Chapter 59 - The Human Among Witches

Josephine was enraged. Not only had the White Raven Pack found out that Patrick was working for her, but Kaleigh's twins had been born. Josephine had hoped to kill the witch and her babies before they came into the world. She was almost ready to strike.

Josephine was waiting for the next full moon. She knew that time was risky because werewolves get their strength from the full moon. Josephine, however, needed the moon's power to draw off of if she had any chance of beating Kaleigh.

She was aware that the pack was getting help from others too, but she didn't think it would be enough to defeat her and her witches. She had a whole army of them now. They had killed most of the rogues they used for training. However, some of the rogues had been able to kill a few of the witches.

Josephine didn't care. She figured if a rogue could kill them, they were too weak to be of any use to her. Josephine took inventory and decided that they had everything they needed to fight. The next full moon was only two weeks away.

Josephine stared out the window as she imagined all she would do once she had the stone. She chuckled while sipping her tea. Kaleigh and her pack of mutts wouldn't know what hit them when they arrived.

"Madam Josephine, may I have a word, please?" Josephine turned around with a scowl, making the young maid jump back in fear.

"What do you want, you little troll?" Josephine said between clenched teeth.

"I...I...just wanted to tell you that Polly sent me a message and said that she cannot tell if the twins are Emerald Stone witches, werewolves, or hybrids. Polly said that the Emerald Stone witch is keeping the twins hidden for the most part, so she hasn't been able to see what they look like. She wants to know if you want her to continue watching them or can she come back." Lydia was shaking with fear.

Josephine was not someone she wanted to anger, and right now, she could see that Josphine was seething with it. Lydia tried to calm her shaking body, but it didn't do any good.

"What do you mean she can't tell what they are? It's not difficult to figure out whether they look like the mother or not? Who do I have to kill around here to get some damn answers?" Josephine threw her tea cup at Lydia, who barely had time to move before it hit her head.

"I...I'm sorry, madam, that is all she told me."

"Well, let me send a message back to her then." Lydia wanted to run out of the office, but she couldn't move.

Josephine walked over to Lydia. She took her long fingernail and put it under her chin, forcing the girl to look at her before giving her an evil grin. Lydia was petite with long dark brown hair and big blue eyes.

"You're very pretty, Lydia. It's a shame to have to kill you. My beasts would have loved to have you as a treat." Josephine threw her head back and cackled loudly.

Lydia was shaking so badly that she almost fell. She wasn't even a witch. She was a human servant of Josephine's. Lydia was captured last year when she was eighteen and made to be a servant. Josephine loved to force humans to work for her, among other things.

Josephine was known to force some of the servants to have sex with her, both male and female. If they didn't, she would put a spell on them until they did as she asked, and then she would kill them. Sometimes she would kill them just for the fun of it.

Lydia had been lucky to stay out of her sights. However, Polly had specifically sought her out to tell Josephine the bad news. Lydia knew it was because Josephine wouldn't be happy, and Polly didn't like Lydia. Polly's assigned servant, with whom she had been having regular sex, started to like Lydia, so he began to refuse Polly's advances.

Polly vowed she would make Lydia pay for taking away her toy. She knew Josephine would kill the messenger, and Polly couldn't kill one of Josephine's servants without cause. So Polly had decided to let Josephine do her dirty work for her.

Josephine looked down at Lydia and changed her mind. She knew Polly didn't like her and probably sent the girl here to get killed, so what better justice than to keep her alive. Besides, Josephine thought to herself, she may have some use out of this human yet.

"Don't tell Polly anything. I will deal with her when she gets back. You stay close, though. I may have a new assignment for you later." Josephine leaned down and forcefully kissed Lydia, who gasped in surprise. She didn't move or kiss her back. She just stood there.

Lydia didn't know what to do, but she felt like crying. If Josephine had this type of interest in her, she knew her days were numbered. Josephine continued to kiss her relentlessly, even forcing her tongue in Lydias' mouth while groping one of her breasts. When she finally pulled back, she laughed and pinched Lydia's nipple through her shirt.

"Yes, I have new plans for you. Make sure you are back in my room at ten o'clock tonight." Josephine turned around and walked back to the window.

Lydia was still frozen in place. She didn't want to come back here tonight. Lydia knew she was dead if she did. It was only three in the afternoon, so Lydia decided she would find a way to leave before ten. She would not let Josephine have her way with her and then kill her.

Lydia ran to her room crying. She had to get out of this place. Lydia thought about reaching out to ask the Emerald Stone witch for help, but she didn't know how. No, Lydia decided it was best to sneak out of the mansion and try to find the White Raven Pack on her own.

Lydia would seek their help and tell them about Josephine's plans. Maybe they would let her stay with them until the fight was over, and then she could move to one of the big cities. She just wanted to be lost somewhere that no one could find her.

Lydia put some clothes in a backpack and waited. She would wait for the perfect opportunity to sneak out. Maybe she could pretend she was going out to do some shopping and then be long gone before anyone realized she was missing. Lydia started putting her plans in place.

Josephine heard Lydia run out of the room and knew she was crying. She knew the girl was aware of what she wanted when she had her come back tonight. Josephine wasn't into regular sex, she was into the rough stuff, and the more the other person was in pain, the more she got off.

She laughed at the fear she saw in Lydia's face when she kissed her. Fear was Josephine's drug. She lived and breathed it by putting fear in others. That was why she only had humans as servants. Their fear was the most powerful drug of all.

Josephine thought about her plans for the fight. She was going to send in her weakest witches first to try to wear down the shifters. She would then send in her second string of witches, who were slightly stronger but not as strong as the third string.

When the final round of witches finally went in, Josephine would be with them, and she would head straight for Kaleigh. After she killed her and retrieved the stone, she would then kill Kaleigh's mate as well as the twins.

That would be the end of the Emerald Stone witches, and Josephine would have the stone and rule them all. Power was a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands. After she had the stone, she didn't care what happened to the rest of the witches, she would be out of there, and they could fend for themselves.
______________________________
A few hours after the incident in Josephine's office, Lydia had put on her backpack and was heading out the front door. She had told Miranda, the head of the house, that she was going to the store to do some shopping. Miranda waved at her as she left. Lydia was a good servant, so she didn't worry about her taking off.

Lydia walked down the street at a leisurely pace like she didn't have a care in the world. She even stopped at a couple of the shops, pretending to look in the windows, but she was making sure she wasn't being followed.

When she went around the corner at the end of the street, she stood next to the shop wall for a minute. She then peeked around the corner to see if she noticed anyone from the mansion. No one she saw looked familiar, so she started running toward the forest.

Lydia had no idea where she was going but knew she had to get away from here. Her life depended on it. She would find someone to take her to California to get to the White Raven pack. Lydia had money saved up. Maybe she could pay someone to drive her.

Lydia continued going through the forest but following the road. She was just trying to stay out of sight but not get lost. As she walked, she felt free for the first time in a long time. Lydia was sure she could do this without getting caught. She had to help the Emerald Stone witch and the White Raven pack. Lydia could not let Josephine win.
