Chapter 64

Cheryl's POV:
"Good evening, my bride. The wedding is about to begin, so I hope you'll be honest." Dennis' disgusting voice rang out beside me.
I was let down by the butler, Dennis would be having the wedding here tonight and now they had to let me out to get dressed.
"You are disgusting, Dennis!" i looked at him fiercely, in fact i had no energy left, they hadn't let me eat in the last few days.
"Looks like my bride still has some strength." Dennis raised an eyebrow at the butler.
The butler met Dennis's gaze and immediately dropped his head in horror and turned to leave.
After a moment, the butler came back with an extra gun in his hand. He stood outside the cage and raised the gun at me.
I knew they weren't going to kill me just yet, but what was in that pistol was definitely not a good thing either.
"What are you going to do?" I stared nervously at the muzzle of the gun.
"Don't worry, Miss Cheryl, it's just a potion to temporarily slow you down." The butler said with respect, pulling the trigger and the bullet fired immediately, hitting me in the heart.
After a stab of pain, it was as if I had been dosed with tens of tons of retardant, my body was drained of strength and even the movement of raising my hands was very strained.
But I was still conscious, and all I could do was watch the butler open the cage and let him pull me out.
Dennis cupped my face and pawed and stroked it with abandon. It felt like being caught in a nightmare that I couldn't wake up from, and there was nothing I could do about it.
I felt desperate and scared and couldn't help but miss Burris, who I was sure would come to my rescue, but the wedding was about to start and he never showed up.
I was worried that something had happened to him and that he was late.
It was a good thing that Dennis wasn't interested in my body, or maybe he just wanted to enjoy my scared expression that way, and after a while, he had the butler take me away anyway.
The butler handed me over to the maids again to be cleaned and dressed. I felt like a sacrificial piece at the mercy of someone, just waiting to be cleaned and decorated to be served on the altar.
The maids cleaned me and dressed me in a gorgeous wedding dress with heavy make-up ......
I didn't know how long it would take for the housekeeper's potion to wear off, and when I was cleaned up, I still hadn't regained my mobility.
I had to be carried out by the servants, and by this time some guests had arrived in the hall.
They included the three elders of the Howard family, the Witch clan, the Elves, the Giants, and more. They all shot me that playful look, as if they were a group of spectators coming to see a vaudeville show.
I couldn't help but start worrying about Burris and the others, if they came to my rescue, could they really handle so many people?
The wedding took place according to human procedure, and even though I couldn't even stand up as the bride, Dennis and I finished the ceremony to the applause of the crowd.
After that, I was sent back upstairs for now while Dennis had to talk to these fey.
When it was time to eat, I would be placed in front of Dennis like a meal. He would drain my blood to gain my power and become king of the vampires in front of the audience.
Burris didn't come.
I lay in bed with a numb expression and some mixed emotions.
Rationally, of course, I didn't want Burris to come to my rescue; it was too dangerous. But when he didn't actually show up for the wedding, it was as if my mood had hit rock bottom again.
I had to admit, it felt like abandonment.
Thinking that way, I was so sad I almost cried, tears already welling up in my eyes.
Suddenly, there was a small rattling sound from the doorway.
Because this bedroom was very quiet, this small rattle seemed extra clear.
But with my back to the door and the effects of the potion still in place, I couldn't even make a move to turn around.
After the door slammed, there was no sound at all from the bedroom, but I could feel someone approaching behind me.
I felt a pang of nervousness, curious about who was behind me. What was certain, though, was that it definitely wasn't Dennis, or he would have opened his mouth and said something disgusting by now.
Finally, the person stopped behind me and I fought to muster my vocal cords so I could produce three muffled words, "Who ......are ...... you?"
"Cheryl, I'm coming." A raspy voice sounded behind me.
It wasn't Burris's voice, and I couldn't help but lose it a little.
Then, the man suddenly wrapped his arms around my neck and held me tightly in his arms. Because of this position, I finally got a good look at his face and couldn't help but frown hard.
"Who ......are ...... you?" i repeated the question to him and struggled somewhat resistently in his arms.
I obviously couldn't break free of him in my current state, even though he was only an elderly man, but he seemed to see my intentions. He looked at me in shock, a pained look flashing across his face.
After a moment, he took it upon himself to put me back on the bed, moving gently.
The old man had green eyes that seemed to be hooded in a white mist, eyes that were obviously very unfamiliar, but they gave me a sense of familiarity.
I couldn't help but stare at him with searching eyes, but the old man sensed my intentions and immediately dropped his head and hid his face.
"Who ......are ...... you?", I asked him again.
The old man glanced cautiously in the direction of the door, avoided my eyes, and spoke to me very quickly, "I am a friend of Amanda's, and she told me to come and save you. We have to leave immediately, you can't move for a while, can you?"
I blinked at him, learning that he was Amanda's friend, and I wasn't curious about him anymore.
He was a human, but it wasn't surprising that the witches were human by nature. And it wasn't surprising that Amanda was two hundred years old and had an aged friend.
Maybe the old man had some special skills.
Quickly, the old man found the potion needle still pinned to my chest.
"I ...... am going to help you pull it out, Miss Cheryl ......." The old man said sharply, his eyes dodging, but he couldn't help but sneak glances at me.
If it was before, I would have thought the old man was a pervert. But now I'm not the least bit disgusted, and I actually find the old man a little cute.
Gosh, it must have been too long since I've seen Burris.
Thinking about it, I couldn't help but wonder again why it wasn't Burris who came to my rescue.
"May I? We don't have much time, Miss Cheryl?" I went too long without an answer and the old man asked again eagerly.
I blinked at him again, although the area was a little hidden, but the situation was too urgent to care too much right now.
After the old man helped me pull the potion needle out, I gradually regained my mobility, and the first thing I regained was my ability to speak.
"Where's Burris? Do you know Burris? Why didn't he come?" I immediately asked the question on my mind.
The old man's body suddenly froze, his lips slightly open, his expression looking slightly bemused.
This made me tense up violently, and grabbing his dry hand, I questioned in a stern voice, "What happened to Burris? Tell me clearly!"
"No, no, he's fine ......"
Before the old man could finish his words, there was a sudden rush of footsteps outside the door.
