Chapter 164: Zombie

*It’s hard to see things when you are too close. Take a step back and look. – Bob Ross*
Reese turned and looked at the mural that Dean had painted on the wall behind his desk. For the past month, he had been trying to find the zombie. He had been nose to wall over just about every inch of the wall. Still, he could find nothing.
Grabbing his phone he looked to see if she had responded to his text.
*You don’t have to tell me where the zombie is, but give me a hnt*
*Hint. Hnt should have been hint*
There still was no response.
“Teenagers.” He complained out loud.
“Give them an inch and they swim all over the ocean.” Gigi said from the doorway.
“Okay, Sebastian.” He chuckled as he turned around to face her.
She laughed as she propped herself against the doorframe. “That was my mom’s favorite quote for the longest time. And if you asked her, she had teenagers for the longest time.”
“I just realized; I’m going to be seventy when these three will graduate from high school.” His eyes widened as the reality of that set in.
“Seventy-one.” Gigi corrected with a grin.
“You’re not helping.” He grumbled.
“I was hired to take care of your babies, not your ego.” She pointed out.
“Maybe a little bit of the ego?”
“I charge extra.” She smirked as his phone chirped.
Reese grabbed his phone and groaned. He finally got an answer from Dean, and it did him no good.
*Bob Ross has a good quote about being able to see things*
And a winky emoji.
“Teenagers.” He complained again.
“I have an odd sense of déjà vu.” Gigi admitted.
He tossed the phone on his desk in frustration. “Dean painted my mural while she was home after her mom’s death.” He motioned to the forest scene behind him. “She said that there’s a zombie in it and I can’t find it.”
Gigi looked at the wall, turned her head to the side, then tilted it the other way before grinning. “I found it.”
“There is no way that you found it that damn quick.” He complained. “Where the hell is it?”
The young woman laughed. “Obviously, she wants you to find it on your own. So, I’m not going to tell you.” Leaning back a little, she smiled down the hall. Since the twins weren’t walking yet, he could only assume that it was his wife that their nanny was smiling at.
“He’s being quite grumpy today.” Gigi warned as she moved out of the doorway and into the hall.
“He’ll be in a better mood once he’s surrounded by a bunch of seamen again.” Helen said as she came through the doorway.
“Hey, you do you.” Gigi laughed.
“Har, har.” Reese replied dryly as he searched for Bob Ross quotes. “Happy little mistakes. Make a bird. Fall like a waterfall. What the hell.”
“What are you looking at?” his wife asked as she sat on his leg.
“Dean gave me a hint for the zombie.”
“You still haven’t found him?” Helen asked.
“No, my lovely Kitten, I have not.”
She kissed his cheek and then stood up and grabbed his hand. He also stood up and followed her to the door where she had him turn and look at the wall.
“Look at the *whole* painting.” She told him.
Reese pulled her in front of him and wrapped his arms around her shoulders and rested his chin on her head. He studied the wall for a while looking at key points. Spots that grabbed his attention.
“I still don’t see it.”
Both women laughed.
“The whole wall, Reese.” His wife advised.
Letting out a deep breath, he closed his eyes and cleared his mind. Then he opened them and looked at the wall. Without focusing on anything, he simply looked at the whole wall.
There it was.
The whole damned wall was a zombie.
Even the way that the shelves were arranged added to the creature.
“Son of a bitch.” He muttered.
“Now you’ll never unsee it.” Helen told him with a grin.
“I’d believe that.” He hugged her to his chest.
“Now that your office is going to haunt me for the rest of my days,” Gigi said lightly, “I’m going to go check on the babies and then go on my lunch date.”
“You have a date?” Reese asked her.
“Don’t worry, dad.” Gigi smiled at her boss. “She’s a firefighter and I met her through Ty.”
“Hmmmm.” Was his only response as she went down the hall.
“You know, Bunny told me what your big flaw is and at first I didn’t think it could be a flaw. But now I see it can be a big issue.” Helen said as she turned in his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“What’s my big flaw?” he asked before giving her a light kiss.
“You try to take care of everyone.”
“That’s not a bad thing.” He countered.
“It is when you’re even trying to take care of the person hired to help us take of our babies.”
“She’s still just a kid.”
Helen smiled at her husband. “At her age I had three kids. You had a daughter and an ex-wife with two more kids.”
“You’re saying she should have three kids?” he grinned.
“Not at all.”
“Because, technically, she has three kids.”
“You’re horrible.” Helen rolled her eyes at him.
“Not at all what you said last night.”
“Not what I plan on saying later tonight either.” She said as she slipped out of his arms.
“You cannot say something like that and then walk away.” Reese told her as she went down the hall to the kitchen.
“What are you going to do about it?” pausing at the end of the hall, she grinned at him over her shoulder. “Sir.”
“Be careful, Kitten.” He warned from his doorway.
“Cheryl and Wayne have volunteered to watch the triplets tonight.”
“It’s not Monday.” Confusion laced his voice.
“It’s not. Don’t you have an officers meeting tonight?”
“Yes.” Confusion was still evident on his face and then understanding dawned on him. “You want to go to the club tonight?”
“I enjoyed lunch when we ate there.”
“I think I remember eating at the club.” The grin on his face was devilish. “It was my favorite meal. It’s still my favorite meal.”
“Yeah?” she grabbed her purse and keys off the kitchen island and then walked back to kiss him.
“Where are you going?”
“Pinky gave me a gift certificate to get waxed.”
“I like the way she thinks.”
Laughing, Helen kissed him again. “I think you like the way her husband thinks.”
“Possibly.” Reese agreed, smiling at her as he tucked some hair behind her ear. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
