Chapter 94: Spam
*We’ve been trying to reach you about your car’s extended warranty…*
There was a feeling in the back of his mind that Reese could not shake. When he and Helen got home from their weekly date, the kids were on his couch watching a movie. Not a slasher movie, so JD must have chosen it.
“Your mom call?” Reese asked.
“No. But last week she said she might not be able to.” Dean said. Her voice told him that she was more worried than her words said.
All night, he had been restless. He got up and worked for a little bit. The shopping center would be starting the revamp next month. He had plenty of concerns with it. But he loved projects like this.
The thrill of it wasn’t there today. No matter what he did, he could not get into the project.
Reese decided that he needed to take a break. Go for a run. Lift some weights. Take Helen out for lunch. Looking at his watch, it was only nine thirty.
Was brunch a thing during the week? Or was it reserved for weekends and holidays?
Shrugging at his internal debate over brunch, Reese knew he had to choose something else. If he convinced Frank to let her have an early lunch, he might not get her back today.
Under her very prim and proper, conservative brown business suit was a lovely soft pink set of suspenders. Reese smiled as he thought about their shopping excursion. After Helen came out of the dressing room in the dark burgundy dress, he couldn’t help himself anymore.
“Daphne.” Reese said hoarsely and his niece popped her head around the corner. “Go to lunch. Make sure the door is locked.”
“Uhmmmm…” Daphne blushed, knowing what was about to happen in her dressing area.
“Buy a new chair while you’re out.”
“Reese!” Helen hissed.
“Can I get a refresh –.”
“Call and have Willow set it up.” He agreed and Daphne quickly left.
P & Q closed at four on Saturdays with shopping by appointment only. Today the entire time had been blocked off for Reese and Helen. Once he was sure that they were alone, he had bent her over the chair and took her from behind.
Glancing at the chair that now sat in the corner of his office he smiled. He really liked that chair. And the woman who had sat in it wearing nothing but her Shibari dress.
Now he really couldn’t concentrate on the contracts. He set everything aside as he stood up. Grabbing his gym bag, he headed out to Golden Iron to burn off this sense of unease.
“Do you ever work?” Pinky teased as he entered the gym.
“Not if I can help it.” Reese replied.
“Sooo… a little bird told me that she had to modify her workout.” She leaned over the counter and Reese was certain that she had hearts in her eyes.
“Did she now?” He grinned back at the younger woman.
“I’m happy for you.” She smiled at him and waved at another person as they came in. Pinky scanned both cards logging the two men in. The second man headed for the lockerroom while Reese remained at the desk.
They talked for a few more minutes and then Reese went through his regular work out. Since no one else was in the pool room, he did two sessions. The first one was his regular speed and the second was a relaxing swim.
Preston was not in yet, so Reese used one of the massage chairs before hitting the showers. Before he got dressed, he called Helen and asked her to go to lunch. There was a missed call and a voice mail from an unknown number. Rolling his eyes at what he assumed was about his car’s extended warranty, he dismissed them both.
Seriously, if they were doing any kind of research before making these spam calls, they would know that the majority of his cars’ warranties expired in the previous century. The two that were newer were still under the manufacturer’s warranty. The Tesla had the extended warranty with all the bells and whistles.
Helen met Reese at the little hotel restaurant across the street from the Cooper Stone building. He considered trying to convince her to go upstairs, but her excitement over getting her own office made him decide against it.
The same number called him two more times while they were at lunch. Both times they left a message.
After lunch, they walked across the street and Helen took Reese to see her new office. He had given her a large collage picture frame for Christmas. It was hung on one wall with pictures of her kids, Dean and Cheryl in it. She had added other pictures on the wall. The picture of Bunny’s sonogram was in a frame declaring Helen to be the Greatest Grandma of All Time sat on her desk.
He was proud of her for so many things. She was determined to continue going to the gym. The doctor had told her that if she was doing it before she was pregnant, she could continue to do it. Some activities might need to be modified, but the trainers and Pinky would work with her.
Helen was determined to finish her internship and get her degree. Arrangements were made for her to be able to work from home if needed. Frank and Geoff were both impressed with her work. She was quickly picking up their policies and procedures.
By the time that Reese left TRAAC, the same number had called two more times. With a little growl of annoyance, he dismissed the calls and messages. Since he was in town, he stopped at the two current job sites and then at the office. Pulling into the driveway at home, his phone rang again with the same unknown number.
There were very few people who had this number. Smirking at that thought, he amended it. Very few people outside of the family had this number. Which was why he was annoyed to be receiving so many spam calls today.
Clicking on the green button to answer the call, he decided that he was going to put an end to these annoying calls. He did everything that he could to keep his name and number off lists. Even all his business calls went through the office.
“Reese.”
