The Oracle Speaks
At The Oracle
Four men stand in front of the Moon Goddess Oracle with their eyes firmly closed.
They have been standing there meditating for about an hour. A crucial moment in the Kingdom has arrived, and they ask Selene for guidance. The Oracle has told them to wait until the Moon Goddess has heard several parties. The ancient Lycans are also consulted; not long after, she will relay her mission to the Sages.
Yes, Elder Antony of Storm Forest has been added to the Sages of the Kingdom.
He carries the history of the new inhabitants to the Kingdom. History will determine the present but no one in the room dares to make a prediction. It is waiting for Selene's word. All four know that the circumstances in the Palace are explosive. The King having committed adultery with a warrior and Eric's rejection of his second chance mate and sudden mating with the Queen's sister have heated up tempers considerably. In addition, intelligence reported to the Sages that Eric had murdered his fated mate. The fear now enthralling the high rankings mind is how the Queen will handle all this when she discovers all this misdeed. Then again, there is a chance of a bloody revolution if these secrets reach the former Storm Forest wolves. Something must be done and quickly. Only Selene can bring salvation.
Meanwhile, Eric and Ralph are in the King's office. Ralph confesses to his Secretary his wrongdoing. Eric listens without interrupting him. He studies King's face but does not notice any regret or acceptance of the responsibility for his actions. He shifts the blame to King Jasper who mentally dealt him a severe blow that he could not control his actions. For the first time in his service to the King, Eric feels disgusted by the man. Acid creeps from his stomach to his mouth. He bats his eyes down to camouflage his contempt for Ralph. Only now does he understand why the Moon Goddess intervened just now in the heritage of the Crown. It's all about giving the throne to the rightful but mostly capable heir. Ralph is a coward, spineless and does not understand that his defeat began when he kept Saray in the dark about the father of her pups.
But he is not the one who will remind the King of all this.
He has his own concerns; he must save his skin in this downfall of the Royal family. Rachel has already approached Saray and although she was not convinced of the genuineness of the friendship offering, she was willing to repair their relationship. Rachel said that Saray was very surprised at her mating with him, especially since there was never any indication that the two were in a love relationship. In any case, his cards have proved to be well played and his position is now less dependent on Ralph on the throne.
"Ralph, what I want to know now is, how do you want to move forward in the Palace?" asks Eric slowly. "How do you want to proceed. Do you want to go on as if nothing happened, leave Saray in limbo and be in suspense all your life about the risk of her finding out?" Ralph laughs sarcastically. "Nope. My relationship with Saray can only recover and deepen when Jasper is out of the picture," he declares devilishly. Eric's breath stops in his chest, his eyes flying up to the King's face. A cruel suspicion comes to him, but he suppresses it. No, this can't be true. Surely Ralph wouldn't ...?
"Jasper must die. We already have the pups as successors. Jasper adds no value to the Palace and the Kingdom," Ralph ruthlessly declares. "He undermines my authority and my chance to have a family with the Queen. He is a barrier, a pest to me". With eyes big as saucers, his Secretary stares at him. And then all of a sudden, they hear a heavy eruption over the Kingdom, it is like thunder in a clear sky. Flashes of light illuminate the sky, threatening to split the earth in two. The inhabitants all scramble to seek protection in nearby buildings. No one understands what is going on.
'King Ralph, King Jasper, Queen Rain, Secretary Eric, the warriors Ivor and Cleo and Beta Jace. You are expected in the tabernacle of the Oracle. Immediately without delay,' sounds through the Kingdom's mind link, for all to hear. Ralph and Eric stare at each other in stupefaction; the voice in the mind link is familiar to no one.
"Eric," Ralph now whispers deadpan. "Who issued this order? No one is qualified to summon the King. Only Selene has that authority". Eric, too, sits stiffly in his chair in terror. "If it is Selene, I only hope something good lies ahead. But the voice sounded icy, I think we should prepare for the worst". Ivor comes running in. "Did you guys hear this?" he exclaims terrified. And then his eyes turn to Ralph. "Man, you messed up. I'm convinced this all has to do with your acting. Aaahhh, I just hope we don't all have to pay for your stupidity. Ralph, you are so busted!" he growls.
"Come on, why are you guys thinking the worst? Selene is known for her forgiveness. Let's go and be positive," he chides his men. They run out of the Palace and jump into the ready Maserati. At high speed, they reach the office of the Sages, where the tabernacle is located. When they step inside, it is pitch dark, but a row of lights shows them the way. And when they get into the divined space, they notice the Sages standing before the oval sphere that shines a sharp, white light.
A few seconds later, Saray and Jasper step inside.
As Saray looks around, she understands that something serious is going on. Jasper holds her by the hand and delegates her to stand next to the Sages. The older men acknowledge her presence and when everyone called is present, they pronounce the traditional mantras.
Large clouds of smoke rise, and when it clears up, Selene sits on a high golden throne, looking furiously down at the most potent Lycans before her....
