Chapter 42

Vicki's POV:
That bitch Chris hit me hard and my shoulder still hasn't healed itself to this day.
I don't understand why Burris is defending that bitch, she's not as high as me and her bloodline is low, a pariah who doesn't even have a status background.
I've loved Burris for so many years, but he's never cared about me, and now he's hurting me for that bitch.
With a heart full of resentment, I wanted to find my father to teach Chris a good lesson for me. my father was the man who loved me the most, and all those who had bullied me would suffer his judgment.
When I pushed open the door to my father's room, it was empty, and I guessed he had gone to find Burris.
I knew that they had come this time to urge Burris to marry, and the thought of it made me despair. It was no secret that I liked Burris, they all knew my feelings and yet they still let Burris marry another woman.
Even my father was like that, I had asked him why and he only told me it was a prophecy from Uncle Mopso. I could tell that father did not like this Prince Consort either.
I sat on the sofa for a while and waited, and finally my father's voice sounded outside, but I also heard Uncle Mopso's voice.
I didn't bandage my wounds in order for my father to take pity on me. But it would be too humiliating for the others to know that I had been injured by that bitch Chris.
Thinking of this, I immediately hid in the cupboard.
I had just closed the locker door when the door to my father's bedroom was pushed open and they were still talking.
"Hadero was so reckless and almost ruined the family's business, how dare he contradict the Prince?" Father grumbled.
Uncle Mopso laughed dryly twice and said, "Hadero has always had such a temper, but he would never betray the Prince, and you know it."
Father sneered and said dismissively, "What's the use of us knowing? Look at the Prince's face today, the boy has never trusted us, and even less so now."
"The Prince will always understand us if we remain loyal." Uncle Mopso said.
Father grimaced without comment, and Uncle Mopso stopped talking, but he wouldn't go either, which made me a little anxious.
"Hampton, is it true what you just promised the Prince?"
Another moment passed before Uncle Mopso hesitantly asked this.
"Of course, I will prepare a grand wedding for the Prince and the woman. But until then, we have to make the Prince Consort of a rank worthy of the Prince before we can do that, and I was just trying to get the Prince to let down his guard on us." Father said.
"So that's what you had in mind, I thought you gave up." Mopso said with a sigh of relief.
"Of course not, didn't the prophecy say this was about the prosperity of the Howard family? Of course we can't give up." Father said seriously.
I clenched my fists in the cupboard as I listened to my father's conversation. I wasn't as great as my father; I didn't care about the family prospering, only about the position of the Prince Consort.
But not only did my father have to help that woman prepare for her wedding, he had to help her rise in rank, and I was going crazy with jealousy.
The conversation continued outside, and I forced myself to continue eavesdropping in the cupboard with a heart full of resentment.
Uncle Mopso sounded a little worried, "But Burris is listening to Chris now, and that woman won't take human blood, so if we wait like this, I'm afraid the Campbell family will have struck by now."
"Just find an excuse to branch Burris out." Father said carelessly.
"Oh, Hampton, you've been planning this for a long time, haven't you?"
Uncle Mopso asked in surprise, he was the most foolish of the elders in the House of Elders, with only a relatively high level of prophetic ability.
"Didn't you already know the way to free Diana? It's just that we didn't tell Burris at the time in order to make him want to go and gain the power. Now since he doesn't want to gain the power anymore, you can tell him the news and let him go away for a while." Father explained patiently.
The Elders' prophecy couldn't be told to anyone else, and from their brief conversation, I had no idea what power Burris was going to gain and why he was giving it up, but I guessed it might have something to do with Chris.
"When Burris is gone, we'll lock Chris up again. Let her bleed a little first, put a few blood slaves in when she feels hungry, and see if she can still hold ...... it," Father confided his plan.
Father consulted with Uncle Mopso for a while and went out to find Uncle Hadero again, which is when I came out of the closet.
Whatever power Burris is going to gain, I'm going to kill Chris before she gets stronger!
Cheryl's POV:
I was kind of looking forward to the gift Burris was talking about, especially after he told me to close my eyes and that anticipation reached its peak.
"Burris, can I open my eyes now?" I said with a smile, carefully stepping forward as Burris guided me.
"Just be patient for a little longer, Cheryl," Burris said, "stop for now and don't open your eyes."
I listened to him and stopped, holding back my curiosity and squeezing my eyes shut, despite the anticipation in my heart.
Burris let go of my hand and then I heard the sound of the door opening.
Then Burris took my hand again and said, "Okay, now go on ...... Oh!"
He was supposed to say for me to keep going, but for some reason it turned into a gasp.
I was a little worried that an unexpected situation had occurred and was about to open my eyes to see when I suddenly felt something pressed against my shoulder.
Oh! No! It was something jumping on my shoulder!
It was a warm, living mass of creatures, its fur even sweeping against the side of my cheek.
Startled, I immediately opened my eyes and inclined my head to look over my shoulder.
Oh my God, I couldn't believe my eyes.
There was a beautiful little kitty standing on my shoulder!
It had snowy white fur, clear blue eyes, and looked at me with lazy and condescending eyes, and it was now resting nicely on my shoulder.
As I looked over, it barked at me, and lifted one front paw and nudged me on the nose with its fleshy pad.
My body immediately went rigid and I didn't dare move. I was worried that the slightest movement would cause it to fall, so I had to look to Burris with a look of help.
Burris looked a little helpless and said with a smile, "I didn't expect it to like you so much, and it ran towards you before you even opened your eyes."
With that, Burris carefully lifted the cat down from my neck.
The kitty was reluctant, its blue pupils wide with fear, its paws still tugging at my sweater, and a constant purr escaping from its mouth.
"Burris, let me do it."
I grabbed the cat in an awkward position and then carefully scooped it into my arms.
The cat immediately stopped yowling in my arms and squinted comfortably, all four paws raised.
"Burris, where did you get that? He's just so cute." I asked in surprise, while my eyes were still on the cat.
"Didn't I say yesterday that I'd get you a cat? Whatever you like, I can give you." Burris said fondly.
If I glanced up, I should have been able to see the expectant look in his eyes. But now I can't take my eyes off the kitty at all.
He's just so beautiful, especially with this pure white fur, and it's so extra soft to the touch that my palms feel like they're wrapped in cotton.
"Oh, now I suddenly think this is a terrible gift." Burris said with sudden distress.
"Why do you say that? I love this gift." I frown at Burris, a little worried that he'll take back the gift.
"Because you're focused on it right now." Burris said unhappily.
I laughed pleasantly, "Burris, are you competing with the cat for favor?"
"I just think you like it too much." Burris shrugged his eyebrows.
"Because it's a gift from Burris, so it'll like it a little more." I said with a smile.
When I was done, I stood on my tiptoes and gave Burris a kiss on the lips.
"Thank you, Burris, I love this gift as much as I love you."
