Chapter 18
Burris's POV.
After some tangling, I finally rescued the elders. The elders looked like they had suffered a lot, and their majestic demeanor had long since disappeared.
I learned of the Campbell family conspiracy from them.
It turns out that the Campbell family also prophesied about the hidden energy within Chris' body. But they didn't know who possessed such energy, and kidnapped the Elders.
Also, the Campbells and Hunters have a partnership and arguably disgusting deal.
The Hunters would supply the Campbells with blood slaves, and the Campbells would convert these blood slaves into lowly vampires and let them loose on the city before the Hunters would step in and hunt them to gain commissions and embrace from the residents.
Unfortunately, the elders couldn't take the torture and told them the truth, and now they're on to Chris.
I didn't expect the Elders to be so cowardly and almost killed them. In the end, I spared the elders for my father's sake, but I would no longer be under their control.
And, I got a sense from the bat that Cheryl had escaped again.
I have to find her before the Campbells do!
Cheryl told me that she had been a hunter. And that the place where I found her in the first place was a gathering place for hunters, and that she would probably go there again when she left the manor.
With that in mind, I stopped hesitating and quickly headed for the place.
On the way, I met Vicky, who was injured, which surprised me.
Vicky was surprised to see me too and immediately teleported to me.
"Lord Prince, what are you doing here?"
"Chris got away and I'm going after her." I explained.
To keep Cheryl's secret, I still call her Chris in front of everyone else.
Vicky's eyes flashed a little, and I didn't know why.
Vicky then excitedly confided in me, "Yes, Chris escaped and she took me hostage. I saw her leave with the werewolf and the man looked like her lover. They must have colluded."
"A werewolf? You said Chris was with a werewolf?" I heard my own angry voice.
Vicky took a step back from me, her voice much weaker, "Yes, Prince Burris, she doesn't love you."
My eyes must be bloodshot and ugly right now, Cheryl always had a knack for pissing me off, even if she wasn't even here right now.
She had told me she had a lover. I thought she was in love with a human, but I never thought it would be my natural enemy.
After a moment of calm, I told Vicky, "I'm going to go get her back."
"Why?" Vicky looked at me in disbelief, "She betrayed you."
"She's my destined wife and she's a blood, the wolves won't accept her, she'll choose me." I said.
Having said that, and not waiting for Vicky's reply, I set off again towards Peterman.
"Well, Prince Burris, please allow me to join you." Vicky caught up with me, sounding a little helpless.
Ignoring her, my steps became more and more hurried, I wanted to see Cheryl immediately.
Cheryl's POV.
After another night of walking, Duster and I finally reached Peterman just before dawn.
The sadness that had been suppressed in my heart suddenly spread when I returned to my long-lost hometown.
A glimpse of sunrise emerged from the sky and would soon be followed by sunrise.
I couldn't help but look over to the lookout on the gates, where I had seen the most beautiful sunrises and would wait for sunsets in my leisure time.
But now the sun has become the thing I fear most, and that beauty I can no longer see.
"Come on, Cheryl," Duster said, taking my hand in his.
As before, we found a hotel in town and stayed there. As I lay in bed, the familiar noise of the street outside was already ringing.
It was a life that belonged to humans, and I found long-lost peace of mind in that sound, and surprisingly slept through it.
It was almost dark when I woke up again, and it was Duster who woke me up.
"Oh! You're finally awake, Cheryl, I thought vampires didn't sleep." Duster exclaimed, he was sitting on the edge of my bed.
Duster has really taken it well, and now he can joke around with me.
I smiled at him and jokingly asked as well, "How long have you been sitting here, have I snored?"
Apparently Duster didn't catch the joke, he thought about it seriously and replied to me, "It seems to have actually hit, oh that's amazing, vampires still snore."
My smile froze on my face and I looked at him with a strained smile.
"What's wrong?" Duster looked at me confused and threatened me seriously, "Don't stare at me like that, my wolf might attack you, Cheryl."
I sighed helplessly and walked off the bed, telling him, "Duster, I'm really worried you'll never find your Mate for the rest of your life. Anyway, that person won't be me."
When I finished, I went into the bathroom to wash up.
"Why, Cheryl? Why do you say that?"
Duster was still hissing as I shut him out, questioning me about why, and the door clanged so loudly I was really afraid he'd slam it shut.
While I was out, Duster came back with some beef and when he was done we went to Cecil.
Duster just sat on the couch and ate, he didn't even use utensils, he just grabbed it with his hands. Honestly, watching Duster enjoy his breakfast made me feel horny.
But I wasn't hungry for his food, I was hungry for him, especially when he was also topless in the winter.
"Duster, I think you should put your clothes back on, it's drawing too much attention." I reminded him, and sheepishly averted my eyes.
"But then I'd feel so hot, my body's like coals of fire, believe it or not." Duster made a point of craning his neck as he said this.
I did my best to suppress the desire to draw blood and clenched my teeth hard.
"I got it!" Duster suddenly shouted in surprise.
I looked over at him in confusion, my eyes a longing I couldn't hide.
"Cheryl, are you being shy?" He asked me excitedly.
"No!" I felt helpless and said, "I just couldn't resist sucking your blood, you were like a steak that jiggled in front of me."
Duster froze, then let go of me and frowned, "Oh, that's really bad!"
Then he acted as if nothing had happened and settled his beef.
After that, it was completely dark, and the winter streets were almost deserted.
Duster and I headed down the shady path with no street lights, our destination being Cecil's small apartment in Peterman.
That neighborhood was all bought up by Tyrone, and hunters almost always live there.
I don't live there though, I'm in the top 5 of the hunters list and could live near Tyrone's, which is a rich area of Peterman.
But I still go to Cecil's a lot to help him cook.
"Cheryl!" shouted Duster suddenly from behind me.
"What's wrong Duster," I immediately tensed up.
