Chapter 58.

"That's right, I can read your mind too. So my lovely Miss Chris, don't try to offend me again or you'll be the only one who gets hurt." Dennis stated the suspicion in my mind.
He really did possess the same ability as I. I didn't dare to think any further, but could only stare at him warily.
Dennis bent down and picked up the dagger I had dropped from the ground, slapping the sharp blade against his palm.
Soon, the blade made several black cuts on his palm, and bright red blood slithered down his palm. But Dennis acted as if he was unconscious, not caring in the least about the wounds on his hands.
He frowned slightly at the dagger in his hand, and his tone sounded surprisingly regretful, "You can't even hold on to a dagger, Chris, what else can you use to make a deal with me?"
I was sure that he was just teasing me. He had known my intentions from the beginning, yet he had been playing along just to see how mortified I was now.
I had just thought of that when Dennis burst out laughing and said, "That's so cute, Chris, you're sly as a fox."
"There's nothing wrong with your plan, you just don't know your opponent yet." He continued.
"Dennis, what the hell do you want?" I jerked to my feet and transiently moved to the wall, watching him warily.
"Don't be nervous, I won't hurt you for now. I can agree to your terms as long as you behave." Dennis said as he looked at me.
"What do you expect me to do, Prince Dennis." I looked at him coldly.
"Hampton said that Burris will drain your blood at the wedding to gain power, and I think that's a good idea. I haven't had a wedding in all the time I've lived, what do you think about us having one too?" Dennis said looking at me expectantly.
I couldn't help but sneer and looked at him mockingly, "Prince Dennis, are you proposing? If so, you should kneel in front of me."
Dennis grimaced, not seemingly offended by my words. He raised an eyebrow and gave the butler a wink.
The butler seemed to take some sort of order, nodded to Dennis, and headed for the stairway.
I couldn't help but look over in some confusion and noticed a chain hanging down from the roof at the stairway.
The butler gripped the chain and pulled hard, and there was a sudden noise of iron clashing from above. Then, a figure dangled straight down from the pitch-black roof.
In an instant, my heart felt as if it had followed the fall from a height, creating a strong feeling of weightlessness.
It was Burris!
My eyes snapped open and I immediately tried to rush over, but Dennis was one step ahead of me.
He held the dagger I had brought with me, against Burris' heart, and smiled at me, "Miss Chris, you better behave yourself, after all, I still want to invite Burris to our wedding."
I dared not move at once and could only look at them nervously.
Burris had his head hung low and looked completely unconscious. His white shirt was covered in slashes and nearly half of the fabric was stained red, looking wretched and vulnerable.
I swallowed and compromised with Dennis, "Okay, I promise you. I'll marry you, as long as you let Burris go."
Dennis narrowed his eyes and looked me up and down, his eyes gradually becoming flirty, "I have a question, you slept with Burris, didn't you?"
Rolling hot blood almost broke through my scalp and I looked at him angrily, not answering his question.
"You're still not listening enough, Chris," Dennis' grip on the knife was slightly harder and Burris followed with a muffled grunt, another blotch of bright red blood where his heart had been.
"No!" I excitedly tried to lunge for him, but was yanked tightly by the butler, who was surprisingly stronger than me.
"Cheryl ......," Burris looked over at me with some surprise as she gradually regained consciousness.
"It's me, Burris, I'm here to save you." My voice was anxiously tinged with sobs, my heart throbbing with pain as if the dagger was lodged in my heart.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Dennis shouted twice in displeasure, "I didn't ask you guys to fall in love."
"Why does he call you Cheryl?" asked Dennis, raising half an eyebrow at me.
"It's Burris' term of endearment for me." I made up a lie without batting an eye.
"Is that so?" Dennis hooked the corners of his mouth and looked at Burris provocatively, "Then I'll call her Cheryl too, and I'll do everything you've done to her again."
"Bah!" Burris fought the urge to spit at him.
His hands and feet were tied and he seemed to have his meridians cut, not even strong enough to support himself.
Dennis had been calm, but after Burris did so, his wrists trembled violently.
"Don't you dare spit on me, you insolent bastard!" Dennis scolded angrily, the dagger he held in his hand continuing to stab forward.
Burris winced in pain, but didn't even let out a muffled grunt.
"Stop it, Dennis! You promised me you'd let him go!" I shouted excitedly at Dennis.
Dennis stopped the movement of his hands and his twisted features gradually spread apart.
He looked at Burris smugly and said, "You hear that? You useless piece of shit, your fiancée is going to marry me to save you."
He was so excited it was as if he had stepped on his enemy's tail.
But his ruse should have worked, Burris looked up at me with a jerk as if his tail had really been stepped on, "No, Cheryl?! Is he telling the truth?"
I didn't know how to explain, and under Dennis' forced stare, I could only avoid Burris' gaze and nod slowly.
"Hahahaha ......" Dennis laughed out loud in triumph.
"You're a useless guy, you can't even protect your own woman. To give the power of inheritance to the devil, and to be cheated by the elders one after another, how stupid!" Dennis looked at Burris with contempt.
Burris frowned without retorting, his crimson eyes all pained.
I suddenly realized that Burris was following Dennis' shadowy heart and starting to spit on himself.
"Burris, remember I love you, I love you enough to do this!" I shouted to Burris, my gaze firm.
"I love you too Cheryl, I won't leave you ......" Burris' voice was a little weak, but his eyes were just as determined as mine.
"What a touching love, but you'll never be together again." Dennis said with a sardonic smile.
"Dennis, it's time you kept your promise." I looked at him nervously.
"Of course." Dennis said with a grin.
"What ......" Burris' words were cut off in his throat before he could finish them.
The dagger in Dennis' hand stabbed fully into Burris' heart!
"Oh! No!" I let out a harsh scream, I hadn't expected him to do this at all.
I struggled up hard in the butler's hands, going crazy, and finally broke free of his grip.
"Burris, Burris ......" I chanted Burris' name over and over again, quickly running towards him.
I lifted my already extended sharp claws and grabbed at Dennis' temple. He quickly dodged backwards and I only caught him on the cheek.
There were three dark scratches on half of Dennis' face, crimson blood spilling from the wounds, rendering his entire face gruesome.
He finally stopped looking at me with that flippant look in his eyes and instead half-squinted as he sized me up.
I couldn't be bothered to go after him and immediately crouched down to check on Burris.
The knife was still lodged in his heart, he was completely unconscious, the vampire wasn't breathing, and I didn't know how to make sure he was still alive.
Was he still alive?
My whole body trembled with anxiety, and I was in a cold sweat in moments.
Maybe I should pull the damn dagger out, so I thought, and I placed my hand on the hilt.
"Hey Cheryl, if you still want to see Burris, you better let go of your hand." Dennis sneered from the side.
I stopped the impulse at once and looked at him with red eyes.
"Burris is still alive right?" I asked him in a hoarse voice.
Before Dennis could answer, I followed up with a threat to him, "You better tell me the real answer or you won't get anything from me."
"If you give him to the little witch soon, he'll still have a chance to live, but he'll be the lowest of the low vampires." Dennis curled his mouth sinisterly.
