Need A Plan
King Ralph's POV
What was supposed to be the most amazing night of my life turned out to be a painful fiasco.
I can't believe Saray left me here alone and went after that Alpha. After all we shared, the love I showered her with. We were so close, I always respected her desire to postpone our actual mating. And now it has burst in my face.
Just the idea that Saray is now naked in Alpha Jasper's arms makes hot blood rise to my head. It's unbearable, this uncertainty is killing me. She hasn't even indicated when to be back. And to think that this Alpha is coming to live here in the Palace and will touch and kiss Rain right before my eyes! Man! The Moon Goddess has not been fair to me. My last straw of hope is Selene's promise to forge the mate bond between Rain and me. With the bond, Saray will not be able to avoid this pull that drives me to rage at this moment. If I hadn't agreed some weeks ago to let her go to Human Town to do some shopping, my life would look much happier now. I would be holding my Saray in my arms in bed, my tongue wandering over her body and tasting the nectar between her leg. She would squirm, beg for more, and moan in ecstasy like she's never felt before.
That fierce desire flares up again as I think about how I would be bending between her legs and nestling my shaft into her welcoming depths.
Everything I had dreamed of doing with her this night is now history.
Saray is still feeling the pull with the Alpha, I will have to wait until she is ready. She was right, we have to make reasonable arrangements in this strange relationship to make it work. I don't want her to jump from the Alpha's bed into mine. She has to be clean of the Alpha's scent, I don't want to smell him on her when she's lying next to me. Ooohhh goodness! I go crazy thinking back on everything that has happened in the last few hours. But the facts are incontrovertible, Saray is my mate and Queen, as much as she is the Luna of Storm Forest and Alpha Jasper. And Storm Forest will arrive here in a month and merge into the Kingdom. With their coronation, the Luna and Alpha titles will be converted into Queen en King.
I will remain the executive King, but Jasper's hot breath will constantly be on my neck.
He is the legitimate King; I am merely a substitute. Jasper can claim his position by revolutionizing the Kingdom as he will have the upper hand with the number of pack members. This makes me aware of how vulnerable my position became. I will have to rearrange my intelligence service and find out who is still loyal to me to keep an eye on Jasper. A wrong move on Jasper's part will allow me to intervene early.
I walk to the liquor cabinet.
As I look around, I can still see the new furnishings. A prominent interior designer has feminized all the rooms in my apartment and added Saray's favorite colors. It was meant to be a surprise for her. Of course she will see it later, but the moment will differ. Sigh, why cry over spilled milk? What is done is done, it is what it is and I have to make the best of the situation.
I throw back a big swig of my best whiskey.
'Ivor, Eric, in my apartment,' I order my confidants. 'In two,' Eric responds instantly. As they walk into my sitting room, I see them looking around admiringly. When their gazes turn to me, I read pity. "Sorry Ralph, that wasn't the mating you imagined," Eric sighs as he takes a seat on the couch across from me. Ivor continues to stand as befits a warrior, always on alert. "That mating thing sucks. Look at Ivor now too, even if those mates are teenagers, they only give you a headache. Therefore, no fated mate for me. They distract you, control you and make you their puppet".
Pained, Ivor and I stare at the insensitive man in front of us.
Eric is cold-blooded and calculating, typical traits for his bloodline. My father told me once about my Secretary's ancestors. They have more often saved the Kingdom from revolutions, brought rebellious werewolf packs to their knees and did more bloody business. My ancestors never had to get their hands dirty despite being the strongest Lycans in existence. Eric's grandfathers always stood in the line of fire, allowing mine to maintain their prominent image. But Eric's genes also have this tough attitude toward their mates. They just feel a significantly reduced mate bond. Only the pull works on them to allow them to reproduce, but the craving to make their mate happy and spoil them is hardly there.
"Eric, isn't it time to look out for a mate? The Princes are already on their way. Or did you want to be the last Secretary, do you foresee a shift in that too?" I ask him, suppressing the urge to return his mental blow. Then I notice a change in his aura. Also, Ivor's eyes start to shine belligerently as he grins at the man. "Yes Eric. Tell us, we really want to know. When will we see your mate and the first pup-Secretary arrive? Do you think you will be able to deliver both?" he jeers.
I am startled by Ivor's attitude, never before have I heard him talk to Eric like that.
I also notice an undertone of scorn, these two have something they can foist on each other. But I don't want to waste too much time on it, later I'll surely ask them in more detail about this thing between them.
"Gentlemen, we need to be alert. Over a thousand new wolves will arrive in the Kingdom and eventually partially transform into Lycans. We must be aware of rebellions before they endanger us. We need a plan," I begin to notify them. ...
