Chapter 29
It's Burris. Burris is here.
I stayed frozen looking at the back of his head until the sound of pain spilled from Tyrone's throat again. Only then did the mixed feelings in my heart finally settle down.
It was through Burris's shoulder that I saw he was holding Tyrone's neck in one hand, his pale five fingers closing in.
Oddly enough, Tyrone didn't put up any resistance, just like I had just done.
Catching my eye, Tyrone glanced at me as well.
Then a bizarre scene occurred.
Tyrone's eyes surprisingly turned blood red as he looked at me and slowly curled his lips.
Before I could marvel at Tyrone's becoming vampire-like pupils, I suddenly realized with alarm that my body was moving uncontrollably.
With great speed, I took the knife Tyrone was still holding and turned around and aimed the blade at Burris' heart.
God! What am I doing!
I tried to control myself, but I simply couldn't, and the tip of the knife swung towards Burris anyway.
Burris had to shake off Tyrone first, and he ducked to the side, but I still got stuck in the side of his waist.
Tyrone lumbered up off the ground and took the opportunity to get out of the way. I saw with my afterimage that he was using a transient ability that only vampires have.
For a moment, it was like an incredible truth dawned on me.
Burris, still trying to go after Tyrone despite the wound on his lower back, took a few steps and then stopped abruptly, turning his head to look at me.
"Damn it!" Burris cursed, wrinkling his brow and walking towards me again.
After Tyrone left, I finally gained control of my body.
Unable to think about anything else, I immediately greeted towards Burris and explained anxiously, "I'm sorry, I ...... didn't mean to, my body was out of control just now, I'm sorry, I really ...... "
My speech system was on the verge of disorder and my voice even took on a crying tone.
I was desperate to tell Burris that Tyrone and I were not in cahoots.
"It's okay." Burris interrupted me gently, "I know you're under Tyrone's control."
I frowned and looked at him blankly, "What do you mean, why does Tyrone have control over me? And why are his eyes red? And he just used teleportation ......"
Well, the answer was right in front of me, I just didn't dare to confirm it.
I swallowed hard and looked at Burris and asked, "Tyrone's a vampire too, isn't he?"
Burris didn't answer me right away, he looked at me intently and asked me a question back, "Tyrone is the love of your life right?"
I looked at him with wide eyes and subconsciously asked, "How do you know?"
It happened to be the question that answered Burris' question, and I bowed my head in chagrin at once.
"So now still do you still love him? He almost killed you." Burris wouldn't leave me alone yet.
I didn't dare look at him, almost dying at the hands of my lover was not an honorable thing to do and all I could do was lower my gaze and shake my head.
Then I thought I heard the Prince's lord's restrained laughter. I looked up at him incredulously, only to see Burris curl his mouth and wrinkle his brow in seriousness.
He nodded and said, "Yes, I'm not going to lie to you, although he was once your lover, he really is a vampire now. I think he may have been bitten by Diana, but he's so cunning I never noticed it before."
I froze for a moment before responding that Burris was replying to my earlier question.
"When?" My voice became a little dry, "I mean ...... when did Tyrone get bitten by Diana?"
"It was about a year ago." Burris said.
It's almost ironic that the boss of Hunter Camp turned into a vampire a year ago.
"By the way, there's another piece of bad news for you." Burris continued.
"Is there any worse news than an ex-boyfriend being a vampire?" I couldn't help but say to myself.
Burris shrugged his eyebrows before saying, "Your current body, aka Chris, is a descendant of Tyrone's creation. So your current body would be under Tyrone's control, and he's probably trying to kill you because he's afraid you'll reveal who he is."
"The Campbells and Tyrone still have unseen dealings that I didn't understand before, but now that I know he's turned into a vampire I do." Burris said immediately after. He seemed eager to lay out all of Tyrone's flaws in front of me.
The sheer volume of information overwhelmed me, and all I could do was stare blankly at Burris. beyond that, I didn't know how to react.
As the leader of the hunter camp, Tyrone turned into a vampire a year ago, but commands the hunters to hunt vampires while making deals with them.
