To The Alpha
I'm rooted in my place.
I wait for Jace to tell me more, to offer more evidence that his Alpha is the Jasper that Rain encountered. And so if she is the one this man is talking about, Saray is the mate of an Alpha. This is groundbreaking news. Rain is about to become a Queen even though she is already a Luna. Complicated, that is what this is very much going to be.
But Jace eats on, and doesn't seem intent on elaborating further on his Luna.
"Are you looking for her?" I ask to get him to talk. He looks up and stares at me dubiously. "Why should I be looking for my Luna?" he asks cautiously. He clearly smells fuse, suspecting there is more to my question. Logical really, he hasn't given any indication that makes my question plausible. I have to be careful not to give myself away. "Hey, sorry if my question came out wrong. It's because you said you were looking for someone," I defend myself. "I have no intention of interfering with your business."
"Your question was intentional. There is also a slight scent of Rain around you," he says as a matter of fact. "Do you know Rain? The truth, please," he demands to know now. His face is tight, in his eyes there is a spark I cannot define. "Sir, lately I've been between so many people. My husband is an Alpha, remember? He receives many pack members daily and their mates often accompany them. And my job is to deal with the women. I don't know if the person you're looking for was among them," I make up on the spot. He stalks my face with his eyes, looking for a sign that I am lying. I may be silly, but I can act like the best for Saray's sake. My friend trusts me, I need to come back to her with accurate information.
Jace sighs and looks at his plate again.
"Okay. Yes, Rain suddenly disappeared. We have no indications she was abducted, she left Jasper a letter," he explains sadly. "Jasper hasn't been himself since she left. The two loved each other so much, but Rain couldn't take the pack's bad treatment anymore and left." Pity, I grip his hand. "What does she look like? Maybe I can recognize her from one of the women who visited us," I offer softly. He hesitates. "Were all the visitors from Midnight Moon? Or from elsewhere, too?" he counters now. "Well, they came from all over. The Kingdom, my mate's pack and also mates from business partners of Esis whose packs I don't know. I am human, as you know. I don't know the packs and can't distinguish between them yet," I lecture him.
Jace thinks about my answer for a moment but finally buys it.
"Yes, we werewolves can distinguish packs by their scent," he confirms. And then a glow appears on his face. "Rain is a gorgeous she-wolf. Small, slender, with a bunch of black hair hanging to her waist. Her eyes are more silver than gray, have a constant glow and can look deep into your soul." Perfectly described. The woman this man is talking about is one hundred percent my Saray. But I want to know more, Jace's comment about the pack maltreating her has my full attention. Under no circumstances do I want to put my friend in the hands of an abusive pack of wolves. I need to know the sticking points and if Saray would be safe if she decided to return. I am not the person to determine her life but I can influence her to make the right decision.
"Have you seen her, Magda?" asks Jace, now gazing at me with excitement.
Disgruntled, I shake my head. "I have to disappoint you. All the women were mated and accompanied their mate," I tell him. "But I'll keep my eyes wide open, if I see anyone with even the slightest characteristics you mentioned, I'll call you. Just give me your phone number". We exchange numbers as I agonize over how to stay close to Jace. I want to meet his Alpha and speak to him myself to get an idea of his personality. If possible, I also want to go to Storm Forest and hear for myself what their problem with Saray is. Conselho Construction is now definitely off the list. I need to think of something quickly, I have little time as Jace is already preparing to leave.
"Hey Jace, you seem to be finding your way around Human Town. Can you recommend a safe place to stay? A hotel or apartment where I can stay temporarily for at least a week," I ask him. He looks up from his phone, on which he is reading some messages. "Sure. My pack has its own hotel here. You can stay there as long as you want," he replies enthusiastically. "I just sent Jasper a message. Told him about you and that there is a slight scent of Rain with you. He would love to meet you. So this is a great arrangement". Wanting to cover my own joy, I nod, clean up the leftover food and throw it in a bin. My plan goes smoothly.
"Agreed then. Lead the way, I'll keep riding close behind you".
In the parking lot, I see Jace get into a sports car. I take a seat in the Maserati and wait for him to speed up before I start the car. We're in Human Town an hour later and I see him driving through the city. And then we enter a closed community and then he moves into a driveway. In the end, I see a huge mansion with tall pillars, there is a parking lot in the front. Once we have placed our cars side by side and gotten out, Jace helps me get my suitcase out of the trunk and rolls it to the house.
"Welcome to the Storm Forest mansion, Magda."...
