Chapter 28: Lava Cake
*She was brave and strong and broken all at once. – Anna Funder*
Reese and Helen talked all through dinner. He told her about growing up with parents who couldn’t seem to make up their minds on spouses. And being the only boy among all of the kids. She carefully sidestepped questions about her. Until the dam broke and it all came out.
“My mom died in childbirth with my little brother, he died a few days later. Dad never could look at me without seeing her. He married a woman so that I had a mom. Coralynn did not like me. The older I got, the more I looked like my mom and the more dad stayed away. The more he stayed away, the meaner Coralynn got.”
“By meaner, do you mean abusive?” Reese asked gently and she nodded.
“I didn’t realize it at the time. I just thought that I was bad.” Helen looked at her plate as tears filled her eyes.
Reese moved his chair around the small table until he was next to her. Placing an arm around her shoulders, he gently pulled her into him.
Helen leaned into him, laying her cheek on his chest. “I never really talked about it before. Sorry, I babble when I’m nervous.”
Holding her close to him, he gently rubbed his hand up and down her arm. His parents divorced and remarried multiple times. But never once, did he ever feel unwanted. Or unloved.
“Sometimes, it needs to all come out.” He said, gently pressing a light kiss to the top of her head. “Remember, I live in a sea of estrogen. I’m good at being a life raft.”
Andrews appeared and cleared the table. “Any dessert, sir?”
“A loaded berry lava cake a la mode, please.” Reese said, continuing to rub his hand up and down Helen’s arm.
“Very well, sir. Just the one?”
“Yes, just one. And a pink champagne cocktail.” He said with a smile.
Andrews nodded and left them alone.
“I really shouldn’t eat any more.” Helen said sitting up. “Even as a cheat day, I’ve blown my diet out the window.”
Reese tipped her face up to him before lightly brushed his lips across hers. “I’ll help you burn off all those calories.” She stiffened and he chuckled. “I wasn’t thinking about that. But it’s a nice idea.”
“I’m not any good at it.” Helen mumbled.
He pressed his lips to her neck just below her ear. “I bet you are, you’ve just never had anyone let you explore what you want.”
Andrews placed the cake and cocktail on the table before disappearing from view.
“I don’t know what I want.” Helen admitted softly.
“Then it will be fun exploring.” He kissed her neck again before sitting back in his chair and picking up the dessert fork.
“I wish I could see what you see in me.” Helen murmured, not realizing she had said it out loud.
“I’ll be sure that you see what I see.” He told her scooping up a strawberry slice and piece of cake with the sauce. “Open up. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for all night.”
Obediently, she opened and let him put the sweet morsel in her mouth. Unable to help herself, she whimpered in pleasure. The sound went straight to his dick which immediately began transmitting Morse code to his brain. Reese swallowed hard.
“Don’t swallow,” he said softly as he grabbed the pink champagne cocktail and placed the glass to her lips. “Small sip.”
The bubbly liquid slipped into her mouth causing the flavors to pop and intensify. The small moan amplified the Morse code message.
“Baby, you’re making me seriously regret not getting a private room.” He whispered as he wiped off a drop of chocolate from her lips. He licked the chocolate off his thumb.
Blushing, she swallowed what was left in her mouth.
“I’ve been told that this cake should be called orgasm.” Reese said quietly as he got another bite with blueberries. “The sounds you’re making confirm that.”
“I wouldn’t know.” Helen whispered just before he gave her the bite. Once it was in her mouth, she took a small sip of champagne.
“You’ve never had one? An orgasm?” he asked her quietly and she looked down in shame as she shook her head.
“Something must be wrong with me.” She whispered.
“No, baby, there’s not.” He kissed her temple and then flagged Andrews down. Reese handed the man a card.
“Do you need to see the bill, sir?”
“No, thank you. Give yourself a twenty-five percent tip and tell Daniels to give me the card tomorrow.” Reese said standing up and helping Helen to her feet. “She can sign for me.”
“You’re just going to leave your card?” Helen asked surprised as he quickly walked them to the front door.
“My sister’s sister-in-law will take care of it.” He said handing the valet his tag.
“Where are we going?” Helen asked.
“Somewhere that we can talk without worrying about people hearing.”