"What kind of deal is it?" I asked mechanically.
It felt like picking at an already festering wound, digging out all the bad rotten flesh and blood scabs before the wound could slowly heal.
"The hunters supply the Campbells with blood slaves, who are converted into lower bloods by the Campbells, who Tyrone then orders to hunt and kill, and then get a commission from the inhabitants." Burris said in a stating tone.
Maybe it was all this news piling up, and suddenly I didn't feel much stimulated.
Or maybe it's because finally knowing Tyrone's character, it's no surprise in learning that he would do these things.
After a while, I was still drowning in the sadness of my crumbling faith when Burris suddenly lifted his hand as if to touch my face.
I subconsciously ducked and he took my wrist, explaining helplessly, "I know a bit of healing magic to help you with your wounds."
I froze for a moment, suddenly exclaiming, "You seem to be good at everything."
"Of course, because I'm the Prince." Burris said in a brisk tone.
I gave him a quick sweep and noticed that the corners of his lips were slightly curled.
Burris lifted his hand close to me again, and this time I didn't duck. The palm of his hand was a millimeter from my injured cheek, but not quite against it.
Then a soft white light emerged from his hand. I felt the wound slowly healing, not hurting, and comforting, like a plush, warm spring breeze across my cheek.
Looking into Burris's jewel-like eyes, suddenly, I reach out and take his hand that's resting on the side of my cheek.
"What's wrong, Cheryl, does it hurt?" Burris frowned at me.
I shook my head and took Burris' hand and placed it on his waist, frowning as well, "Burris, you're still bleeding from your wound too."
Burris looked at it and was surprised, "Oh, what's going on here?"
Apparently, our mighty Lord Prince did not expect his wounds to heal meekly this time.
"Tyrone put something on the dagger." I explained.
"Oh, so that's it, he really is a scumbag." Burris quickly accepted the reasoning.
I looked at him without saying anything and Burris gave me another look, supposedly at the bruises on my face.
Burris's eyes were so focused that I looked away from him uncomfortably.
Only then did he look down and put his hand on his wound to heal it.
The twilight woods suddenly fell silent and I glanced up.
The moon had lightened and it was getting light again.
"By the way, I got the medicine." Burris suddenly looked up and said.
Then he fished a small brass bottle out of his pocket and handed it to me.
"Cheryl, does this look familiar to you?"
I glanced at it, wrinkled my brow in serious recollection, and shook my head, "I've never seen a bottle like that, and the person who gave it to me wouldn't have given it to me to drink directly."
"You can taste it, the Bloods will be fine drinking it." Burris suggested.
"Good." I agreed.
For some reason, I'm pretty sure Burris wouldn't hurt me.
Just as Burris finished, I took the small bottle he was holding and tilted my head to take a small sip.
The sweet and sour taste spread across my tongue and it did have a familiar feel to it that I couldn't recall for a while.
Probably seeing my distress, Burris reassured me, "It's okay, Cheryl, as long as you remember the smell, it will come back to you sooner or later."
"Hmm." I nod lost in thought and ask Burris, "How do you know where I am?"
Burris smiled mysteriously and said, "It's a secret, but I'll always be able to find you, that's what the Prince is for."
"Okay." I smiled at him helplessly, a little weary.
"How did you meet Tyrone?" asked Burris, looking at me and grumbling, "I told you a long time ago that Tyrone is a bad guy and Diana is in a constant coma because of him."
Yes, Burris told me that a long time ago. Last time I even pissed Burris off by speaking for Tyrone, and this time I didn't argue back.
About this hidden relationship, how sweet I once thought it was and how disappointed I am now.
I didn't want to discuss this further with Burris because I remembered something more important.
"Oh God, I forgot something really important, I need to get to Katelyn right away," I slapped my head in chagrin.
"Who's that?" Burris looked at me in disbelief, "Why did you go after her."
"Cecil is poisoned because of this woman and I'm going to get her antidote." I explained briefly.
After saying that, I quickly ran back.
"Wait, I'll go with you."
Burris followed, and hearing his voice suddenly made me feel especially relieved.
