Chapter 47 - Breaking the News

Kaleigh's heat lasted for three days. Alannah had made sure that food was left outside their bedroom for those three days so that no one would bother them. Alannah allowed nature to take its course and decided to wait until they came out to tell them about the impending fight heading their way. Veronica had been sure they would have some time to prepare, possibly months.

Alannah was concerned that Kaleigh might be pregnant, making her an even bigger target. At least they had some witches that would be fighting with them this time. Alannah and Dillon had not mentioned anything to the rest of the pack. They wanted to have a chance to talk to Dominick and Kaleigh first.

As Alannah was staring out the kitchen window, lost in thought, she heard the happy couple giggling heading her way. She smiled to herself, even though she was worried about Kaleigh being pregnant; at the same time, she was excited that she may be a grandmother. Alannah turned around to greet them with a smile.

"Well, it's good to see you two are back among the living." Kaleigh blushed while Dominick beamed at his mother.

"It was a surprise, mom, but Skylar has informed us that Kaleigh is pregnant." Alannah stared at the two of them. She had multiple emotions go through her at once. Joy, doubt, and fear were written all over Alannah's face, and the couple noticed it

"Luna, what's going on? We thought this news would make you happy." Kaleigh felt a moment of dread watching the Luna. She could tell that something was bothering her.

"I am thrilled, Kaleigh. It's just that I have some news to share with you both, and I am afraid it's not good. Please eat some breakfast and then meet me in the Alpha's office so we can talk." Alannah walked over and gave them each a hug in congratulations before walking out of the kitchen.

"What do you think that was about Dom? I am picking up something from her that's not good." Kaleigh squeezed Dominick's hand needing his comforting touch.

"I don't know, but let's eat quickly." Kaleigh nodded.

Kaleigh and Dominick quickly ate some toast and fruit. They then headed up to the Alpha's office to see what was happening to cause Alannah to be so worried. As they walked into the office, the Alpha and Luna were there waiting on them. Dillon gave them both a big smile before walking over.

"I hear I'm going to be a grandfather. Congratulations, kids. I can't wait to meet the little pup." Kaleigh was surprised when the Alpha hugged her and then Dominick. His face showed absolute happiness at their news.

"Thanks, dad. Now, what do you and mom need to talk to us about?" The Alpha went around his desk to sit next to Alannah, indicating that Dominick and Kaleigh should take a seat. He nodded toward Alannah for her to begin.

"I'm going to get right to the point. I know we are all exhausted from the fight with the Dark Sphere; however, we have a new problem on our hands. My friend Veronica from my old coven, the Crystal Moon, has reached out. There seems to be a movement of black magic witches who have decided to wage war on us to try and get the sacred stone from Kaleigh." Kaleigh felt the blood drain from her face as she looked at Alannah.

"Mom, are you telling us that we will have an even bigger fight on our hands than before?" Dominick tightened his grip on Kaleigh's hand. The fight they had just finished was terrible enough, and now they had one coming that may be worse. Dominick felt ice-cold fear thinking of something happening to Kaleigh and their pup.

"Yes, my son. From what Veronica has said, it won't happen right away. She thinks it may not happen for a few months." Alannah looked toward Kaleigh. "Now you understand my reaction downstairs, Kaleigh. I was thinking about this all happening while you are pregnant."

"How are we going to defeat so many witches? I don't think we can do it alone even if Celeste helps us. We will lose so many pack members." Kaleigh felt absolute fear at the thought of these witches uniting and using their black magic on her pack. She couldn't continue to let them suffer because of her.

"Kaleigh, we are not helpless; we are a warrior pack. We can fight them, plus we won't be fighting alone." The Alpha looked at his mate, smiling.

"That's right, I have failed to mention that Veronica has reached out to some other pure magic covens asking for help. They have agreed to assist us in this fight. So we won't be sitting ducks for whatever evil they are planning. Kaleigh, I can see the wheels in your head spinning, and I want you to stop those thoughts right now. No one blames you for what these witches are doing. They have picked the wrong pack to mess with." Alannah smiled at her son's mate warmly.

"Thank you, Luna. More than anything, I don't want to be the cause of anyone's pain. Speaking of which, how are Carla and Amber holding up?" Kaleigh looked toward Alpha Dillon and saw the sadness in his eyes at losing his best friend.

"They are struggling, but Amber is doing a lot better. She and her mate have worked things out. He understands that her rejection was not of her own doing, so he has been helping both Amber and Carla in their grief." Kaleigh was glad that Amber could work things out with her mate; she wished them well.

"Now, enough of that talk. Kaleigh, many of the she-wolves want you to start training them when you are ready. We also need to set up a nursery in the pack house for the pup. We have a lot of things to do, so we need to get busy. When the witches come, we will be ready for them, so let's take it all in stride. Right now, let's celebrate the new pup coming. Everyone in the pack is going to be excited, especially Felicia." Everyone laughed at the Luna's words.

They all knew Felicia would make an excellent aunt, and their pup would be very spoiled. Even though she was sixteen, Kaleigh was impressed by the girl. She was very smart and wouldn't back down when faced with a challenge.

They decided that the Alpha would call a pack meeting where they would announce that Dominick and Kaleigh were expecting a pup. They would also reveal the new fight that was heading their way.

Kaleigh and Dominick knew that they would stick together for this next fight no matter what. They held each other's hand tightly, wishing they could return to the bubble they had been in the past three days while Kaleigh was in heat. Everything had been wonderful during that time, and now everything was beginning to crumble down around them again.
