An Agreement
Still Rain's POV
"Baby, are you feeling okay? In the heat of the discussion, we forgot that all this could affect your mood". Ralph looks at me guiltily, my fiance is genuinely concerned. "Come, let me take you to your apartment. You need rest. I will ask the servants to get your food to your chambers. Come with me, my love".
He holds me by the hand and leads me away from Ivor and Eric, who are still sitting in the dining room, staring blankly ahead. Ralph's parents have gone through the door like roaring lions, followed by the defeated Sages sighing. This has not become the conversation we were expecting. Meekly I stand up, nothing left to salvage what would have become a great party. Taking my mate's hand, I step into my bedroom. We go straight to the bedroom and lie on the bed, where I immediately snuggle into Ralph's arms. "I'm sorry, my love. I've been pretty annoyed with those Sages. You know how I look forward to our mating. This is going to be stressful. No date!! This is terrible," he let out in frustration, his cheeks leaning against my head.
"My concern is that our pups are in danger of being born outside our official mating ceremony. You know it's unheard of as King and Queen, we've already challenged the Were-laws by getting pregnant without a ceremony," I sigh. "When will the Sages come again?" I ask worriedly. "It's still Full Moon so they have plenty of time to persuade the Oracle to talk. Do you think it will answer this time?" Ralph strokes my hair reassuringly. "You know, we don't need the Oracle to hold our mating ceremony and wedding. Only the coronation has that procedure," he informs me. "We could have the ceremony even before the pups are born." I can feel his enthusiasm growing. "We still have three months to do that. What do you say, Saray, do you want this too?"
My brain is spinning fast.
Magda will surely come up with news before then. We have set aside a month for her research. Holding this ceremony in two months gives us plenty of time. "Perfect, Ralph. If you're sure this isn't against tradition. I don't want to begin my position as Queen by neglecting the Sages. I would rather have them as my allies," I state. My mate lets out a cry of surprise, gone is his earlier agitation. "Saray!!! You make me the happiest man in this universe! Of course, this is not against tradition." He gets up from the bed and takes me in his arms. "Are you sure, my love? This is a wonderful dream. I already feared I had to wait for you indefinitely".
I nod, smiling. "I'm serious, Ralph. That's why I followed you to the Kingdom, to be with you."
And then follows a total make-out until we let go of each other breathless but cheerful. "Come, eat while I tell my parents and Eric about this. We must not starve our pups. I'll come to get you as soon as I get everything in order," he promises fondly. "Hey, Ralph. We have three months before the pups arrive. Try to arrange the ceremony in two months. Then we can give your mother what she craves, a lavish event". Ralph bursts out laughing. "Two months is a long time for a yearning King, but your wish is my command, my Queen," he agrees.
When we arrive in my sitting room Ralph pulls up a chair for me at a small dining table. I watch him go into the mind link and two minutes later, the servants arrive with my meal. It is as grand as it was an hour ago in the dining room. "Take your time, dear. Let me take care of business and then I'll join you. I think my mother's mood will recover within seconds when she hears our plan."
But my attention is already on the food in front of me, so I nod quickly.
My hunger is now boundless, I dig in immediately. Savoring it all, I move from dish to dish until my stomach is full and I can't take in anything more. Delighted, I lean back in my chair as I caress my belly. And then I feel it again, my pups, kicking like world champions boxers. An endearing smile crosses my face. They move and this time more vigorously. My boys. I can't wait for them to arrive. Would they be more like Ralph than me? In any case, they will have the best grandparents in the world. Alidya and Randall eagerly await their arrival, it's always funny how they keep looking expectantly at my belly.
But then I wonder if I still have parents.
Are my parents still alive to see their grandchildren? Ralph constantly rebuffs me when I ask about my past, he clearly wants me to stay in the present. But if I still have parents, they too have a right to their grandsons, whether the twins are heirs of the Kingdom or not. I sigh and stroke my belly again. Magda must come soon with answers, this uncertainty is driving me crazy.
My phone rings.
With difficulty, I get up from my chair and shuffle to my bedroom where the phone is. Looking at the screen, I see Magda's name. "Thank you, Moon Goddess", I whisper. Quickly I accept the call and then I hear my bestie's voice. "Saray, are you okay?" she asks in a whisper. Relieved, I grip the device more tightly. "Well, so much has happened since you left. The Oracle hasn't given a date for my coronation, causing almost the Palace to come down. And now Ralph wants to hold the mating ceremony anyway, you know he'll mark me at that event," I remind her. "I managed to persuade him to hold it in two months. You must have gathered enough information by then, Magda. We won't have more time. The ceremony has to be before the pups are born."
"Don't worry. I assure you I will return with your entire christening record," she replied to my great surprise. "Only I hope it will be all good news."...
