David

Oren looked like he had alot more to say to me, but it didn't matter. He snarled and whirled around, leaving with stilted steps.
"Aren't you going to take your precious pack members?" I asked, glaring at his back.
He snarled over his shoulder and left without another word. The Council representative stammered and stuttered as he was taken into custody.
"I want to know how he got into my territory without anyone alerting me," I said. "And have the barrier deployed."
"Of course," Trent said.I turned to look at him and placed my hand on his shoulder. "If you find a way to murder him first, I'll stand aside."
He blinked and looked at me with a sly smile. "I can't tell if you know, or if you're just being gracious."
Know what? I narrowed my eyes.
"Something tells me I'll find out soon enough." I turned to an Enforcer. "If you could make arrangements to get his pack members' remains shipped back to him... with all the respect due."
He nodded and left. A sense of satisfaction washed over me.
The murdere and thief, a man who thought he was a conqueror was backing down? He was in for quite the surprise when I met him in the ring and gave him exactly what he deserves.
Then, I heard the slam of a door opening. Trent rushed over as I turned around. Amos looked on the edge of collapse, snarling. His scales rippling on his neck. Blue looked so ashen in his arms as he staggered out.
I was going to kill someone. No, A lot of people. I went over as Amos' eyes flashed and turned slitted. He snarled, defensive and furious, clutching Blue to his chest.
"I'll take care of this," I said. "You get whoever was behind this in custody and interrogated."
Trent backed off. The air was thick with the smell of blood, and the sounds of their ragged breathing filled the air. Amos wasn't full conscious, more dragon than man. It was probably only the pain and concern for Blue that was keeping him from shifting.
His eyes flutterd. He staggered forward, his eyes focused on me. I braced my self as he shuffled and wavered on his feet. I swallowed, bracing myself for a fight. Then, Amos reached me and he put Blue in my arms like the most precious thing in the world before collapsing like a house of cards.
"Fuck."
I levitated him behind me and raced to the car. The driver cranked up the car within seconds, and soon after Trent was in the car with me.
"Call the Estate, get Maggie and Duke ready to recieve them. Tell them that it's Amos and Blue."
I heard Trent murmuring, I felt his magic surging through he air as the driver pulled away.
"What happened?"
"The wardens are under a curse. I've warded the whole damn building, no one's leaving until I get back," Trent said. "Fuck, Amos..."
I looked back, gritting my teeth. "What do you think?"
"I think the bomb did go off, and Amos took the blast to keep the damage to a minimum," Trent said, "Or there was more than one."
I growled, then I saw a car following us. I narroed my gaze, looking over Trent's head into the darkness. I pushed my magic to hone my vision, then I saw Oren in the passenger seat of the SUV following us. In the car with him were several other familiar faces: Blue Moon wolves.
"He really wants to toy with me," I said, feeling something vicious and snarling rise up in me. Trent turned his head back and cursed.
"Plan? They won't make it past the barrier."
"I'd rather them not know where the barrier is."
I focused, envisioning the air, the space, the earth thrumming with magic and pushed. I felt the portal wink open, swallow them and close.
"Holy..." Trent looked back at me. "Did you do that?"
I grinned, feral and mean. "I did."
"Since when the hell," he frowned. "The World Serpent. Fuck, David. Where'd you send them?"
"Off a cliff," I said. His eyes widened. "Overseas."
"Jeez." Trent whistled. "Feeling vicious, are you?"
"That's just the start. The time for politics are over. If Oren wants to start a war, I'm hitting him with everything I've got..." I smiled and lifted my head. "Starting with cutting off any and every deal for imports I can, and raising the tax on everything else."
Let's see him deal with a modern day siege.
Trent blinked at him. "You know... It's scary how I forget how much you actually own and have connection to."
I grinned. "Exhilirating, isn't it?"
* * *
It was hours before Amos woke up, covered in bandages, doused in several different potions and narrowly escaping being infected with the werewolf virus. Blue hadn't been so lucky, and I'd had to burn it out of her using dragon fire. I was just grateful that Hito was able to keep her unconcious for it all.
Amos groaned, blinking. "Blue?"
He we still. "Blue--"
His nose twitched. He turned his head and let out a rumbling sigh of relief, gathering her closer to him. His hands shook. He took a soft gasp in as he kissed her head and tucked her closer.
"Tell me she'll be okay," Amos whispered, his voice shaking.
"She' going to sleep for a while, but she'll be just fine."
"That fucker-- he slashed her."
"Who?"
"Oren," he growled. His eyes glinting in the dark. "He tried to infect her. Tried to infect me."
He shuddered. "I felt it. I felt the virus trying to take hold. It was... hell. It should have been impossible, but whatever version of it that Oren has is way worse than anything else..."
I nodded. "It makes sense... since he was the original."
"A-And Blue?"
"If you're worried, you should take her Lorien and have her bathe in the springs... You could both probably use it just to be sure."
He nodded shakily.
"Do you remember what happened?" I asked.
"They were trying to get into the building." Amos stroked Blue's hair. His eyes softened even as his voice grew harder. "They were repelled on all fronts, but it was a close call. I only ended up in the fight because of the bomb being set... They threw a smaller one while Blue was diffusing the bigger one. I didn't have a choice."
I grit my teeth. What the hell had they wanted?
"They were talking about the necklace," Amos said. "They must think it's at the headquarters."
Or they wanted to lure me there to have a chance to follow me.
"Did they mention anything else?" Amos shook his head.
I looked at Trent. "What's your thoughts?"
"As I told Peter, with the Awakening coming, all of this can't be a coincidence."
"You spoke to Peter?" I asked.
He nodded. "Part of that thing I'm not sure if you know or are just being your usual self." He sighed.
I eyed him. Despite the long night, there was something relaxed about him, changed.
"The Spear of the Moon Wars, is actually the Spear of Destiny."
My eyes widened. "That makes Peter..."
"Exactly. Vasil confirmed it."
Peter's line was as old as mine was, but more important than that was what it really meant.
It was the year of the Awakening, a true Awakening, wasn't it?
"Trent..."
"Yes, it's this year on All Hallow's Eve," he smiled. "This has been planned for a long time, and now we're in the final hour."
He sank down. "I don't think I have to tell you what this all could mean."
I nodded. The Awakening, the event that happened every twenty to fifty years in which the veil between the mortal world and the spiritual world were so thin, and the magic of the universe was so active, that rituals that need a lot of power were made easier such as ritual possession or full-on resurrection.
As we grew closer, the veil would get thinner and thinner, Selene's ability to affect the mortal world would grow. A script from an old book floated through my mind about a resurrection ritual.
"Someone of blood..." I squinted. "A seat of souls..."
Trent nodded. "I think, more likely than not, Selene has been using the Awakening to power her movement from body to body over the years... And probably renewing whatever form of immortality is keeping Oren alive too."
He grit his teeth. "Defiling such a sacred event... She's truly lost her mind."
I shuddered. There were plenty of White Moon werewolves, plenty of her descendants alive in the Pack, but if what Trent was saying was true, then only those she'd chosen would be candidates.
Those with power similar enough in scale to her own. My mother had to have been one. I could imagine that Eve had been one too which mean that Lucy was one, too.
I bit my lip and glanced at Trent.
"What do you make of the twins' obsession with Lucy?"
