12. The Marked Ceremony

David
Of all the things I expected coming to the Blue Moon Pack’s ceremony today, it wasn’t to see Lucy again, let alone her being the soon-to-be luna to Matt and Tony.
My heart felt like it had fallen into an icy lake. My chest was tight. The sight of her wrapped in Matt’s arms, dressed like a dream, had filled me with agony.
“David.” I looked up at Tony’s voice and stiffened as he grew closer, glaring at me.
The bastard had always rubbed me wrong, him and his slacker brother. I hated them both.
“I’ll give you the option to leave if you don’t feel like you can sit in on the ceremony quietly.”
I narrowed my eyes as I saw Lucy and Matt coming out of the room. She looked at me, and it felt like another arrow had been shot through me. In all these years, I hadn’t stopped thinking about her. Finding her again had been the only thing that had helped me stay focused while my father pushed me to take over the pack and carry out his plan.
Kill them all, and unite them under the Blood Moon’s sign.
I narrowed my eyes at Tony, imagining the day that he’d be dead and all of Blue Moon’s property would be mine.
“And if I don’t plan to?”

Lucy
I heard him, and I felt Matt stiffen. He pushed past me just as Tony started to growl at him. I rushed forward, jumping between them.
“Stop,” I said, pressing my hands against Matt and Tony’s chests before they could even start to argue.
Tony growled, his eyes flashing as he glared at David over my head.
“Please don’t fight.”
Matt turned his gaze to me. “Lucy—”
“Everyone’s worked really hard to put this day together. If you fight now, you’ll ruin everything.” I pressed on his chest. “Please. Nothing has even happened. There’s no reason to fight. Please don’t fight.”
Tony turned his gaze to me slowly. His eyes narrowed at me.
“Please?” I asked again.
Tony set his jaw and stood up straight. He turned to someone nearby.
“If he speaks a word, knock him out and drag him out by his hair,” Tony turned back and glared at David over my head. “Be grateful for the leniency.”
“I’ve always been grateful to have Lucy in my life.”
Matt growled, and Tony wrapped his arm around me. They pulled me away from David. As I looked back, I saw several members of the Blue Moon Pack moving toward David, yet David didn’t take his eyes off me. We stared at each other until I was pulled around the corner. I couldn’t understand why he would say something like that and why Matt and Tony were acting like he had declared war or something.
“Matt, I—"
Matt pulled me into another room and closed the door behind him. He pushed me up against the wall and kissed me. It wasn’t like normal, where he just wanted to have a bit of fun. This kiss felt angry and possessive, like he was trying to tell me something, like he was punishing me.
He pulled back.
“Matt, I, really---"
Before I could catch my breath, Tony was kissing me with the same sort of feeling. He pulled away from me sharply and growled.
“Don’t leave this room until Anna comes to get you for the ceremony.”
“But, Tony—”
“Don’t,” Tony said stiffly. “Don’t leave this room. Promise me.”
My jaw trembled, and I dropped my gaze. “Okay.”
He didn’t say anything else after that. They both just left me in the room. I sat on the edge of a couch and stared at my hands, wondering what I had done wrong.

It had to have been at least half an hour before Anna came in to get me. She smiled and bounced into the room. She didn’t seem to notice that anything had happened before.
“Those two!” She cried, pulling out a small makeup kit. “Honestly, couldn’t they have waited until after the ceremony to mess up your make-up?”
“It’s okay.”
“It’s not okay! Oh, there isn’t enough time for this.”
I let her do what she wanted and then followed her out. She stopped me at the end of a long aisle.
“Walk to the altar. They’ll take care of the rest.”
I nodded, trying to focus on that as the music started. The longer I walked, the longer the walk seemed to be. I didn’t look at anyone in the crowd but felt their eyes on me. I didn’t, and I couldn’t even think about how many people were there.
Usually, seeing Matt and Tony would make me feel better, but I didn’t really want to see them right now. Not after the way they’d left me alone in that room and how cold they had been about all of this. As if it was my fault that David was here, as if I had done something wrong.
It didn’t matter since they weren’t looking at me either. They faced the altar where another man I had never seen before stood.
“State your name,” the man said, looking at me.
“Lucy,” I said softly.
“Recite the words,” he said offering me the paperwork.
I looked down at the page. “I acknowledge Matt and Tony, alphas of the Blue Moon Pack as my mates.”
I felt nothing, but man seemed satisfied with it. A moment later, they turned and helped me step onto the platform with them. My stomach turned as the man started to speak. I wasn’t listening. Tony turned me to him. I didn’t look up as he leaned down. Tony slipped his hand around the nape of my neck and pulled me closer as he lowered his mouth to my neck.
“I will only hurt for a little while,” he said softly.
I closed my eyes and clenched my jaw. His teeth bit into my neck. A sharp pain went through me and made me a bit dizzy. He pulled back and turned me towards Matt without hesitating, as if he didn’t want to look at me much longer. I realized that Matt would likely also bite me. I didn't like it. My neck throbbed, and I couldn’t even imagine what any of this was supposed to mean.
Matt pulled me closer and put his hands in my hair, tilting my head back before lowering his mouth towards the other side of my neck.
“I'll make it up to you,” he said before he sunk his teeth into my neck.
I clenched my jaw, trying not to cry out. It really hurt then I felt something strange, like a very focused gaze on me. I turned my head toward the crowd expecting to see David staring at me, but the man who was staring at me with glowing red eyes wasn't David.
