A True Queen

Still Alpha Esis

Rain steps into the sitting room on Ralph's arm.
Her beauty is once again striking; this woman is clearly Queen material. Ralph has made a great choice in her, although I worry about this relationship. My friend is a Lycan and the Moon Goddess sporadically awards Lycans a fated mate. But it is very possible that Ralph may have a mate somewhere who could suddenly appear on the scene. And then I fear the worst will happen, the Kingdom will have to decide in this triangle relationship, for they only accept one Queen. Although Lycans are very animalistic, their solution is often not very humane. Two centuries ago, such a fact had already occurred. One of Ralph's ancestors was smitten with a breathtaking she-wolf, took her as his chosen mate and installed her as the Queen. When the destined mate signed up, total chaos ensued in the Kingdom. The royals had beheaded the Queen in broad daylight, just some men had shifted into their fierce Lycan and ripped off her head.
Thus the way was clear for the fated mate to take her place beside the King.
But then came a drastic turn. The fated mate rejected the King due to the gruesome end of her rival. The horrific demonstration of power has cost the Lycans dearly. Even before the royals could act, the woman committed suicide. It's a history Ralph also knows, we went to the same University and had classes in the Kingdom on royal heritage. At the time, I was already his best friend. Ralph had insisted that I also come to the Kingdom to take the classes as a non-royal. He argued that I could serve as his advisor in case of need. And everything in me warns me that the time to assume my role as advisor is closer than I think.
"Esis. You frown dubiously, is something wrong with your mate?" my friend asks as he approaches me with two glasses of whiskey. Rain follows him and stands by his side. I take a drink from his hand and sip it as I stare at Rain. There is something about this woman that puts my senses on caution. From the first time I met her at the club, I could sense that there was something more to her. She's a werewolf, sure, but she seems mated. There is a strong male scent around her that only an Alpha is able to detect with sharpened instincts. Ralph could too, but there's a possibility that his jealous Lycan is ignoring this cue and is forcing his own scent on her. And I feel the wolf in her too, but it doesn't seem to be a typical one. But exactly there, my instincts limit me, her true nature only an Elder of several hundred years could decipher.
Rain becomes uncomfortable under my staring.
"Rain, I need your help. My wolf Ink is driving me crazy, he wants our mate close," I tell her. "I want to build our relationship slowly, but I want her closer to me. Magda told me you have an appointment with her mother to get Elena so she can study in the big city?" I ask. Rain nods. "Yes, but I don't know much about myself. First, I need to know how I'm doing financially. Ralph said I have houses in Human Town, I'd have to find out if they are adequate to accommodate a whole family. And even then, I must find a buddy to show them around. I can't house them there and then leave them all by themselves," she explains to me.
I grin fondly. This is the solution I've been dreaming of.
"Listen, they have me now. I'm part of that family now. Please, transfer your promise to me," I beg her. "I have enough properties to accommodate them and businesses where the father and brother can work. Her mother can then stay home to take care of Elena and I will have Magda for myself". Ralph and his mate burst into laughter simultaneously.
"Well, for the first time, I have seen a man eager to take on the burdens of his in-laws. Most would run away hard," Ralph now teases me, while Rain grins. Somewhat more seriously, he continues. "You know the rules of Were laws, Esis. You can only inform her of our species as long as the mate bond works on her in full force. When she is attached to you and the signs are clear," he dutifully reminds me. I nod and turn to Rain again. "I have a villa close to a school complex. It's no problem at all. All you have to do now is notify them that you will send for them. I'll take care of everything else," I insist.
"Hey, my friend. Can I have my mate with me for a while, too? We just came out of a predicament situation. I want her in the Kingdom first, and when she's settled, she can get involved with other people again," Ralph enters. I am startled by this, the period he is talking about could take up to six months. That is way too long for me, I need Magda with me, preferably tomorrow. Ink won't hold out; we will go mad. "No, I want to settle this before we get to your family. When I'm in the Kingdom, I must be totally free to concentrate on family matters. I really have to fulfill my promise to the family now since Esis' offer is for the best," Rain now indicates and turns back to me. "I do want every assurance from you that they will be okay. I will go with you to see the living circumstances. Only then can I rest assured".

Full of pride, I stare at the woman in front of me.
Her response graces a true Queen. She subordinates her personal interests to the needs of her subjects. "I owe you, my Queen. Cash it in as soon as you need it. You have in Magda and I an eternal ally," I swear. "Give the sign when you need us and you will be amazed at what I'm capable of doing for you." ...
