Rain Is Dead

I stand in the shower with my face up to not only make the water washes my face clean but massages it as well.
This fight with Kenrick and his mate has not only eased my mind but also calmed my senses. My mate's revenge is such a good feeling, I really should have intervened earlier. This couple stayed in my pack for too long, the punishment for insulting a Luna and then consistently at it, is a lifetime banishment. The fact that Kenrick held a high rank should have made him responsible enough to keep his mate in line and urge her to respect the Luna. So I need not feel guilty at all about the way I dismembered them before ripping their heads off. All this took place in front of the warriors, a lesson for those who think they should pull the same stunt as the dead Gamma.
The blood of the two washes from my body to the shower floor.
Bitterly I watch as it flows into the drainage like dirty bath water, worthless and obsolete. What the Gamma reaped, he sowed. Kenrick was not really a friend of mine like Jace, he obtained the position because of his father. He was the most experienced warrior, his skills were exceptional. And that made him overconfident, he thought with that he could beat an Alpha like me, a true blood at that. Well, he can't recount it, the bystanders will have to do that for him, generations after today.
'Alpha!' I suddenly hear Jace in the mind link.
The tone of his voice alarms me; Jace uses this one only in case of high emergency. Stiffened, I stand under the shower, my eyes closed. 'What's up? You don't sound well,' I answer him. For a moment, there is silence. 'Did you handle Kenrick and his mate?' he asks diplomatically. 'Sure thing. A little late, but the inducement was perfect,' I reply again. 'You're not asking me the obvious, are you? What's going on, Jace?' Again there is silence, I begin to grow impatient. 'A few more seconds and your head will follow if you don't tell me what's going on soon,' I growl, irritated now.
'Jasper, you'll behead me too if I tell you this. The informant called me. There is no good news, man,' he indicates cautiously. 'No good news? Ooohhh Moon Goddess, I can't have much anymore. I'm at the end of my rope, mentally exhausted. Only the hope of finding my mate keeps me going, I want to be here when she returns. 'Spill it, Jace. Don't waste my time,' I threaten him, still standing motionless in one place. 'It's Rain. Jasper, I'm so sorry,' he sounds distraught. 'She's dead!
My heart misses a beat.
It can't be! If my mate were dead, my wolf would definitely have felt it. Or was that why Jax insisted on finding her, did he know she was in danger? 'That can't be true, Jace. Jax would have sensed that. He's been ignoring me for several hours, but if Rain was dead, he would have already gone crazy. Rain can't be dead,' I declare sternly. 'I'm so sorry, Jasper. There was a terrible boat accident,' he tells me. "It's confirmed, she was with the CEO. They were on a brand-new yacht, sailing to wherever. A storm came up, but the boat couldn't handle it and was smashed into a thousand pieces. Everyone who was on the vessel is still missing. For three days now'.
'In my study in five,' I command him. 'Take Kenston with you'.
I turn off the faucet, am fortunately already washed clean. After drying myself off, is quickly put on a pair of jeans and a shirt. I comb my hair with my fingers as I leave my quarters. Arriving in my office, I see Jace and Kenston already standing there. Both of their eyes are red; they are emotionally broken. That means I definitely need to stay sober.
"Alpha, my daughter," Kenston stammers in despair. "How do I tell Ana this? She's already devastated by Rain's departure. Moon Goddess, why my daughter!" the man exclaims in grief. "What sin have I committed for this fate?" He threatens to lose his composure in distress, I rush to him and put an arm around his shoulder. "Father, I will not believe this until I see a corpse. My wolf knows nothing of my mate's death. To me, she is alive and well, we just have to find her yet". Jace shakes his head defeated. "Jasper, you didn't mark Rain. Your wolf has no connection to hers because it hasn't shown itself yet," Jace reminds me.
I swallow hard; of course he's right.
Jax could have only sensed something if we had marked Rain. Still, I need assurance, I refuse to merely take the word of some informant. "Get the Jet ready. We'll go on-site and witness everything with our own eyes," I command. "That one is already ready. We just need to board," my Beta tells me. Again I am impressed by his efficiency. Jace always thinks one step ahead. "Then let's go. We'll rent a speed boat in Miami to sail to the spot in the sea they were last seen," I lecture him.
The three of us leave the packhouse and get into a parked SUV.
With Jace at the wheel, we drive to the airstrip where the Jet is waiting with running engines. Quickly we got out and ran into the plane, the pilot welcomed us on board. Half an hour later we land on a private airstrip where Storm Forest is a shareholder. There another car awaits us to take us to the yacht club. As we park our vehicle, we see members of the Coast Guard standing there, they are talking to some other boat owners.
"Sir, please, can I have some information about the missing boat?" I ask the man I recognize as the supervisor. "I am the husband of the woman who was also on it." Surprised, he turns all the way to me. "Wasn't the woman than the fiancé of the boat's owner?" he asks plainly. "No. They were just friends. My wife works in his company. I only heard about the accident today while I've been looking for her for days," I inform him. "I was about to file a missing report but still wanted to do my own investigation first as to why she had suddenly disappeared."
The man nods uncomfortably, not quite sure how to address me.
"I'm sorry to tell you like this. But there is no easy way to do this," he voices softly. "None of the occupants of the yacht survived. We pulled the debris together, the storm destroyed the boat like firewood. I'm so sorry to bring you this sad news, but your wife is dead"...
