Leaving Again
We stay in the penthouse for two days, shutting ourselves off from the cruel outside world.
Jasper handles a few phone calls, returns to bed for another round of great sex, or we order food and enjoy it at the dinner table. And then I realized that my bag with personal items and also my phone were left behind at work. I made a phone call to Natali and she promised to put it away for me in my office. She briefs me that Ralph has come to my office several times to see if I have signed in to work yet. She also promised to report to the human resources department that I would be absent for a few days.
I had to promise that when I returned to work, I would tell her why I ran off with our client so suddenly. According to her, I am the talk of the town, especially now that Ralph's mood is terrible, everyone is avoiding him. After this call with Natali, I understood that I owe Ralph an explanation about my behavior. Of course, I will tell him the truth and leave it up to him whether he wants to continue our relationship.
From Jasper's conversations on the phone, I understand that he is leaving tomorrow night.
So time for me to leave. I have no intention of going back to Storm Forest. These two days have been heavenly, this morning I could barely hold back my tears as I took a bath. If only everything went our way, if only the pack could contain their hatred, our life together would be perfect. But from the looks of it, that's not for us. "Rain, baby," Jasper jolts me out of my musings. He wraps an arm across my shoulders and snuggles into my neck. "We're leaving tomorrow night. Why don't we go to your apartment to pick up your stuff? Then we'll bring them here so we don't waste time and can leave right from here," he suggests.
I nod as I press his head closer to me.
"I also want to say goodbye to my colleagues and pick up my bag at work. I need to take care of some procedures with the HR department now that I'm going to quit my job immediately," I tell him. "And also ask Natali to mail my cars, I can't leave my babies here." The tension that was noticeable in Jasper at first ebbs away. He now seems convinced that I am going with him. "Okay. Let me drop you off there and then call me when you're ready. In the meantime, I'll make arrangements with Jace at the construction site before we leave". I peck him on the lips and enter the bedroom again. I have since washed the clothes I wore when I got here and hung them in the closet. After taking a bath, I put them back on. Using Jasper's hair comb, I fix my hairstyle and walk back to the living room.
Jasper has changed into casual clothes.
But even in this, he looks breathtaking. I smile at him in love; I can't believe this man loves me. With intertwined hands, we walk out the door on our way to the elevator. I crawl into his arms, knowing these are the last minutes we will spend together for a long time. "Rain, you left your credit cards in Storm Forest. I want you to take them back. Maybe you want to shop before we leave tomorrow. When I pick you up, we can hit some malls and clothing stores," my mate says softly, stroking my back.
Smiling, I take the cards from him and hold them to my heart.
Jasper kisses me on the forehead, the elevator stops and we walk toward his vehicle. Within fifteen minutes, we arrive at Conselho Construction Enterprises. I kiss him full on the mouth, smile and get out. "Call me as soon as you're done. Don't forget," Jasper calls out to me. Both of my thumbs go up and I make my way to the company's entrance. When I reach my office unnoticed, I see Natali in her seat. "Hey, Rain!" she exclaims, jumping up and falling around my neck. "Girl, happy you are back. That was a whole lot of a dramatic departure. Just a client comes in and kidnaps you for two days," she chuckles. I shake my head in denial. "No, we are acquaintances. We saw each other again after ages and so unexpectedly. So we spent some time together," I explain. From her face, I can tell she doesn't really believe my story.
"I don't know what's going on between you and Ralph, but ever since you disappeared, his mood has been worse than the harshest winter," Natali tells me, smirking. "He snaps at everyone. Fortunately, tomorrow is his last day. You were also supposed to go on vacation, is that still going to happen?" I sigh deeply. "I'm afraid I won't be coming back. I am submitting my resignation today," I inform her. She flinches at my statement. "Resignation? Have you thought this through? Are you going after Ralph or is it that new client?" Something in her voice alarms me; it sounds ambiguous and I won't have any of that.
"I don't need to chase any man, Natali. I earn enough, my bank account offers me a carefree life," I point out to her. She runs red and dares not to look me in the eye. "How sensitive you are. I don't mean it the way you think, Rain," she defends herself. "But it's striking to everyone that you and Ralph leave on the same day. And a stranger comes in and drags you away by the hand. And we all thought you had nothing to do with men and now you have two on the line".
My lips are already parted to reply to her, but I sense another presence in the room. "I didn't know you were paid here to listen to gossip and spread it, Miss Natali. Or is the work you get too little?" Ralph steps into the secretarial room, his eyes fixed tightly on me. "Rain, can you join me in the office? Please, right now, it's urgent"....
