Chapter 13 - Protection Spell
Amber stormed out of the packhouse to her parent’s home. They didn’t go there that often, but they kept it to move back into once Dominick became Alpha. Amber was so angry she felt her blood boiling. Dominick was her mate; he was to be hers if he did not find his mate by the time he was twenty-five. Who the hell did this bitch think she was coming here and claiming him as hers. She was not even from this pack. Amber walked into her house and went to her room, slamming the door. She had to think of a way to get Dominick to reject this she-wolf and mark her as his mate. She had already told everyone she was going to be the Luna, and she was not going to look like a fool when he marks some other she-wolf at their commitment ceremony. She needed to find a way to get rid of her. There had to be something she could do.

Amber pounded her pillow in anger. She had even rejected her fated mate for Dominick because he was just a warrior. Amber felt she deserved better than a warrior because her father was a Beta. She had to be with someone who had a rank. At first, she thought she might be able to land Lenny, but then he met that girl Allie.
So she set her sights back on Dominick.
Her dad told her to get over it and move on because it was evident that Dominick wanted to be with his mate. She threw a pillow across her room, knocking a vase off her dresser, causing it to shatter on the floor. Amber didn’t care; she felt like trashing the whole house. How dare he embarrass her like that in front of everyone? How dare the Alpha tell her she would be banned from the pack if she threatened Dominick or his so-called mate? He cannot do that to her; she is the Beta’s daughter. She will show them all. Tonight at their welcome dinner, she will make that girl wish she had never set foot in this pack. Amber laid down and started putting her plans together. She could feel her wolf Nia trying to talk to her, but she ignored her. Her wolf had become annoying over the past year. Amber almost wished she didn’t even have a wolf.

As Dominick showed Kaleigh around the packhouse, she could not stop the feeling that something was wrong. She did not know what it was, and even Skylar said she had an uneasy feeling. After they grabbed some sandwiches, Kaleigh asked Dominick if they could return to his room. He could tell there was something wrong, but she did not want to talk about it until they were alone. As soon as they got to his room, Kaleigh pulled Dominick over to the couch and had him sit down.

“Dominick, I feel that someone is planning to do something to us. Is it okay with you if I place a protection spell over us and the entire packhouse to keep out anyone who means us harm? I can check with your mom if you want, but I would feel better if everyone had some protection.” Dominick had never seen Kaleigh look so scared.

“Kaleigh, do whatever you want to. I do not want them anywhere near you if someone has bad intentions. I will mindlink my mom to let her know what you are doing and why.” Dominick wrapped her in his arms, holding her tight, while he mindlinked his mom. Alannah agreed that if Kaleigh felt something was off, she should do whatever was needed to make them all safe. She trusted Kaleigh’s instincts.

“My mom agrees you should do it, Kaleigh. She does not want anything to make you uncomfortable.” Kaleigh thought about the protection spells she was going to place.

“Dominick, can I be alone while I do this to concentrate? It won’t take me long, but it has been a while since I have done this, so I want to make sure I don’t mess it up.” Dominick did not want to leave her alone, but he understood.

“Okay, Kaleigh, I will sit in the loft area right down the hall. Just come and get me when you are done.”
Dominick gave her a light kiss on her lips before getting up.
After Dominick left the room, Kaleigh sat in the middle of the floor and closed her eyes. She first started saying the spell that would protect her and Dominick from anyone that would attempt to cause them harm. Kaleigh repeated it repeatedly until she could feel it covering her entire being like a strong shield. She took a deep breath and began the spell to protect the packhouse. This was a stronger spell that would take a lot of her energy. This spell would prevent anyone from coming into the packhouse with bad intentions. If the person was already in the packhouse, it would prevent them from leaving their current location, and Kaleigh would be able to feel their dark energy following it to the source. She continued her repeatedly chanting, feeling the protection cover the house in its entirety. When she was finally done, Kaleigh was ready to pass out. It had been a long time since she had done that big of a spell. Kaleigh lay on the floor and waited for Dominick to return. She did not have the energy to get him.

Dominick was sitting in the loft area impatiently waiting for Kaleigh to finish. He did not like her being out of sight even though he could see the bedroom door from where he was sitting. After a few minutes, he felt an overwhelming warmth cover his body. He knew that was the spell to protect them. He kept watching the door waiting for Kaleigh to complete the one on the packhouse. He hoped that Kaleigh was wrong and that no one wanted to cause them harm, but he trusted her.
The only person he could think of who wanted to hurt them was Amber. He knew enough of magic that Kaleigh would be able to feel the energy of whoever had dark intentions. If Amber tried anything, she would be banned. Dominick looked at the clock; it had been almost an hour. He wondered if that was long enough for Kaleigh to finish the spell. He walked up to their bedroom door and tried to listen. He heard no sounds coming from the inside, so he slowly opened the door. Kaleigh was lying on the floor. At first, he thought something was wrong with her, but he could see she was just worn out as he got closer.
“Kaleigh, are you okay?” He asked as he approached her. She looked up at him and smiled.

“Yes, I am done. I am just exhausted. Can you help me up? I need to take a little nap before dinner.” Dominick didn’t help her up. Instead, he picked her up off the floor, carrying her to the bed. He laid down with her in his arms and held her tight. She fell asleep immediately.

Kaleigh woke to light kisses on her forehead. She opened her eyes and saw Dominick smiling down at her. She looked around for a minute, forgetting that they were at his packhouse. Everything that had happened that day came rushing back to her, and she realized why she felt so drained. She felt better now, though, after getting some rest.

