Another Success

Jace takes me to the third floor of the mansion.
As we step out of the elevator, I see a huge sitting room with several sets of couches. About five French doors open onto this room, all with a distinct color. "This is the Alpha floor. Here is where Cleo and I have an apartment and over there, in the corner is Jasper's. You get the one where the Gamma usually resides," he explained to me. "As the Luna of a friendly pack, you are supposed to be accommodated in style. I hope this one is to your liking".
We step inside and I see a larger sitting room and kitchen here than the one in Human Town.
There is a kitchen island where I can also have my meals. Everything here looks expensive and exclusive. "Waw, you guys really live top of the line here. And of course, I am satisfied with this, Jace. Thanks a lot," I exclaim. This apartment has two bedrooms. When we enter the master bedroom, my eyes go big. There is a king-size bed in the middle of the room and a dresser against one of the walls. In one corner, there is a luxurious sofa. Jace opens a door and I see a spacious bathroom with a bathtub. The Alpha is going to great lengths to make me feel at home here, I won't forget to tell Saray about his hospitality.
"Come with me, then I will show you the rest of the pack. Jasper will announce via the pack mind link your presence here," states the Beta. We walk back and when we are back on the ground floor, we walk out of the packhouse again. "Should we take the car or just walk? The weather is nice and cool now, the sun is already disappearing," he further suggests. "Let's walk. It's been a long time since I've walked distances, I'm getting out of shape," I decide. We chose the main road and walked a few meters. Jace points out to me the stores that are open until late. According to him, the pack is absolutely safe, and Jasper takes that aspect very seriously. He does not tolerate crime and those who do take their chances are cruelly punished.
After we had walked for about an hour, I got tired.
My condition is not like it was on the island, the lazy life in the villa without exercising has not done me any good. In the distance, I see a pub. "Hey Jace, shall we have a drink at the pub? I'm exhausted and we still have to go back. Let's blow out there over a drink," I suggest. He nods and within a few minutes, we walk in there. I sigh with relief. We make our way to the bar and then I see a familiar face already sitting there. Rachel.
Jace rolls his eyes. We can't dodge her because she has already seen us.
"Jace, Magda, you guys come sit here. I was also yearning for some fresh air and a drink and so stranded here," she invites us with friendly laughter. I sit down next to her. "Jace took me on a tour of the pack. I chose to do that walking but didn't realize that my fitness wasn't what it used to be and the area was bigger than I thought," I say, grinning at the woman. "I really need to get back to doing more than staying home all day. We have a heated pool but I hardly ever use it". Rachel grabs my hand and as I sit closer to her, I see the similarities to Saray. This woman is older, with some wrinkles on her forehead. Deep in her eyes, her pain is recognizable. I wonder if she has friends or just dreams every day of becoming the Luna of the pack. Jasper doesn't really seem interested in her, which actually makes sense to me. No one replaces their mate for any reason with her sister or another family member.
"We work out here every morning. The older women do gymnastics voluntarily, but all the younger ones are required to attend warrior training," she informs me. "If you want, you can join. It will teach you how to defend yourself in case of danger. Jasper wants us all to be in shape, we have to be able to defend ourselves until help arrives." Rachel comes across as very pleasant, she is easy to get along with. But the sadness is evident in her eyes. If what Jace said about her jealousy is true, she must be feeling lonely. And now she thinks she's in love with Jasper who also rejects her. I take her hand more firmly. "I would love to. I'm not a morning person, though, but I can get used to getting up early after a few days. Joy comes to her face.
"I'll wake you up if I don't see you appearing at the training ground," she offers enthusiastically. "I'm staying in the packhouse too. My parents finally have the house for themselves. They're still young and could use some privacy now that all their kids are out of the house," she asserts. "Yeah, yeah, you moved out to make Jasper's life impossible," Jace snickers sarcastically. I stare at Rachel, unable to believe my ears. "You still have parents?" I ask her, shocked. She frowns at my response. "Yes, is that strange?" Quickly I correct my attitude. "Of course not. Only that you left your parental home while unmarried or mated," I quickly bring up. "My father only permitted me to be out of his sight when my mate married me. I'm just surprised your parents let you go to the packhouse".
Rachel laughs away my argument.
"We're werewolves and I'm already an adult. My parents only want what makes me happy. And now I want Jasper because his mate intentionally left him," she declares dryly. "And I learned that she died at sea," she adds coldly as if talking about a dead alien. I swallow several times; I can't imagine anyone talking about her blood sister that way. If something had happened to Elena, I would no longer be found in the pack. I would move heaven and earth to look for her and get her body back home if she had died at sea. The pain in Rachel must be intense to be this way.
And then I realize that I have achieved another success.
Saray still has parents. She has a total of two sisters and her parents. Now I have to find a way to get to her parents....
