer. “My relationship with Lucy started long before those disgusting excuses for people sold her to that auction, and now that you’re out of the way, she can have everything she’s never even thought she wanted without fear and without struggle.”
He pressed his hand to the pages. “I suggest you sign the papers, Tony, or you’ll really have a problem you can’t throw money or growl at.”
“You think you scare me?” I asked, feeling my wolf pushing at the magical restraints. They still hadn’t weakened enough to break, but I didn’t need them to overpower David. “Lucy belongs to us, and if you get in the way, you’ll find out exactly why people don’t.”
He chuckled. “I look forward to seeing you, your brother, and your father hauled back to jail.”
He sat back and stood. “I think we’re done here. It’s about time I enjoy my birthday. Let the record stand that I have no interest in willingly helping these to do anything, not even stock advice.”
I snarled and stood. “This isn’t over.”
He turned to look at me over his shoulder. “And on that we agree.”
David walked out. Trent remained behind, scribbling some notes down. The witch looked impressed and a bit amused as she shuffled her pages.
“Well, Mr. Chance, Mr. Chance, will you be continuing negotiations with Liberation Front on behalf of Miss Graves?”
“No.”

I left the building, heading to our car. Our beta climbed into the driver’s seat as we climbed into the back. My fury was boiling. My whole body was hot. If we weren’t on Council grounds, I would have rushed after David and kicked his ass in the parking lot.
“Follow him,” I said.
“Tony,” Matt said. “What the hell was that about?”
“He knows where she is. The bastard is probably heading to go see her right now.” Tony growled. “Next charges through the Council will be against him for interfering with our bond.”
For now, if we simply followed David, we’d find Lucy and bring her home.
Our beta pulled away from the curb and followed David’s car. Trent was driving with David lounging in the passenger seat. His paper crown waved in the wind as they cruised along. He went to the west gate of the Council’s compound and we followed him. Trent spoke to the guard before they drove through the archway and seemingly vanished.
I drew up short.
“Son of a—”
“What the hell was that?”
Our beta pulled up to the gate. The man inside looked down at him.
“Blue Moon, right?”
“Actually, we’re heading after Alpha David,” our beta said. “For his birthday.”
He cocked an eyebrow and smiled. “Sure thing. Have fun!”
Our beta drove forward, but rather than being transported somewhere else, we simply continued down the road. I looked back at the man waving from the guardhouse as another car came through and vanished.
“Since when does Blood Moon use portal magic?” I asked, grinding my teeth.
“I don’t even know what that is,” Matt said, rubbing his head with a deep sigh. “It was worth a shot.”
“What now, alpha?” Our beta asked. “I could head towards Blood Moon.”
“Do that,” I said.
I picked up my phone and called the contact I had inside of Blood Moon.
“I was wondering when you’d call.” David’s voice came through the receiver. He chuckled in my ear as I growled. “Have fun trying to get through the portal without clearance?”
I went still. “You planned for this.”
“That you were dumb enough to try and follow me? Of course. You’re pissed off and predictable. Blue Moon is known for brute force not strategy.”
“Where is she?” I growled. “I swear to the moon, David, you’re playing a game you can’t win.”
“… You know, Tony. It was one thing when everyone really thought that you and Tweedle Dum had found your mate,” David said. “When I was so very sure that there was no way you would risk being embarrassed by picking up a luna you couldn’t keep, when I agonized over the idea that one day I really would have to buy your pups a present because they were Lucy’s too… but when I saw her again and there wasn’t a single trace of you or him on her, I can’t even tell you how relieved I was.”
“Those witches—“
“With her hair cut short the way she likes, still suffering because you and that idiot brother of yours can’t seem to keep your dicks to yourselves or corral all the women you sleep with? The way she curled up to me seeking protection and comfort?” He let out a low whistled. “I started to think you might have been on to something.”
“What?”
“No man can know why the Goddess would grant them a blessing.” He chuckled. “Seeing her happy away from you, blissfully enjoying her life, living, thriving far, far away from you? Knowing that you were scratching up the walls and hearing about your mess with the Hargrave coven? What a blessing. What an honor to watch and be a part of it.”
He laughed as I growled and the phone started to crack as my grip tightened.
“I’m going to enjoy killing you,” I growled. “We’ll paint the streets with the blood of your pack, David. We’ll see what an honor it is then.”
David hummed. “Or I’ll put you down the way you couldn’t put down your father.”
“You—“
He hung up as I crushed the phone in my hand.
“Tony?”
“He found the spy,” I growled. “And he’s all but declared war.”
Matt’s eyes widened. “Wait, a second. When we took over, we said that we wouldn’t do that. There has to be--”
“He started it,” I growled.
Matt put a hand on my shoulder. “You have to breathe. This isn’t right.”
I growled at him. “Breathing isn’t going to do anything for us! He has Lucy. He has our mate, Matt. Don’t you feel anything about that?”
Matt met my gaze and he pulled his hand away. “I thought we weren’t going to talk about this.”
“You can’t be fucking serious!” I screamed. “You felt it the same way I did! I know you did, so don’t pull back just because it’s fucking hard. Are you a Blue Moon wolf or what?”
Matt set his jaw and stared out the window. “You sound like dad.”
All the fury drained out of me as I could hear our father’s voice screaming from so many years ago.
Fight me! He screamed his voice shook the whole room, blowing out windows as his power surged and rolled off his hulking shoulders. Are you a Blue Moon wolf or what?
I shuddered and sat back in my seat, before pouring myself a drink and saying nothing for the rest of the ride.
