Chapter 43

Burris smiled anew at that, and reached up to pet the cat on the head as well.
Several more strokes followed in quick succession until the cat raised its paw to scratch him, and only then did Burris withdraw his hand.
"Does it have a name? Where did this come from?" I asked Burris.
Burris, still looking at the cat, one hand raised and lowered, shook his head and said, "It doesn't have a name yet, so you'll have to give it one. He was bought by Diana at an auction, and I've left him alone since I bought him, and I've had a maid feed him since then."
"Poor little guy, he doesn't have a name yet." I stroked his head, he wouldn't resist me the way he resisted Burris.
I started to think of a name in earnest, but I'd been too busy learning various fighting arts and reading books since I was a kid to really think of any good names.
"How about you name it instead?" I turned to Burris for help.
Burris, however, shook his head and said, "It's a pet that belongs to you, you have to give it a name before it will fully belong to you, it's like a contract."
Well, I looked down at the cat again, and it looked up at me.
Its fur was really white, it looked like milk ......
"Burris, I've got an idea!" I suddenly exclaimed.
"What?" Burris looked at me dotingly and smiled.
I looked at Burris and asked, "How about just calling it Milk?"
"Sure, I've never had it, but that's something that looks delicious." Burris said with a smile.
"Milk, Milk ......" I call out the cat's name to tease him and he responds in kind.
I had a new friend at the manor, and although Burris said he was my pet, I preferred to think of him as my friend.
Perhaps I was so happy with my life now that I had almost forgotten what Tyrone had done to me, and even thought there was nothing wrong with being a vampire.
I was starting to look forward to my wedding with Burris, and I thought the happily ever after would last forever. And with Burris and I both being vampires, that happiness would last until the end of time.
But that's just what I expected, life can't be smooth forever.
Half a month later, Mopso came to Burris out of the blue, saying he had found a way to awaken Diana, and Burris had to leave the manor and head for the Aysa desert.
This is the result of Mopso's prophecy, which says that there is an underground palace in the Aysa Desert that contains an ancient book called the Book of the Dead, which contains the spell to awaken Diana.
The magic and spell will draw on the power of the devil, which is the only way to save Diana at this point.
Burris wanted his only sister to be able to attend our wedding, so upon learning of this, Burris prepared to travel to Aysa immediately.
"I'm going with you, Burris."
In Burris' crystal casket, I pulled Burris who was ready to leave.
"Ah, Cheryl, I want to take you with me, but it's too dangerous." Burris wrapped his arms around me and pressed his forehead to mine.
We leaned in close, Burris looking at me intently, a little closer.
He tried to kiss me, but I avoided it.
Burris looks at me lost in thought and whispers, "I thought you'd accepted me, Cheryl."
"Because you won't take me with you." I said feigning indifference.
"Cheryl, are you angry? But I'm just afraid that you'll get hurt and that Cecil will go with you and I might not be able to protect both of you then."
"You'd be devastated if he got hurt." Burris explained condescendingly.
Burris reminded me that I almost forgot about Cecil, but ......
"But you don't have the power of inheritance now, is it okay to go alone?" I asked Burris worriedly.
"Hadero will come with me." Burris said.
"Hadero? But didn't you say the elders weren't trustworthy?" I got more worried.
"Yes, that's why I also called Amanda, she's interested in that ancient book too." Burris said with a smile.
"Okay." I said helplessly.
For some reason, I was always a little uneasy, as if I had a feeling something bad was going to happen to Burris if he left. But I could neither stop him nor follow him.
"Well, Cheryl, don't worry. I'll be back as soon as I can." Burris promised me.
"If you don't come back before the wedding, I'm going to run away." I threatened Burris.
But Burris didn't take it seriously, and when I wasn't looking, he kissed me on the lips anyway.
Burris smiled smugly and said, "Run away, I'm sure I can catch you anyway."
"Then you try, Burris."
I craned my neck up and bit him hard on the chin in retaliation.
"Hiss ......" Burris let out a painful cry, "Cheryl, you're ruthless."
I looked at him provocatively and said seriously, "You should take my words seriously, I'm not joking."
"Okay, I was wrong Cheryl," Burris smiled helplessly, "I promise to be back safely before the wedding."
"Don't mess with me, Cheryl, I'm leaving." Burris then said.
I was just worried about his safety, but hearing him say that made me suddenly really feel a little sad.
"You're right Burris, give me another kiss." I invited to Burris.
We kissed in the coffin for a while, and Burris still left the cottage before dawn.
It was quiet around me for a moment, and I felt a sudden suffocation as I looked at the dark crystal overhead.
After lying down for a while, I sat up from the coffin and went to look for Cecil with the cat in my arms. But I had just left Burris's bedroom when a powerful pressure suddenly came at me.
I was instantly overwhelmed and couldn't move as the cat squealed and suddenly jumped from my arms and ended up quickly disappearing at the end of the hallway.
"Hampton, gonna go after that cat?"
Elder Mopso's voice rang out behind me.
"No, it's just a cowardly beast." Hampton said back.
It wasn't long before they came up to me, staring at me with their cloudy eyes.
"Burris is right, you guys really aren't to be trusted." I looked at them indifferently.
"You are in no position to judge the elders, everything we do is for the Howard family." Mopso's voice was majestic.
"Uh huh, so what are you guys going to do to me?" I looked at them calmly.
"We just want to help you raise your rank as quickly as possible." Mopso said.
"Wouldn't that be easy?" I chuckled, sarcastically, "I could become a Duke instantly if you would just let me drain your blood."
"We are family elders, how dare you, lowly blood, presume to think of our blood!" Mopso's face turned red with anger at me.
I snorted in disdain, "It's all an excuse, you're just doing these pointless things to cement your position."
"Alright Mopso, no need to talk to her so much, take it away." Hampton gave the order in a cold voice.
