Chapter 48: Decisions

*She remembered who she was and the game changed. – Lalah Deliah*

After lunch, Helen continued to look at the large bouquet sitting on her reception desk. Every time that she looked at it, she could feel her eyes water. She fought back her tears and forced a smile.

“Helen?” Frank said from behind her. “Why don’t you step in my office for a moment?”

She nodded and called Donna. After writing down the appointments, she locked her computer and headed down the hall. Knocking on the door to the inner office, dread filled her when she saw Katherine in the office also. There was also another man that Helen was pretty sure was Geoff, the manager of accountants.

Compared to the suits that the two men wore and the expensive maternity dress that Katherine wore, Helen felt under dressed. She was wearing a black wrap dress that Reese had bought her from the P & Q boutique. It was a casual outfit, but professional. Most of her clothes from before she started going to the gym no longer fit her. The wrap dresses had become her favorite with her body that seemed to be shrinking away.

“Come in.” Frank smiled warmly. “Please, have a seat.”

Helen smiled at them as she sat down. “I’m sorry if I haven’t been -.”

“You’re not in trouble.” Geoff interrupted with a grin.

“We were able to get your transcript from the college that you gave us.” Katherine said handing Helen some papers as she sat on the other side of the conference table. “You are at a point where you can finish your classes or do an internship to get your degree.”

“We would like to offer you an internship in the accounting department.” Geoff said sliding over a folder. “Typically, these positions pay at a much lower rate. But since you are an employee, we’ll leave your pay just as it is.”

“You’ll also keep all your PTO and benefits.” Katherine continued. “If you agree, then you’ll split your time between the front and accounting for the rest of the year. January you will move full-time to accounting.”

“Of course, if you agree, we will have to have cake to celebrate.” Frank said with a grin.

“Oh, you have to agree because now I want cake.” Katherine declared.

“For how long?” Helen asked softly.

“Since Frank mentioned cake.” Katherine said. “This time.”

Frank chuckled at the pregnant woman currently daydreaming of cake.

Rolling his eyes at Katherine, Geoff opened the folder and flipped a few pages before pointing at a paragraph about halfway down. “Twelve months starting today. One year from today we will evaluate and get back with the college for your degree. At that time, we will most likely offer you a position as an accountant.”

“I don’t know if I’m ready for something like this.” She admitted.

“I think that you are.” Frank told her. “I’ve watched you over the last several months, and after seeing your transcript, I’m even more certain.”

“Don’t feel pressured.” Katherine said. “Take some time and think about it. Either way, I’m going to tell the it guy to find me a reason for cake.”

Katherine stood up and walked out of the office. As she walked down the hall, she started singing a made up song declaring pregnant women need cake. Geoff shook his head as he laughed and followed for entertainment’s sake.

“That poor man. She gets pregnant and their roles reverse.” Frank laughed.

“What do you mean?” Helen asked.

“He’s her Dom, right up until she gets pregnant and then she’s in charge.”

“How….?”

“How do I know?” he asked, and she nodded. Frank grinned at her. “We all belong to the same Club. Reese hasn’t been there since he started chasing after you.”

“You know what he is?”

“Yes. He’s a Dom. And I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen him like this with a sub before.”

“I’m not…” Looking down as she trailed off, she blushed bright red.

“Eyes on me.” He commanded and she obeyed. “I’d say that you are a natural sub. You’ve just never had anyone help you explore that side with you.”

“I’m not sure that I can.” Helen whispered.

“When you go out, or eat at his place, does he feed you? Does he shower you with gifts? Take care of everything for you? And I know that you have a safe word with him.”

She looked back down at the table, blushing again.

“It’s not as bad as you might think. And the man is head over heels for you. Sometimes, you just have to face your fears head on and tell them to fuck off.”

Nodding, she gathered everything up and returned to her desk. Before Donna left, she was still gushing over the flowers, Helen grabbed the florist card and pulled it out of the little envelope.

‘Helen, I feel like we can face anything together. I don’t want to face the world without you. Reese.’

“Donna, I forgot to give something to Katherine. I’ll be right back.”

She walked down the hall and found Katherine in her husband’s office. Helen handed her the signed offer.

“Today is my cheat day, I heard there would be cake.”

Sitting in a parking lot after work, she sent her first message to Reese in more than a week.

‘I want to face the world with you. But I need to do a few things for me first. Can we have dinner the Monday after Thanksgiving?’

Helen sent the message and then turned her phone off. She didn’t want anyone talking her out of this. The first thing she had to do was prove to herself that she could face her fears by herself. Once she knew she could, it would be easier to face them with someone else.

Walking into a building that she never thought that she would enter, she was met by a heavily tattooed man. The look on his face showed that he was equally surprised that a woman like her walked in. A nervous laugh escaped when she thought, just wait until I tell him what I want him to do.
