More Mates
Still Secretary Eric's POV
I listen to the chit-chat of the women sitting across from me in the Limousine. King-Mother Alidya points out to Saray the long list of necessities they need to buy in Human Town. I already warned Ralph in the mind link that he should send a cargo plane to pick up all the items these women plan to buy. If King-Mother Alidya is on a roll, no one will be able to stop her. And Saray is already letting the older woman overwhelm her, nodding at every suggestion her mother-in-law makes.
I smile as I look at the pregnant woman.
Her belly is growing by the day. It seems as if the twins want to make their presence emphatically known now that they have been discovered. Actually, I also look forward to their arrival; the palace will finally be vibrant. The hallways are quiet now, and the dining room seems like a daily church service. Now we will have two rascals who will turn our lives upside down. And if that cousin of mine does get by now, we'll have another set of pups next year. I make it my mission to drive him to action. If Saray also gives birth to his pups, his chances of surviving this upcoming disaster will increase. Neither the Sages nor the Council will dare to execute the father of underage pups.
As the Limousine stops, I jump out and help Saray get out.
We'll continue by Royal Jet, Ralph not wanting to make his pregnant mate make the weary journey by car. The Jet is comfortable, she can stretch her legs and rest her back. Once we are in the air, the women delve back into their conversation about the pups, leaving Ivor and me to our own devices. I shake my head amused; I think this will be the typical scene over the next four months until the Princes are born. An hour and a half later, we land on the private airstrip and another Limousine awaits us. But now two women step out and run toward Saray. So that must be Magda and Elena. Ralph has warned us that they are humans and Alpha Esis has not yet informed them of our kind. So we must restrain ourselves.
I turn to Ivor to remind him of Ralph's order.
But the man stares at the underage girl, Elena. His eyes turn red. Quickly I walked over to him. "Ivor, what's about you, man? Remember, they are all humans and we have to hold back," I tell him quickly. "MATE!" I hear him whisper upset. I stare at the fool, who is still looking at the girl. "Man, that's a kid. How can she be your mate?" I ask him angrily. "Eric, that girl is my mate. I don't decide that. And she is too young, yes, I know," he bites to me. "Goodness! Why a minor? I need an adult mate and here the Moon Goddess sends me a child to take care of," he sighs, distraught. "A human, at it. Now I have to wait years before I can have her with me".
I look at the girl now hanging around Saray's neck.
She is clearly fond of the Queen, asking her all sorts of questions. "In two weeks, the school vacations will be over, Saray. I'll come to stay with you then. You promised," I hear her say. Unable to contain my laughter, I slap Ivor on the shoulder several times. "There you go, man. Get the playground ready. And some cartoons for evening TV," I roar with laughter. Ivor can't see the humor in it, knocks me off and walks with wide strides toward the next car. "Ivor!" I call after him, still laughing. "Your place is in the Limousine where the women are. You are not a security guard but a warrior, man". He doesn't even look back at me, totally ignores my words and gets into the waiting Rolls Royce Sport.
I shake my head wistfully and get in with the four women.
When we have all taken our seats, the car pulls up. We are staying in Alpha Esis's residence. The women's attention is all on Saray so Alpha Esis has invited us to stay at his private villa. Ralph wasn't too keen on that idea but when Esis confided in him that he had to get back to his pack and our presence would distract his mate, he relented. This Alpha will have to act fast, he will have to come clean with his mate otherwise, things will get completely out of hand. Also in the car, it is all about the Princes' arrival.
I also take the time to observe the girl Ivor said is his mate.
She's constantly peeking outside the window, probably searching for Ivor. Humans and especially minors, do not experience the mate bond equally. They just feel a strong attraction and cannot stay away from us. Male werewolves are also well-built and striking, which human women in particular, fall hard for. Minor werewolves can be the mate of an adult werewolf, especially if the male first comes of age. But they are not allowed to have a love affair until both are eighteen. In most cases, they stay friends, the male informs the parents and spends as much time as possible with his mate. This creates a close bond that makes mating on the woman's eighteenth birthday easier.
Again I have to laugh as I watch the child.
Ivor is always such a tough guy, confident and strict. Now that he has an underage mate, he feels quite embarrassed. But he knows he can't fight the mate bond. As a Lycan, his urge to mark his mate is strong, but he will have to control himself. Also, he will no longer be able to bed other women; his Lycan will force him to be faithful. Poor fellow. He is a hot-blooded man, I know he secretly wooed many women. But he was always determined to wait for his mate to officially accept a woman beside him.
All these intrigues in the palace! First Ralph, now Ivor.
It certainly won't be boring between the royal walls in the near future. Grinning, I contemplate that I will be the one on the stand, watching everything unfold before me....
