Dumped In Sea

The sun on my face drives me to consciousness.
Slowly I open my eyes, looking straight ahead at first. In front of me, I see sand and stones, and the sound of rushing water hits my hearing. Once I raise my head with a jerk, I am forced to lower it back onto the sand. A bursting headache almost makes me dizzy; I feel my stomach acting up.
I close my eyes again and try to suppress the pain.
Carefully I roll onto my back and protect my eyes with my hand against the sun. How did I end up here? I try hard to remember exactly where and who I am. Whether I have friends and who my parents are. All went blank. My head is empty. Slowly I sit up now. I notice that I am on a beach with a vast sea before me. In the distance, a flat lifeboat lying ashore. I stare at it. Did I sail in this to this beach or am I just living here and came here to fish in the shallow water?
After fifteen minutes, I know what this is all about.
My memory is wiped out, there is nothing I remember. I could go up to the island and find my family waiting for me somewhere. When I am on my feet, I notice I am dressed in an oversized sweater with only a pair of panties underneath. Ooohh well, maybe I was worrying needlessly and was just swimming here as usual. My memory has probably let me down temporarily, in an hour or so, I'll remember everything again. I now look inland.
I walk closer to the turf, there is a strip of low weed but to the back, it is just dense forest. Someone must live here, the beach seems to be used often. So I walk along the edge of the turf until I finally see a path into the woods. I was right, I am not alone here. Having followed the trail for several hundred meters, I now bump into a vegetable plot. Beds are made with drainage ditches and all kinds of vegetables grow lushly in the sun.
I creep closer and hear voices.
Men's, women's and children's voices. They speak a dialect I need help understanding. Quickly I go behind a tree and squeak in the direction where I hear them. Yes, there they are, three women, one of whom is clearly the mother of the two girls. There is also an older man and a younger one. So this is a family of three children with their parents. They are very tanned, clearly, they are farmers and used to working in the sun. I look at my own skin color. No, I'm definitely not used to direct contact with the sun. And their physique differs from mine, the women's muscles are better developed than mine. I certainly don't belong to this family, but maybe they know me and can show me the way home.
Still I decide to be careful.
These people seem harmless, but caution is not a luxury. My plan is to wait until the women are alone and approach them. I sit on the ground behind the tree to wait. The family chats happily on, I see the women washing vegetables and the young man in a pen, grabbing a chicken. When he takes out a sharp knife and puts it to the beast's throat, I freeze and quickly hide behind the tree again so as not to witness the chicken's fate.
I see smoke rising in the air and as I turn my head around the tree again, I see that the older man has lit a small fire in an open hut and a little further on the ground, a larger one among stones. Then I hear simmering and the delicious smell of vegetables invades my nostrils. But I only start mouthwatering when I hear the chicken go into the pan. My stomach growls immediately, only now do I feel how famished I am. For a moment, I consider just stepping up to the people, they are obviously not cannibals and seem nice. But my instinct warns me against this, so I stay behind the tree.
Suddenly it occurred to me that the family would have lunch after cooking.
So nothing will be left for me. Before I decide what to do, I hear dogs barking. Instinctively I push myself closer to the tree, the dogs will surely smell me. And I get right, as soon as they reach the family, they freeze and turn in my direction. Then, a menacing growling burst out. My teeth chatter in fear as I see them sprint toward my hiding place. Five dogs with dangerously raised lips stare at me, barking as if their lives depended on it.
"Tiger, Snow, come here," the older man commands them.
But their fire-spitting eyes are fixed on me, none of them making any effort to obey the order. The white dog - that must be Snow - lunges at my legs, but I can keep it out of his reach just in time. And then I hear footsteps. I'm busted.

The older man appears before me first.
When he catches me huddled together, his eyes get big with shock. "Perpetua, Magda, quickly come look here. There is a strange woman on our property," he exclaims dismay. The older woman and the young man are in front of me in no time. "Please, don't kill me. I beg you. I mean no harm." Clasping my hands together, I anxiously beg for my life. The trio stares at me in surprise for several seconds. "Who are you and how did you get here?" the young man asks. I fix my gaze on him. "I don't know. When I opened my eyes I was on the beach over there. I don't know how I got there," I squeak softly. Again they stare at me.
"Did you come by boat? Then where is it?" he asks again, with his hands at his sides now. "I saw a boat next to me on the beach. But I'm not sure if I came by that. I don't remember anything, not even my name. Are you my family?" I ask shakily. The trio in front of me look at each other in surprise. "Certainly not," the young man replies, smirking. "You don't remember anything, you said? Not even your name?" I shake my head in denial. The woman looks at me from head to toe. "The past few days, there were storms at sea. Maybe she jumped off a boat or was dumped into the ocean. There was no report of a missing person or boat," the woman explains slowly as she looks at me piercingly.
They all look at me suspiciously.
"I don't know. My memory is gone. I only know that I woke up here on the beach," I confess. "Am I from this island? Do I live around here? My family must be worried," I say emphatically.
The older man grins. "If there is one thing for sure, it is that we have never seen you on this island before, I swear to that," he declares. "You must have washed up." ...
