Chapter 40.

"Lord Prince, how is it that you allow hunters on your estate?" Vicki covered the wound on her shoulder and looked at Burris with a slightly sultry look in her eyes.
"Vicki, this is not your business, even your father is in no position to control me anymore now." Burris said coldly.
"I'm just concerned for you, you just saw the way this man was rude to you." Vicki was still reluctant.
Burris frowned and said impatiently, "Just mind your own business, Cecil is my invited guest and if anyone is rude to him again, I will not take it lightly."
Without waiting for Vicki to say anything else, Burris waved his hand at Vicki and ordered, "Vicki, go back and heal."
Burris's face did look bad, and Vicki didn't dare say anything more, just gave Cecil and I an indignant glare and left the room.
After Vicki left, Burris looked to me and apologized, "I'm sorry, Cheryl. vicki is Elder Hampton's daughter, and a friend I grew up with. Please forgive her this once, and if there is a next time, I will kill her for you."
I froze for a moment, he remembered the promise he had made to me.
"It's okay, she probably just likes you too much." I shook my head and frowned at him, "Burris are you not feeling well somewhere? You don't look too good."
Burris raised a lowered eyebrow and smiled, "I'm fine, I'll have the servants change Cecil's room, you stay with Cecil for a while longer, I'll be back."
With that, Burris quickly left the place.
I was a little surprised, if what Burris said before was true, how was he comfortable leaving me with Cecil now, and he didn't look like he was fine.
The servant soon came and took Cecil and I to another room, Cecil kept his head down the whole way while I was still thinking about the look on Burris' face when he left in a hurry earlier.
We sat in the new room in silence for a while.
"Sis, if you're really worried about that man, go check on him." Cecil said suddenly.
"Hmm?" I looked at Cecil blankly, "Who are you talking about?"
"Aren't you thinking about Burris? You're all lost in thought." Cecil asked me back, his tone a little sarcastic.
"Oh yes, I'm so glad you've finally learned to address people politely." I said.
Cecil and I had our bad moments, but whether it was a fight or a taunt, he was the one who lost.
Sure enough, Cecil deflated at my words and fell back on the bed, wrapping the covers around his face.
Then, his muffled voice came out from under the covers, "Go away, I need to be alone for a while."
"There's a bell to ring here too, right above your bed," I reminded Cecil, and left the room.
I rubbed my cheeks with my hands as I exited the door, even though I had just looked unconcerned, I was actually having strange emotions because of Cecil's comment.
Did I just look that obvious?
But I really wanted to go check on Burris again, he really didn't look too good when he left, and I couldn't be as ungrateful as Cecil.
With that thought, I took another quick step towards Burris's room.
I was about to knock on the door, but before my fingers could fall, I suddenly realized that Burris had left the door open.
Perhaps because of Burris' confession, I had a daring thought.
Without knocking, I pushed the hidden door open straight away. But when I pushed the door open and saw the sight in front of me, I immediately covered my mouth to avoid making a sound out of surprise.
Burris was standing on the balcony with his back to the door, he wasn't wearing any clothes and was standing with his arms outstretched in the moonlight, seemingly absorbing the moon's energy.
This was the first time I had ever watched a vampire absorb the moon, and Burris was covered in a soft white light and had a very beautiful figure.
But I didn't have to admire it for long, because I saw a Rose-marked wound on Burris's broad, solid back, and it was still bleeding.
How could it still be bleeding when it had been inflicted by Cecil earlier and Amanda had obviously healed him?
I didn't have time to think anymore because Cecil found me.
"Cheryl? what are you doing here?"
Burris retracted his arm, the light already gone from his body, and walked towards me.
"I was a little worried about you, so I thought I'd stop by." I looked at Burris unapologetically, still a bit out of shock.
Maybe it was because I was so direct in my vision, or maybe it was something else.
Burris came halfway around the bed abruptly, torn between facing me or having his back to me. He finally chose to turn his back to me, somewhat eagerly putting clothes on his body.
When Burris was facing me earlier, I could clearly see that he had a few scratches on his neck that were practically identical to the scratches on Cecil's neck earlier.
I thought I was mistaken and thought I'd take a closer look when Burris came over. instead Burris didn't come over and I had to walk over towards him.
"What's wrong with your back Burris, why isn't it healed?" I came over to Burris and touched up his gruesome wound, my brow furrowed.
"Oh! Cheryl!" said Burris, jumping suddenly, obviously startled by me.
I withdrew my hand somewhat breathlessly, realizing with hindsight that the act wasn't very polite.
"Sorry Burris, I'm just a little confused as to why your wound hasn't healed yet." I said, staring at him.
Burris sighed and took the shirt in his hand, laughing helplessly, "Cheryl, I thought you would scream first when you saw a man naked, I didn't think you would keep staring at me."
I raised a lower eyebrow and laughed at the thought of what had happened before, teasing, "Looks like the Prince is shy, haven't you seen mine too? And helped me through my clothes."
I said, suddenly pulling the dress from his hand, "How about I help you put it on once too?"
"Stop it, Cheryl, give me the dress." Burris was still smiling tenderly at me.
I don't know when Burris seemed to be getting more patient with me, and I was getting bolder.
I hid my clothes behind my back and negotiated a deal with Burris with a slight lift of my chin, "Burris, tell me why your wounds aren't healing yet and I'll give you my clothes."
"Cheryl, I'm going to have to resort to robbery." Burris said with a helpless smile.
As soon as his words were out of my mouth, I ran and Burris immediately caught up with me.
I tumbled out of Burris's room and ran wildly through the night with my clothes. burris probably played along with me on purpose and never really caught me.
It was like I was suddenly transported back to when I was a kid, when I used to take Cecil and play games with the other kids.
I can't remember what game I played, but this feeling of running wildly through the wilderness with nervousness is still very clear.
Eventually I was caught by Burris as I was running to the rose garden.
Burris grabbed me into his arms and held me in place with his strong arms, but he didn't take his shirt away and just held me tight like that.
Neither of us spoke, and my breath was still a little unsteady.
Burris looked down at me tenderly and intently, and now I could be sure, a look like that was deep love.
I lifted my eyes to meet his, "Burris, tell me what's going on here, okay?"
As I said that, my arms went around Burris' waist as well.
Burris also had tight muscles on the side of his waist that were extremely supple and sexy to the touch.
"Well, if your hands will settle down a bit." Burris said, the smile on his lips widening a bit.
"Sure, go ahead, what's going on?" I resisted the urge to rub at Burris's muscles, fixing my hands on the side of his waist.
"Maybe it has something to do with the inherited power, losing it has reduced my ability to heal myself." Burris' tone sounded a little uncertain as well.
"Why do you have a wound on your neck too?" I wrinkled my nose and touched the wound on his neck.
Burris frowned slightly and pursed his lips before saying, "It also seems to be related to the power of inheritance, if I use healing magic, the wound transfers to myself."
I looked at him in surprise, "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"
"I wasn't really sure, I didn't know until I tried it today." Burris explained, reassuring me again, "It's okay Cheryl, it's all a minor injury."
He put a firm hug around me, but I still couldn't let it go. Without me knowing it, Burris was hurt again because of me.
"Burris, I'm going to marry you." I said, hugging him harder too.
I don't want to get into whether this is touching or heartfelt, I'm pretty sure I'll never find anyone better than Burris for me.
