Chapter 59
I should have expected that Dennis wouldn't agree to my terms so easily, but even with that thought I couldn't resist, and I looked at Burris with sad eyes.
"Have you figured out what you're going to do Cheryl," Dennis said as he reverted to his immodest accent.
The wound on his face was healing and scabbing fast, soon to be nothing more than a dried blood stain.
Dennis must have known what was going on in my head, that my desperate and sad look would amuse him.
As if to confirm my suspicions, as I thought this, Dennis burst out laughing again.
"You disgusting bastard, don't keep spying on my thoughts, nasty devil!" I cursed angrily at him.
Dennis looked at me grimly, narrowed his smile, and said, "Cheryl, do you really think you're in a position to make a deal with me? I could totally kill Burris and you wouldn't get away with it, I'm just taking pity on you right now."
Of course I wasn't going to believe this bullshit from Dennis, he was just trying to make Burris as desperate as I was to keep him alive.
"Well, it's time for you to let the witch take him away or I might change my mind." Dennis said coldly.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down.
No matter what, I should make sure Burris was safe first.
"Okay, I'll go give him to Amanda," I said to Dennis, half dragging Burris with me as I prepared to leave.
Instead, Dennis stepped forward and stopped me, smiling at me, "Cheryl, you're my fiancée now, you can't be the one to do something like that."
The next moment, the butler snatched Burris from my hands.
"How do I know you're not going to give Burris to Amanda?" i rushed forward and took the butler's arm, looking at them warily.
"If I really wanted to kill Burris, he'd be dead by now, do you have the power to resist?" Dennis sneered.
I gritted my teeth hard, still not letting go, and insisted, "I'm going to follow them until Amanda takes Burris out of the city gates."
"Well, then let's show you your old lover again." Dennis scoffed.
Burris was placed in a wheelchair and pushed out the door by the butler. I followed Burris, keeping my eyes on his quiet face.
Surprised Dennis didn't follow, I couldn't help but glance at the butler, maybe this human was more powerful than I thought.
"Miss Cheryl, I can't beat you." The butler said suddenly, eyes still glued to the front.
I was startled and withdrew my gaze somewhat sheepishly, but the butler continued, "The entire town is under the control of the Lord Prince, and none of you can escape as long as you're still in here."
He sounded like one of God's most loyal followers.
"You seem to take pride in your status as a slave to the vampires." I gave him a sarcastic look.
"Of course, the Lord Prince can give me eternal life." The butler replied.
I produced an almost frenzied look on his numbed face.
"But you're still human, and if he wanted to turn you into a vampire, he would have done so already. How stupid of you to take his words seriously!" I said meanly.
"Aren't humans allowed to suck blood?" The butler suddenly turned his head to look at me, his black eyes looking extraordinarily gloomy.
I felt a sudden chill at being stared at by him like that.
Oh my god, was it what I thought?
This human was using blood as food, in the vain hope of turning himself into a vampire this way?
Thinking that, I seemed to actually smell something strange from him, couldn't tell if it was a scent or a stench, but it was unpleasant.
"I'll push it." I tried to snatch Burris out of the butler's hands.
But he was so incredibly strong that I couldn't break his grip.
"It is not polite for you to do so, remember that." The butler said coldly, swatting my hand away.
The temperature of his hand was even colder than mine.
Luckily it wasn't far and soon we were at the castle gates. amanda was still waiting outside, but there were already several piles of fishy ashes at her feet.
It didn't look like it was safe around the Prince's castle either, or maybe these vampires were arranged by Dennis.
"Oh, you're finally out, Cheryl!" exclaimed Amanda, coming over to her.
But when she saw Burris in the wheelchair, her brown eyes went wide and she covered her mouth in horror.
"Oh my God, what's wrong with Burris? Is he still alive?"
"It's the darn Dennis, he turned Burris into this." I glared hard at the butler as if he was Dennis.
"But Dennis said he's alive, do you have any way to save him Amanda," I frowned at Amanda.
Amanda's little face turned very serious as she said uncertainly, "Maybe the Book of the Dead hidden in the Aysa Desert has a way to save Burris."
"You mean the book that could save Diana? But isn't that Mopso's and their trick?" I wondered.
"What they said wasn't all false, the Book of the Dead does have a lot of magical magic in it." Amanda explained.
I was about to say something more when the butler suddenly urged me, "Miss Cheryl, it's time for you to follow me back. prince Dennis has something else to discuss with you."
"Cheryl, do you really have to go back?" Amanda looked at me nervously.
She glanced in the direction of the butler, and the magic wand hidden in her sleeve robe glowed a faint green light as she hinted that I could escape together while I had the chance.
I gave Burris a hesitant look.
If we didn't escape, this move might anger Dennis and put both Amanda and Burris in danger.
"Yes, Dennis will drain my blood at the wedding. If you save Burris, remember to tell him that I'll always love him." I said pretending to be sad as I held Amanda's wrist.
Amanda frowned at me, seeming a little confused as the green light on her magic wand grew brighter.
"Come on, just take Burris away, make sure you save him." I let go of Amanda and shook my head at her, handing her the wheelchair.
"Okay Cheryl. you must protect yourself, we will come to your rescue." Amanda said reluctantly as the green light from the magic wand finally disappeared.
The butler's icy gaze roamed over my body and I didn't dare say anything more than to purse my lips and nod.
It wasn't until Amanda disappeared with Burris in tow that I turned to follow the butler into the shadowy castle once more.
Admittedly, I suddenly felt a little lost when they were all out of my sight.
How I wished I could have left with Burris! But instead I had to step into this hellhole again and have to go around that disgusting monster.
Sure enough, Dennis, the disgusting guy, was waiting for me in the lobby, and he laughed even more when he saw me being forced to come back.
I wanted to go up and punch him in the face, there was always a contemptuous attitude to his grin.
"Hey, don't look at me like that, it tickles my libido." Dennis said with a hooked mouth, his narrow eyes narrowed into a dark line.
"Fuck, you're disgusting!" I screwed up my eyebrows at him.
Burris left, and I finally didn't have to hide my disgust for him anymore.
"Cheryl, don't say that, you have a wedding to perform with my disgusting ass." Dennis raises his eyebrows provocatively.
"No, you still have a request you haven't promised me." I said looking at him.
I should stall as long as I could before Burris came to my rescue, and I could settle some personal vendettas in the process.
"Of course, my dear fiancée, I'm ready for you." Dennis smiled, looking behind me.
