Chapter 23
"What?" I was very shocked and frowned, "Isn't it dangerous for humans to have a drug like that?"
"Dangerous indeed, but the Bloods rarely use this method to harm humans, the only reason humans aren't extinct yet is because we don't want to consume food too quickly, then we'll starve to death sooner or later too." Burris said with a smile.
That sounded arrogant, but it wasn't without merit. Aside from the hindrance of natural enemies, the Bloods wouldn't let humans exterminate their race in order to survive in the long run. And Hunters existed to allow humans to live with more freedom and dignity.
That's why I adore Tyrone, he's the great hope for humanity.
"Cheryl, are you thinking of another man?" Burris suddenly leaned very close to me and raised his hand and cupped my cheek.
"No, I'm not." I was forced to tilt my head at him and say, "Burris, if you waste any more time, Duster and the others are going to come in."
"Like I said, I'm not afraid of them, and you better not be thinking about other men in front of me." Burris said coldly, shaking me off hard before continuing, "There's another drug on the black market that corresponds to this potency that can turn humans into vampires for a short period of time."
"You mean ...... I was actually poisoned? Not really turned into a vampire?" I said in a daze, looking over at Burris in surprise.
"Not always, some of the properties that belong to the drug you match and some don't. It could also be that the merchant has made improvements, you won't know until you buy the drug back." Burris said scrupulously.
"Like what characteristics?" I asked.
"With that drug, humans lose that memory of becoming a vampire, a drug property you fit. But Gordon said you lost the ability to fight back, and that one doesn't quite fit." Burris replied.
"Thank you, Burris, I'm going to County Rotali now to get my medication." I said excitedly, and was about to leave.
"Wait a minute." Burris pulled me back, "With your current abilities and status, you can't go in there yet."
I frowned, and out of nowhere I saw a sly look flash across Burris's face, blinking away again.
"I can get it for you, be back soon." Burris said with a smile.
I instantly understood what he meant and inquired, "You have some conditions, don't you? If it's for me to marry you, I might have to reconsider."
"No, I just need you to give me a kiss, preferably in front of that werewolf." Burris smiled more pleasantly.
I had a bit of a headache with this request and had to discuss it with Burris, "Duster is just my friend, this is rude, where are your proper manners Prince?"
"Isn't he the love of your life?" Burris looked at me in surprise.
"No he's not, who told you that Vicky?"
I was also surprised that he thought Duster was the love of my life.
"I may have misunderstood." Burris frowned, "And who is your lover, the human next to Duster?"
"Oh! Don't talk nonsense, that's my brother." I covered my forehead helplessly.
"But they all seem to like you, I can't believe you have a lover I've never met, Cheryl you're so philandering." Burris accused me seriously.
"That's not my fault, maybe you've seen the guy." I said in a confused state of mind.
"Who is it?" Burris asked after him.
I remember Burris talking about his feud with Tyrone, which I couldn't tell him about just yet, lest he threaten Tyrone with me.
"I guess I'll think of something else, maybe Duster knows about this place too." I was ready to turn my head and leave.
"Wait, I'm kidding with you, forget it if you don't want to talk about it." Burris pulled me back again.
I looked at him helplessly, waiting for his next words, because I knew it had to be more than that.
"Still give me a kiss then, can't you Cheryl," Burris said, looking at me seriously.
His eyes were like flowing golden sands that looked both warm and beautiful. It was hard to imagine that these were the eyes of a vampire.
"Okay." I said.
When I finished, I took the initiative and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his slightly thin lips.
"Cheryl, what are you doing!"
A sudden shriek exploded from not far away.
I panicked and immediately withdrew my body, but fell into Burris' arms because of my unsteady weight, and he took the opportunity to wrap his arms around my waist.
Damn! Still they saw it.
I gave Burris a hard stare, but he laughed more pleasantly and looked provocatively at Duster.
Duster was just at the entrance to the cemetery and is now running towards us. Halfway there he's even transformed into his wolf form, apparently trying to attack Burris.
"Hey! Hey! Hey Duster, you calm down." I looked at him nervously and turned to Burris, "Get out of here."
"I told you, I'm not afraid of him." Burris' eyes flashed and he was ready to fight.
I had to threaten him, "If you don't leave again, I'll never marry you back at the manor."
Burris frowned at me.
Duster had cut past me and I tried to turn around to stop them.
But when I turned my head, Burris had left the spot and disappeared, and only a little of Duster could be seen.
He's simply too fast. I can't even see him transient, Duster may see more, but obviously can't catch up.
"Sis, what were you doing?" Cecil questioned as he came to me.
His face didn't look too good either.
I felt a sudden pang of irritation and scratched my hair hard, "Kissing! I'm kissing him! Didn't you all see that? Damn it! Why are you guys always bugging me about this stuff?"
Cecil looked at me in silence, his frown tightening. Suddenly, he wrapped his arms around me.
He said, "Sister Cheryl, I really hope nothing has changed. But if you're only going to be a vampire from now on, suck my blood when you're hungry and don't go near anyone else."
I felt a rush of warmth inside, followed by a huge pang of guilt. I shouldn't have been so mean to Cecil, he was just scared of losing me.
I apologized to him and said, "I'm sorry, Cecil, I didn't have control of my emotions earlier."
"It's okay." Cecil said faintly.
After a while Duster did come back alone, he was uninjured but still looked angry.
"Cheryl, how can you kiss a vampire?" Duster looked at me in disbelief.
"Calm down Duster. you have to understand, I'm a vampire now too." I said wearily, "He's going to find medicine for me, and I just want to thank him."
I told them the same information that Burris had told me earlier.
Duster finally calmed down, but still looked at me with a sad face.
"What's wrong with you Duster," I asked him.
"I may have to go away for a while." Duster said.
I froze for a moment and frowned, "Why? Just because I kissed Burris?"
"No, it's not because of that." Duster said, "I feel Collier coming after me soon, and he's got other wolves with him, which is bad for you, I need to draw them away."
"I'm going with you, because helping me is what got you chased by them. I can't leave you to deal with them alone." I said firmly.
"Don't worry, the werewolves can't hurt the Alpha Wolf. The most they can do is lock me up, provided they can catch me. I'll come back for you when I get rid of them." Duster reassured me.
"Really? You swore to the moon goddess that you would never meet your mate if you cheated on me." I said seriously.
"Okay, I swear that I will not cheat on Cheryl or I will never meet my mate." Duster read the oath cooperatively and made the gesture of swearing.
I was reassured by this and gave him a pat on the shoulder, "Be careful Duster, you're the only friend I have."
"As a friend, can I have a parting kiss?" Duster said with a smile, looking at me expectantly.