“Kaleigh, I am sorry to wake you, but if we don’t start getting ready, we will be late for our dinner.” He kissed her on the lips before she could respond.

“What time is it? I feel like I just closed my eyes.” She stretched as she yawned, looking toward the window. She could see it was already getting dark outside.

“It’s six-thirty; you slept for four hours. Our dinner starts at seven, but we are the guests of honor, so we can be fashionably late.”
Kaleigh suddenly jumped up.
“Dominick, I don’t even know what I will wear. Is this like a formal dinner or casual? Oh my goodness, how could I sleep for so long.” She went rushing to the closet, where someone had unpacked all of her clothes. Dominick was laughing at her when he came up behind her.

“Just wear something casual, Kaleigh. You can wear something formal to our commitment ceremony. How about this? I would like to see you in this dress.” He was pulling out a black sleeveless dress Kaleigh had brought with her. It was one of her favorites; the dress was form-fitting and showed all her curves, stopping at just above her knees.

“If the dinner is casual, you don’t think this dress will make me a little overdressed? I don’t know if you have noticed this, but even though I am not shy, I don’t like to be the center of attention either.” Kaleigh was fingering the dress thoughtfully. She did not want to appear that she was overdoing it to the pack. She thought it would be best to fit in from the start.

“We are the guests of honor, Kaleigh, you wear that dress, and I will wear a suit. When the dinner is over, I will enjoy helping you back out of the dress.” Kaleigh blushed, and he chuckled, leaning down to kiss her.

“If you change your mind about our after-dinner activities, Kaleigh, it’s alright. We can always find other ways to have fun. I have waited my whole life to find you, and you have proven to be worth the wait. Don’t feel like you have to do anything to please me or keep me. You have me forever, and that is a promise. I love you, Kaleigh; nothing can change that.” Kaleigh looked into his golden eyes while he talked, and she felt her heart melt. How could this beautiful, wonderful man be her mate? He had shown her nothing but kindness and compassion since they met. That was why she was ready to make love to him. They have already agreed to commit to each other after all.

“I have not changed my mind, Dominick. I love you too, and I want to make love to you. It will give me something to look forward to after our dinner. I really hope the members of your pack like me.” She decided to go ahead and wear the black dress. She grabbed it before heading to the bathroom to freshen up. Dom held her hand to stop her.

“Kaleigh, everyone is going to love you. Trust me, don’t let Amber get in your head. You already put a spell on us and the packhouse, so you will know if anyone has ill intentions. Even my dad’s Beta, who is Amber’s dad, has no hard feelings.” He reached over and ran his fingers through her long gorgeous hair.
Most people in this pack had black or brown hair, but Kaleigh’s was a reddish blonde color that he loved. He also loved her creamy white skin compared to his dark brown skin, they contrasted nicely, and he was already thinking of what their pups would look like.
“Okay, Dom, let’s do this. I don’t want to be late, so let me freshen up and get dressed.” She gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
Dominick watched Kaleigh until she closed the door of the bathroom. He knew she was nervous, but he had faith in his pack and knew she would have no problem impressing them. He went over to the closet to get out a black suit. Now that her clothes were in the closet with his, her scent seemed to have settled over everything there. He took a deep breath enjoying her intoxicating scent. He decided to wear a black shirt under his black suit; they would both be dressed in all black tonight. Just as he finished putting his shoes on, he heard the bathroom door open, and his mouth fell open. He thought his mate could not get any more beautiful, but the way she looked in that black dress made her look like a true goddess. It fit her snuggly down to her knees, leaving no imagination to the incredible body underneath. She had pulled her long hair up, leaving some long curls around her face showing off her lovely neck and shoulders. The only jewelry she wore was her gold necklace that held the precious stone. He saw her blushing under his stare, and he snapped out of it. Ash was in his head, drooling over the vision before them.

“Damn, Kaleigh, I don’t know if I want you going out there in that dress. You will make every wolf in the house come after you panting. You better not leave my side tonight unless you want to see some fighting.” Kaleigh blushed again as he walked up to her, still raking his eyes up and down her body. She felt incredibly exposed, with Dom looking at her with a dark look in his eyes. She noticed the suit he was wearing was all black too, and he looked incredibly handsome. Kaleigh would do as he said and stay by his side for her sake and keep any she-wolves away who may get too close.
“You don’t look so bad yourself there, handsome. If you get to take my dress off tonight, I get to take that suit off you. That is a package I can’t wait to unwrap.” She kissed his lips quickly before walking to the closet to get her black heels. She was already tall, but she stood over six feet in heels, making her feel a little self-conscious. “Do you think I should wear flats, so I don’t look like I am towering over people?”

“Are you kidding me? You are wearing those heels. You will be their Luna Kaleigh. Go out there with your head high like the queen you are.
Are you ready? It should be prepared to start in a few minutes.” Dominick walked over and took her hand. It was hard for him to go long without touching her.
The little electric currents that ran through his body when they touched were addicting to him.
“Yes, let’s go. I am nervous but also anxious to meet those in your pack. I will be glad when Allie and Lenny get back next week. It will be nice to have some familiar faces around here.” They started heading towards the door holding hands. Kaleigh took a deep breath, ready to face the pack head-on. She squeezed Dominick’s hand, thankful for his calming presence.
