Chapter 17
On the way, I told Duster everything that had happened since I woke up from the coma, including the fact that I was a vampire and had even bitten someone.
He's my best friend, and I don't want to cheat on him.
"Duster, are you going to cut me off for this?" I looked at him nervously.
Duster is carrying me through the jungle.
Hearing my question, he slowed down and turned his head to look at me.
"No, that must not be what you wanted to do, those damned vampires forced you."
Fortunately, Duster didn't get sick of me and came to comfort me instead.
He looked at me sadly, almost crying, "My poor Cheryl, it's not your fault, I will help you find the truth and then avenge your death."
In this moment, I felt more aggravated than I had ever felt before and almost cried out with him. He might really like me, but I could only think of him as a friend.
The gravitational pull between love and friendship is not the same.
Thinking of Andrew, I couldn't help but correct myself, "But there are actually good vampires."
Duster suddenly stopped and asked me seriously, "Who are you talking about? The little guy who died for you? Or the prince who tried to force you to marry him and then suck you dry?"
I froze for a moment, looked down and thought hard, and returned, "Actually ...... they're all pretty good."
Yeah, so did Burris. He saved my life a few times. If it wasn't for my power to save his sister, he wouldn't have been so obsessed with keeping me locked up.
Duster looked at me angrily, "Cheryl, you must have been tricked by them. Vampires are insidious and cunning, not as good as you think."
"But ......"
I looked at him sadly and asked, "Duster, do you think I've gone bad now that I'm a vampire too? Will you kill me if I stay like this in the future, or even suck human blood?"
Duster looked at me with pained eyes that contained a tangle and struggle.
It made me feel apologetic that I shouldn't have asked him that.
"Sorry, let's talk about something else." I said, changing the subject stiffly.
Duster sighed in relief and carried on with me on his back.
To break the silence, I asked Duster, "Did you go to Cecil? Was she the one who told you I was dead?"
"Yes." Duster replied briefly.
"Let's go to Cecil first, then." I suggested.
"Good." Duster's tone was dull.
Duster was no slower than a vampire. We ran non-stop through the jungle all night and finally made it to the next town before dawn.
Because I'm afraid of the sun, we had to stop for the night at this place called Ritard.
This is an area that belongs to humans, though the presence of other races cannot be avoided, but the Fae cannot be found by the congregation, the same commandment that the Burris family avoids.
We are now going to find a hotel and wait until it gets dark before we leave.
The streets seemed cold and depressed in the early hours of the morning, and there was no one on the road.
We were walking down the street when Duster suddenly moved closer to me and whispered low in my ear, "Cheryl, I feel like someone is following us, like a vampire, is it that friend of yours?"
Duster doesn't know yet that Vicky has the ability to eavesdrop.
I smiled and explained to Duster, "Vicky isn't my friend, she just wanted me to leave the man she loves and had to send me away from the manor."
When I finished, not waiting for Duster's response, I turned to the back and called out, "Vicky, come out here, I thought you were gone."
I saw a dark shadow flash before me and Vicky teleported to me.
She frowned at Duster, looked at me and said, "Since you have an escort, you don't need me to send you, tell me where the letter is."
"You can keep protecting me too, after all, I'm still offended by werewolves now." I teased.
"That's you causing trouble, tell me where the letter is. I don't have time for you, and I hate being around werewolves, they never bathe." Vicky said in disgust.
I couldn't help but let out a chuckle and looked over at Duster. he acted calm and just frowned.
To outsiders, he seems a bit high strung, but I guess he doesn't bother to explain.
"You're not right, Duster bathes every day, he's a clean loving wolf pup." I righted Duster.
Duster gave me a look, raised the corners of his mouth, and rubbed his head a little sheepishly.
"I don't want to know that, Chris, tell me where the letter is!" Vicky furrowed her brow anxiously.
"Well, I'll tell you ......" I looked at her and paused.
"Come on!" She urged me.
"There's no such thing as that letter, I lied to you, to keep me safe." I said with a smile.
"What?" Vicky didn't seem to respond.
I stifled a laugh and turned my head to Duster, "Let's go, it's almost dawn."
"Good." Duster gave Vicky a guarded look and turned to follow me out.
"Chris, don't you dare lie to me! I'm going to kill you!" Vicky's angry voice came from behind her.
Without waiting for me to turn around, Duster had already slammed Vicky, who was trying to get close to me, against the wall and was still ready to move on.
"Don't go over there, Duster, let her go." I pulled him back.
Duster looked at me suspiciously, his eyes fierce and cold, "She wants to kill you, can't stay."
"She helped me after all, let her go Duster," I said with a slight frown.
Duster retreats to my side but doesn't take his eyes back yet.Vicky looks at me too and I read her thoughts as she debates attacking or leaving.
I looked at her and said coldly, "If you're going to keep hurting me, I'll attack you with Duster. If you want to live to see Burris, get the hell out of here."
"Just wait, Chris, sooner or later I'll kill you." Vicky glared at us with a grim look on her face, dropped her harsh words and disappeared into the dark blue sky.
"Aren't you afraid she'll go back and tell their prince?"
Duster's eyes looked worriedly in the direction she had left. I knew they werewolves didn't let their prey go once they found it, but I wasn't like a werewolf after all.
I laughed and shook my head, saying, "Vicky won't let Burris get to me."
At this moment, I wasn't sure if I wanted Vicky to go to Burris or not.
