Chapter 39

Burris didn't show any objections and I couldn't help but gently scratch at his head again. burris's hair felt soft and fluffy to the touch, I wondered if all vampires had such good hair.
"I'll have a cat sent over tomorrow." Burris said with a smile, raising his chin slightly at me.
I froze for a moment at that answer, my heart beating a little faster.
Why would Burris be so nice about his food? I thought I must be overthinking it.
To confirm my suspicions, I deliberately put on a light-hearted face and joked, "Prince-sama, aren't you worried that you'll end up draining my blood if you're so nice to me?"
"It must be a sad thing to fall in love with your own food." I said.
Worried that Burris wouldn't be able to understand what I meant, I added in a more direct expression.
Burris's smile faded and I was prepared for the question that would surely ruin the now harmonious and beautiful atmosphere.
Perhaps Burris would suddenly remember that I was only his food, and would then feel chagrin at the indulgence he had just given me.
Or maybe Burris will get annoyed and immediately pounce on me and bite me.
But Burris shouldn't be able to drain my blood just yet, since I'm still just an Earl right now. My blood rank has to reach Duke before the power hidden in my blood will awaken.
By then Burris will definitely bite my neck hard and turn me into a dried corpse.
However, these were all hypotheticals as I nervously awaited Burris's answer.
In fact, although the smile was gone from Burris' face, he didn't look angry; his eyes were still a beautiful golden color and his expression was serious and earnest.
He stepped away from me and moved gently to help me up as well, then he sat down beside me like he had something important to say to me.
"What is it, Burris?" i couldn't help but ask.
I had an unlikely idea in mind, so the more silent Burris became, the more nervous I became.
"Cheryl, there's something I wanted to tell you the other day when I saved Cecil's life. But I was so happy that I missed the opportunity, and then I wanted to tell you when I got married."
"But I didn't think that because I didn't tell you about it, it would leave you in a constant state of worry and fear. I also didn't think that you were really willing to give your life to me and I'm so sorry for making you worry."
I froze and looked at Burris' serious expression, "What does that mean?Burris, I'm a little confused about the situation right now."
"Also, what is it that you're talking about?" I asked Burris again, looking a little eager.
"I think I'm in love with you, Cheryl," Burris said.
My eyes widened in surprise, and although I had guessed the reason for this, it still felt incredible to hear Burris say it himself now.
Not waiting for me to react, Burris continued, "Cheryl, I want to marry you, I want to protect you, I want to be around you all the time."
"I can't hurt you anymore and have long given up on the idea of gaining power from you. I loathe that way of gaining power, and how could I hurt the people I love in that way?"
Burris's voice was low and gentle, like a bouncy string wrapped around my heart, each syllable clinging to my heart as it fluttered together.
"Burris, are you not kidding?" I still couldn't believe it.
I'm afraid to even look into his magic eyes; I'm afraid it's all a charade he's using to confuse me. When I took it all seriously, that would be a real trap to fall into.
Burris frowned and looked at me sadly, "What makes you think I'm lying?"
"I just think it's kind of amazing that you can really fall in love with your food? It's amazing." It was all I could do to hide my panic with a lighthearted tone.
"I never thought of you as my food, if it wasn't for Diana I wouldn't have let the elders arrange my marriage." Burris said seriously.
Burris's words suddenly calmed me down and I looked at him and asked, "So what now Burris, are you going to abandon Diana?"
"I don't know, I haven't come up with a solution to this problem yet, and the Prince isn't all powerful." Burris smiled helplessly.
His smile was a little bitter, but the look he gave me remained firm, "But I will never hurt you again, nor will I abandon Diana. there is always a better way to solve this problem."
That seemed to be something I had said once. Back then I didn't want to suck human blood, or the blood of my own kind. But Burris said those were the only two ways for a low-level vampire to become stronger.
That's what I'd told him firmly at the time, that there was always a better way to solve the problem.
"What about you, Cheryl," Burris asked suddenly.
"What?" I looked at him blankly.
"Did you only marry me because I saved Cecil? Or because you love me too?" Burris's eyes were expectant.
I understood what I should say to make Burris happy, but I didn't want to lie to Burris, I wasn't sure I loved him, but I really did think of him as a friend.
"I don't know, Burris. i'm not sure if this is touching or heartfelt and probably can't give you the answer you want for now." I said with a frown.
I watched in person as the anticipation in Burris' eyes turned to loss, and I felt hard inside.
Maybe I liked Burris too, but that liking wasn't enough to make me brave again
Tyrone had hurt me so much that I had firmly believed he loved me deeply until I knew he had cheated on me.
Love is something that can be disguised and something that can be hidden.
"It's okay, Cheryl, even if it is, I won't let go of you. One day you'll love me, and I'll be as brave as you are." Burris smiled softly at me again, his eyes still determined.
I was a little dumbfounded looking at Burris's smile, brave like me? But I wasn't brave anymore.
Burris was about to say something else when the bell housed in Cecil's room suddenly rang.
Burris and I looked at each other and immediately teleported to Cecil's room.
The room was heavily marked by a fight, and most of the things were destroyed.
At the moment, Cecil was being held up in mid-air by Vicki by the neck.
"Vicki, let go of my brother!" I yelled at Vicki, while running towards her with my sharp claws extended.
Vicki gave me a disdainful look, the corners of her mouth curling up slightly.
I had no idea what she was doing to Cecil, who was struggling even more in her hands.
Vicki only had one hand to use on me, but she didn't even use it. She just gave me one look with her red eyes and I couldn't move at all.
I was so anxious that I forgot Burris had come with me.
My body stiffened for only a second before I regained control of it.
Then Vicki's brow furrowed and her grip on Cecil's hand suddenly released.Cecil was dropped to the floor, covering his neck and coughing violently.
"Ahhh, Chris you bitch!" Vicki screamed miserably.
Fearing that Vicki would suddenly attack us again, I still reached out with a sharp claw on her shoulder before I went to check Cecil's injuries.
"Cecil, how do you feel?" I picked up Cecil worriedly.
"Sis, my neck hurts ...... it seems like I got scratched by this monster." Cecil said in pain.
"Don't worry Cheryl, let me treat Cecil." Burris walked towards us.
Cecil resisted this and yelled at Burris, "Get out of my way! You monster, you're all in it together!"
"Listen, Cecil, let Burris heal you." I held Cecil down hard.
Burris took the opportunity to cover Cecil's wounds with his hands, and after a soft white glow disappeared, all of Cecil's wounds were completely healed.
However, Burris's face looked haggard.
