Chapter 56

My rank was now Duke, and because of the mysterious power within my body, I had also gained the ability to float.
On the way to Rotali County, I was faster than Duster. So it only took us one night to reach Amanda's place.
Duster said he'd been here before, but he didn't know Amanda.
I stood in front of Amanda's door and knocked first, but there wasn't a sound behind the door.
Was Amanda not home?
I wasn't willing to just give up, and after some hesitation, Duster and I tumbled in through the window.
The living room was surprisingly dark as well, and I felt a little odd that there was no one in sight.
We were about to look elsewhere when a little point of glowing green light suddenly appeared in the darkness. The point of light slowly floated up to me, it circled around me and drifted off to another spot.
"Hey Duster, come with me!"
I shouted all over Duster and followed the glowing green point of light towards the darkness. I was sure it was Amanda's guide to me, and it would lead me to her.
Sure enough, with the glowing green point of light guiding me, I reached Amanda's basement and the point of light disappeared here.
"Amanda, are you here? It's Cheryl," I called out into the air.
"There's no one here at all, just a broken broom, isn't there?" Duster said with a frown, surveying his surroundings.
"Hey, you rude bastard, where is this broom broken?"
Amanda's voice suddenly rang out, but she was nowhere to be seen.
What was even weirder was that the broom moved and moved to Duster's feet, fighting to strike his calf.
It couldn't do a bit of damage to Duster, it was practically tickling him, but Duster kicked the broom away anyway.
"Oh, Duster, you're being rude." I crouched down beside the broom and asked worriedly, "Was that you, Amanda?"
"No, thankfully it wasn't me." Amanda's voice sounded in my ear.
I turned my head in surprise to see the outline of Amanda's diminutive body gradually change from transparent to solid.
"Oh Amanda, it's so good to see you, what kind of magic is this?" I asked curiously as I stepped forward and embraced her.
"It's invisibility magic, this is my magic wand." Amanda said.
She picked the broom up while pouting and glaring at Duster, "Its not a broken broom."
The broom turned into a long, slender iron rod in her hands.
I laughed awkwardly and introduced myself to Duster, "She's Amanda, the very powerful witch. duster, you should apologize for being rude earlier."
Amanda raised her little head proudly and looked at Duster as if she was waiting for his apology.
I was a little nervous.Duster was a rough man and not at all concerned with manners. I wasn't sure he would meekly apologize.
"Well, I'm sorry I was rude earlier, your magic is awesome." Duster said, and offered to praise Amanda.
"That's okay, thanks for the compliment Mr. Werewolf." Amanda immediately cheered up, her eyes shining brighter from the compliment.
I breathed a sigh of relief and eagerly explained the reason for my visit, "Amanda, Burris has been captured by Dennis, can you get one of your clan to come with us to rescue him?"
But when I finished, Amanda's eyelids immediately drooped.
She shook her head and frowned her brown brow at me, "I'm sorry Cheryl, I can't help you either. dennis warned the witches clan, he told them to stay out of the way or they would attack the witches clan."
"Now they won't even help me and are planning to capture me to please Dennis, which is why I had to hide." Amanda said through clenched teeth.
"How sad, it seems your people are as cowardly as my people." Duster said to Amanda.
Amanda hung her head sadly and looked dejected.
Although I felt a little lost, I went up to Amanda and hugged her comfortingly, "It's okay Amanda, we'll think of something else."
"No, Cheryl, it's too late." Amanda suddenly choked out as she leaned over my shoulder.
"What does that mean?" I let go of Amanda and frowned at her, asking, "Why is it too late?"
Amanda's eyes quickly turned red and she huffed, "I saw Burris get hurt badly with the magic ball and he was dying from Dennis."
Amanda held out the magic orb, and the rounded sphere revealed Burris' figure, and I immediately lunged for it.
I almost didn't recognize Burris, he looked like he'd been dipped in a pool of blood and seemed to be bleeding all over.
Burris was hanging in the doorway of a castle, his short, beautiful blonde hair losing its luster as blood stains clung wetly to his scalp. His eyes were tightly closed and his pale face was covered in deep, long cuts ......
The vampire wasn't breathing, and Burris was hanging with his hands above his head without even the slightest struggle, as if he'd been turned into a dead body.
I stared in horror as a sharp, suffocating pain coursed through my heart and rolling tears continued to slide from my eyes.
Even though I knew Dennis wouldn't spare Burris, I felt my heart ache to the point of death when I saw the scene with my own eyes.
"I'm going to save him ...... I'm going to save Burris ......" I said to them as I cried out in pain.
"Cheryl, I understand how you feel, but we simply can't stand up to Dennis.Burris is without the power of his heritage and the elders have betrayed him. Dennis, on the other hand, has enough henchmen and their family has created many descendants." Amanda broke down the current bad situation for me.
I wiped the tears from my face and said with a firm gaze, "I can't leave Burris alone, I can trade myself for Burris, doesn't Dennis want the power in my body?"
As soon as the words left my mouth, Duster immediately objected sternly, "No! Cheryl, I won't allow you to do that, you're just going to get yourself killed!"
"Mr. Wolfman is right, you can't be impulsive, and Burris wouldn't want you to trade for him." Amanda chimed in, her eyes looking at me worriedly.
"But it's the only way to go now, I've made up my mind, don't you guys stop me." I insisted.
"Cheryl, do you have to admit defeat before you even fight? We can try it together first, how do you know we can't beat that monster Dennis?" Duster persuaded.
"But I don't want you guys to get hurt because of me, if we fail, we won't have a chance to escape again." I worried.
"Maybe we can come up with a better idea, like having Cheryl go ahead and switch Burris back and we'll get Cheryl back together.Dennis just wants Cheryl's powers and shouldn't hurt her for now." Amanda's brown eyes flicked back and forth in Duster's and my direction as she sought our input.
"Is this any different than the previous plan?" Duster grimaced.
"Of course, I agree with Amanda's plan. This will ensure that Burris gets rescued and you guys have a chance to come back for me." I said to Duster.
Duster looked at me with a grim look on his face, obviously still not agreeing with the decision.
"Cheryl, all you see is Burris. you say I'm your best friend, but you don't care about your friend's feelings." Duster accused me with resentment.
"Come on Duster. if it was you that got caught, i would have done the same. burris lost the power of his heritage because of me, and suffered the betrayal of the elders because of me, otherwise he wouldn't have been defeated by Dennis."
"And, even without those reasons, I would have gone to his rescue. Because I love him, I couldn't bear for him to be tortured."
I explained patiently to Duster, hoping he would understand the difficult situation I was in.
"Well, whatever, as long as you don't regret it." Duster turned his head away from me, his tone sounding full of concern, but I saw the corners of his eyes redden.
"Duster, you'll understand me later, when you have a lover too." I said to Duster.
Things were settled, and with Amanda and Duster in tow, I door towards Dennis's old castle.
If Dennis agreed to my quid pro quo, Amanda would take Burris back to Rotali County and Duster would keep watch over me near the Campbell family.
Only, I didn't know if Dennis would be willing to trade with me, and if he used strong-arm tactics to get me, I wouldn't necessarily escape.
It was a gamble.
