Chapter 22

"I swear I'm telling the truth, and if I dare lie to you, let me go to hell!" Gordon said in a trembling voice.
"What exactly is going on? Tell me clearly." I prodded with a frown.
"Katelyn only told us to ambush Cheryl at the church, she said Cheryl must not be able to beat us. But when Cheryl stepped into the church, before we could attack, her body changed." Gordon recalled with narrowed eyes.
He continued, "We witnessed Cheryl's eyes turn blood red, fangs sprout from her mouth, and her fingernails grow and blacken, eventually turning into a vampire!"
"Things took a turn for the worse, we were trying to leave the church but Cheryl was still blocking the door. We had to choose to attack her, not realizing that Cheryl, who had turned into a vampire, was simply overwhelmed. All of our bullets hit her and soon she fell to the ground and lost her breath."
Gordon was caught up in the memory and couldn't help but look smug as the corners of his mouth lifted when he spoke of my inability to resist.
Bang! With a soft thud, I settled for Gordon's life.
The afterglow could see Duster and Cecil's shocked eyes.
"I don't think he's lying, but there's nothing left to ask." I said coldly.
"Cheryl, you did the right thing, it was just a little sudden and I was thinking of ways to torture him." Duster said with a smile.
His skin was dark, but his teeth were white and he looked a little silly when he grinned.
"Sis, are you okay?" Cecil looked at me worriedly.
"Sure, it's nothing, God must have given me rebirth to get my revenge. Next, I'll kill everyone who shot at me, including Katelyn," I said as I looked at Gordon's body.
Before we moved, I asked Cecil to show me the place where I was buried. It was the cemetery Cecil had secured for me, and Tyrone had originally planned to burn me and scatter me into the sea because I was a vampire.
I felt sad even though I knew Tyrone had to do this as the hunter leader. how could Tyrone be so cruel to me when he was not only the hunter leader but also the love of my life?
Coming to my gravestone, I asked Duster and Cecil to wait for me outside, I wanted to be alone for a while.
I stood in front of my own headstone, sadness filling my heart. Why did I become a vampire, why did I die so unaccountably? Why did Tyrone have to be so cruel to me?
I was like an older woman who had suffered through life and was filled with resentment against the world and even God.
"Cheryl, calm down, everything will be found out."
A sudden hug from behind around my waist and Burris' soft, low voice ringing in my ears.
"When did you get here?!"
Startled, I immediately broke away from his embrace and took a step back, frowning at him.
A look of loss crossed his eyes and his golden eyes overflowed with tenderness as he said, "I've been following you since I sent Vicky away, including when you were interrogating Gordon. I couldn't resist coming out to comfort you when I finally waited until you were alone and saw that you were upset."
I froze for a moment, then looked at him with a smile and teased, "You're the Prince of the Blood, and you're too useless to be afraid of werewolves and hunters finding out."
Burris frowned unhappily, but the color of his eyes hadn't changed and he didn't look angry at my unreasonable words, or maybe he was used to it.
He shook his head gently and explained, "It's not fear, I don't want to see them, but you'd be upset if I killed them."
I seemed to choke as I looked at him with wide eyes and said, "Hey, don't be so cocky, Duster is also the leader of the werewolves, you can't necessarily beat him."
"Yeah? Could try." Burris said with a slight lift of his chin and indifferent eyes.
Damn, why do I find this kind of cute for a Prince?
I was a little worried that he might actually go out and get Duster in a fight and hastily changed the subject, "Also, you just said what sounded like lovey-dovey words to a lover, don't say it like that or I'll think you're in love with me."
"It's not nice to fall in love with your food." I added as I looked at him.
His expression looked a bit struggling, and the way he frowned looked a bit distressed.
He hesitated for a long time and eventually changed the subject instead of responding to it, following my example.
"Didn't your body turn to ashes?" Burris asked suddenly.
The conversation jumped so much that I didn't respond for a moment, frowning in confusion.
"I just heard you guys say that Tyrone burned your body and buried it here." Burris explained.
"Oh yeah, because I'm a vampire and he burned me to ashes." I replied sadly, sounding a little downcast.
"No, I mean, that unlucky guy named Gordon said you turned into a vampire. But after they killed you, your body didn't turn to ashes, right?" Burris struggled to explain.
I could probably see what he was getting at.
Yes, in the past, when I killed those vampires, they all immediately turned into ashes, the lower the rank the worse the smell, but all in a state of ashes, like the flesh was broken down into molecules in an instant.
But ......
"Do all vampires turn to ashes when they die?" I asked Burris, looking at him expectantly.
If that's true, it means I haven't turned into a vampire!
Burris, however, said, "Not really."
"Humans who are killed before they've fully turned into vampires don't turn to ash, but that's rare, the transformation only takes an instant, and there's no way your teeth and eyes and nails have changed according to Gordon's description that you haven't fully transformed."
"There are also high ranking Bloods, like me, like the Elders of the Duke rank, and Vicky of the Marquis rank, who don't turn to ashes when they die. But apparently ......"
He paused for a moment and looked at me, then his eyes turned elsewhere and continued, "Apparently you're not high enough in rank to get killed by them easily."
I'm not happy about it, I hate being made to feel weak.
"Lord Prince has certainly lived longer and seen more than I have, except it's all nonsense." I couldn't help but be mean and sarcastic.
It's not such a pleasant feeling to have expectations fall away.
Burris frowned, displeased, "Cheryl, you're always so impulsive, I haven't finished my sentence."
"If it's still some bullshit, Lord Prince doesn't have to say anything." I said looking at him.
Maybe because I escaped from the manor, I'm not afraid of him anymore.
Burris grunted lightly and continued, "There's another reason why you haven't turned into a vampire at all."
That's what I want to hear, but on what basis?
"But if that's the case, why are those changes happening to my body?" I wondered.
"Have you heard of Rotali County?" Burris asked me.
"Seems a little familiar." I thought for a moment and said, "What's going on there?"
Burris's figure suddenly blurs for a split second, and when I look at him again, he's holding an extra handful of daisies, the same as the last time I was at Andrew's headstone.
Only this time, instead of giving me the flowers, he took them himself and walked over to the headstone belonging to Cheryl and placed them in a reverent manner.
I couldn't help but laugh at him and ask, "Hey, you could have just given me the flowers. And what happened to Rotali County when you finished what you just said?"
"I'm just saying goodbye to your past." Burris said, "When I'm done helping you with this, you'll have to come back to the manor with me to get married."
Burris seems more obsessed than I am.
I shrugged my eyebrows and answered him, "Yeah, I'll think about looking into it."
What will happen in the future, who knows?
"Rotali County is a black market." Burris finally started where he left off before, explaining for me, "It's full of merchants and buyers alike, probably from every race and every country, and the merchandise is complicated, especially the drugs, which have almost everything in them."
"Is the medicine that makes people immortal also available?" I couldn't resist asking.
I was completely caught up in the black market he was talking about, forgetting what he had originally said the place was for.
"Of course, we're just immortal, this isn't hard." Burris said, suddenly leaning closer to me and whispering, "Also, there's a drug in there that makes vampires disguise themselves as humans."
