Rain's Parents
Never before have I seen Elder Antony so angry.
When he granted us access to his office, he was still in an excellent mood. He was still teasing us about the unscheduled visit. But when I indicated to him that I needed his help in a sweeping matter, his face changed gradually. Silently he listened to my story, his face becoming increasingly stormy as I narrated.
"This is definitely outrageous. The King is abusing his authority and this cannot go unpunished," he roared. "I will call in the Council, Sages of the Kingdom and the former King. I doubt they know anything about this. King Ralph must be stopped before he really gets himself into huge trouble". He jumps to his feet immediately and walks to his desk. "Alpha Jasper, wait for me in the packhouse. Get some rest. You will need your energy over the next few days. I beckon Jace and we leave the building.
"Jace, I don't think I can close one eye until Rain is safely back in the pack," I sigh. "Ooohh goodness, I can't believe this is happening to me. Why is my mate of all the beautiful women swarming around the King so attractive to the man? He can easily find a single she-wolf and get his own pups. Why mine?"
We jump into the car.
"Let's go to the pub. We could use some distraction. This whole thing is frustrating my wolf and me immensely," Jace blows out. "To be honest, I'm ready to go to war with those shit Lycans. They shouldn't think they can do anything without repression," he growls. We drive to a waterfront drinking establishment. It's a place I've been to with Rain numerous times, especially when I had less work in the afternoons. My beautiful mate was always happy when I made time for her and unexpectedly took her there to have quality time outside the packhouse. How I yearn back to that period.
Jace and I take a seat and both order a double whiskey.
It's exactly what we need right now to calm the turmoil in our minds. "Jasper, we need to confirm to Kenston at some point that his daughter is alive. I guess it's not the suitable time right now, he won't be able to hold himself back from going to find her," Jace tells me. I nod. "Yes, and we also need to get Ruth out of Human Town. Her sister's welfare is more important at the moment. Can you take care of that? Send the Jet to get her and John," I instruct my Beta. He goes right into the mind link and relays my instructions to the pilot. Then he takes his phone and I hear him tell Ruth that she and her mate need to pack for an emergency to return home. He also urges her not to notify her parents yet and to come straight to the packhouse, where they will stay for the time being.
"Jasper, do you think she will be able to control herself not to call her parents? She panicked and knew immediately that this had something to do with Rain. You know how close the sisters are," he reminds me. He is right, I believe Ruth is already on the phone with Kenston by now. "Yes, we will have to inform the man that she is alive without further details. We have no choice." We get up right away, both knowing where our new destination is.
When we park in front of the former Beta's house, the door flies open and he runs out with his mate. "Alpha!" he calls out breathlessly. "Do you have news about our daughter? Ruth called to say that you're taking her back home". With a jerk, the pair halts in front of me. "I beg you, Alpha. My daughter. Please, tell us where she is. I can't live like this anymore, this uncertainty is killing me," Ana exclaims painedly. I take a deep breath, this emotional outburst from Rain's parents affects me deeply. "Ana, please. Calm down. Rain is safe. I promise you we'll bring her back in the pack soon. And then I have a surprise for you too," I smile to let them relax at this moment. "Then where is she? Why isn't she coming now?" my mother-in-law questions urgently. I put an arm around her. "Give me all the space I need to work. I don't want to burden you with the details right now. All I can say is that I met Rain, held her in my arms. She is looking forward to coming back but has some things to take care of before that happens," I explain.
The couple stares at me with a mix of joy and concern.
"Did you really see her, Alpha? Did she also say why she's not calling us? Is she in trouble?" The questions are fired at me after my confession. I need to tell these parents more to reassure them. "Please, give me all the space I need to bring her here. She is coming back to us, she has said so herself. But there are some obstacles she has to overcome first," I try again. But it's clearly not enough; they continue to stare at me.
I beckon them to enter the house.
When we are in their sitting room, they turn to me again expectantly.
"Rain is suffering from amnesia. I had to describe a few things about her past," I confess to them. "Magda, the woman who was visiting you a few days ago, was sent by Rain. She knew something was missing from her life and had seen me at a restaurant in Human Town. The waitress told her my name and that's how the friend ended up here". Now I see the intense joy on their faces. "Then why didn't she come herself? Why did she send Magda?" asks Kenston again. "I already had a feeling that the woman's interest was too intense. But her aura was so positive".
"Kenston, as soon as I have more news, you will be the first I notify," I promise. "Ruth and her mate will stay in the packhouse for now. I want them close by".
Fortunately, he doesn't object. He grasps my hand.
"Jasper," he amicably calls me for the first time. "I know you were a wonderful mate for my daughter. There was nothing wrong with you, you obviously love and respect her. I couldn't wish for a better mate for my child than you. Thank you for this. Rain fled not because of you but out of love for you. She offered her love to allow you to be the Alpha the pack desired"....
