Chapter 35.
Burris placed a kiss on my lips before moving over in the direction of the witch.
It was a brief kiss, and the touch hadn't even reached my nerve centers before Burris was gone.
He hadn't greeted me at all, which made me a little passive, but it wasn't a feeling that talked about anger.
The skin that had been touched was still warming up, and I had to rub the small area harder to keep my eyes on the magical array again.
Burris also took a sip from the cup at Amanda's request, though he had to swallow all the liquid.
The liquid must have tasted bad, and I saw Burris wrinkle his nose the whole time, looking disgusted with the liquid.
It looked like Cecil had been forced to take his medicine when he was a kid, but I always had a sweet candy ready for Cecil whenever he was good enough to take it.
I looked around and, disappointingly, there didn't seem to be any candy here.
But ......
Amanda's mouth kept chanting a mantra that I couldn't understand. At first the speech was at a normal pace, and later on Amanda's speech became faster and faster.
As the speed of Amanda's speech changed, Burris's fingers gripping his wand tightened, his frown deepened, and his forehead actually broke out into fine beads of sweat.
And Cecil's body began to jerk violently.
I couldn't help but walk over to Amanda and ask her what was going on. But when I did, I saw that Amanda's little face, hidden under her hood, was white as paper and her lips were spilling blood.
I took a step back, not daring to move Amanda again, even as I gathered my breath.
They were both in pain and there was nothing I could do to help, and it made my heart burn.
"Phew ...... phew ......"
Finally, with Burris' ragged gasps, both his eyes and Amanda's opened and Amanda collapsed weakly to the floor.
I immediately stepped forward and took Amanda in my arms, looking at her worriedly, "Amanda, how do you feel? Is there anything I can do to help you?"
Amanda shook her head with her eyes closed and whispered, "It's okay Cheryl, just put me on the floor, I just don't have the strength, go check on Burris, he must be having a harder time than I am."
Hearing Amanda say that, I glanced at Burris. But he kept his head down and I couldn't see his expression.
"Amanda, are you sure you're okay?" I confirmed to Amanda.
When I saw Amanda waving her hand again, I put her back on the carpet and walked over towards Burris.
"Burris, how are you?"
I walk over to Burris and crouch down, gently placing a hand on his shoulder.
There's a sudden weight on his shoulder and Burris collapses on top of me, his arm wrapped around my waist. His weak voice rang in my ear, "Cheryl, I'm having a bit of a hard time, can I hold you?"
"Sure, where are you having a hard time?" I put my hands on Burris' back as well so he could find a comfortable position on top of me.
Burris still had sweat on his forehead and his lips were uncharacteristically white, and he kept his eyes closed as he leaned into me, his thick, curly eyelashes resting on his eyelids and trembling softly.
"It's hard all over, the inherited power and Burris's body have fused together, so this process is more painful than stripping the soul." Amanda's body should be easing up as she answers me for Burris.
"I'm sorry Burris didn't tell me that it would be so hard for you guys." I said with a frown.
Amanda sighed and reassured me, "It's okay, it's all in the past, Cecil shouldn't be awake until tomorrow, I'll take him upstairs to rest while you stay with Burris for a little while longer, he can't move around yet."
"Okay, hard work, Amanda," I said sincerely.
Amanda had probably really just run out of steam earlier and was fully recovered by this point.
I was worried that she wouldn't be able to carry Cecil up the stairs and tried to go help her. As a result, before I could say anything, Amanda was already carrying Cecil and flying.
Noticing my movement, Burris' hand on my waist used a little strength.
Finally, he opened his eyes, but they were bloodshot.
He frowned at me and pleaded, "Cheryl, stay with me, okay?"
I froze for a moment; it was uncomfortable to be such a vulnerable Prince.
Burris was in this state for me and Cecil, after all, so I replied to him as gently as I could, "Yes, Burris, I'll stay here with you until you ease the pain."
"Well, thank you, Cheryl," Burris responded and closed his eyes again.
Burris seemed to fall asleep, and my body went a little stiff, completely afraid to move.
But, after a moment, Burris frowned again and a faint moan escaped her throat.
I frowned along with him and put my hand on his back up and down to soothe him, but he still looked like he was in pain.
In my anxiety, I remembered trying to find candy for Burris earlier.
I might not be able to find candy for a while, but I think I can impersonate it.
--Burris's very own 'candy'.
"Burris, want some candy?" I called out to him softly.
"Hmm? Cheryl, what did you say?" Burris pushed up his droopy eyelids hard to look at me.
I moved closer to his face and reached up to rip the lace-textured Choker off my neck, exposing it completely to Burris.
"Bite me, Burris," I invited him.
Burris' eyes never revert to gold, which happens in one of two states, either he's angry or he's hungry.
Apparently, Burris was now the second, and I expected Burris to be eager to bite my neck, but I closed my eyes and waited for a moment, and all I got was a cold touch on my neck.
I opened my eyes to look at Burris, his bloodshot eyes suppressed with intense desire, and he just ran his hand delicately over my neck.
"What's wrong, Burris? That should make you feel better." I said.
Burris' throat rolled a little, his voice a little dry, "I'm afraid I won't be able to control it now."
"It won't, I'll tell you if I'm having a hard time, you can definitely stop." I moved closer to him again.
No vampire can resist the lure of blood, especially when food is offered to his mouth, and this time Burris finally resisted the temptation and bit into my neck.
The moment the sharp teeth pierced my skin still hurt, but after a moment I couldn't feel the pain at all.
The last time Burris had sucked my blood was back at the manor, and the last time I had let Burris bite of my own accord.
Just like last time, Burris was gentle and didn't make me feel any discomfort. I even felt a pleasure I hadn't felt in a long time, a tingling sensation of blood running through the inner walls of my veins, like a subtle electric current running through them.
Burris hadn't drawn blood in perhaps too long, and he stayed by my neck long enough for me to feel no discomfort except a gradual bit of vertigo.
I thought I could hold on a little longer and didn't stop Burris, until I felt my whole body lose strength and my head collapsed limply on Burris' head before he jerked his fangs away.
Before I lost consciousness, I saw Burris's pupils finally return to a beautiful golden color, those beautiful golden eyes filled with remorse and worry.
