Chapter 166: Shopping

*Seventh General Order of the Navy – To talk to no one except in the line of duty*
The private plane landed at O’Hare airport early Tuesday afternoon. They all checked into the hotel suites that Reese had reserved. He pointedly looked at his daughter as he handed over her key card.
“This is *not* a floor party.”
She chuckled as she took the piece of plastic from her dad and grabbed her fiancé by the hand. “I promise not to have any water balloon fights if Dean promises not to set up any glitter bombs.”
“O, you can check.” Dean said handing over her suitcase and carryon bag. “I did *not* bring anything to do glitter bombs.”
“I believe you.” He told the teen. And he did believe her. For the most part. Mainly because she had been too nervous before they left to even think about glitter bombs.
To be perfectly honest, he would not be surprised if she had forgotten some of the bare basics.
A few hours later, Dean knocked on the door to Helen and Reese’s suite.
“What’s up, little princess?”
She grinned at her uncle, almost apologetically. “I forgot my toothbrush.”
“And you don’t like the freebie one that the hotel provides.” Reese concluded as he stepped back to let her come in. “Let me go call a car. Do you want to go by yourself? Or you want someone to go with you?”
He watched her debate it with herself and could tell that she wasn’t sure what the correct answer was.
“Oh! Are you going to the store?” Gigi asked as she stepped out of the room that she was sharing with the triplets.
“Yeah. I forgot my toothbrush.” Dean admitted.
“Thank God I’m not the only idiot. I forgot my brush. Do you mind if I go with you?” Gigi smiled at the teen and ignored the look that Reese was giving her.
Prior to them leaving, he had been teasing her about her packing style. Everything had been laid out on her bed and she had marked off each item on her printed checklist. On the list were two brushes and three combs. And she had still packed everything down into a single suitcase and carryon bag. Without a doubt, she had the method down.
“Yeah.” Dean grinned and with her soft sigh of relief, Reese understood.
Gigi had not forgotten the brush. She was helping the nervous teen.
“You got your card?” Reese asked as he picked up the phone on the small desk.
Dean nodded as he requested the concierge order a town car for his nieces. He decided that it was easier to label them both as his niece than to have one as his nanny and the other his niece. Obviously, the teen was too old for a nanny. But not to be embarrassed.
As they walked out of the hotel, a sleek black town car was waiting for them. The doorman stepped out and opened the door for them.
“Watch your heads, ladies.” The older man offered as he held the door open.
They both thanked him as they slid inside.
“Have a good time, ladies.” The man said as he shut the door.
“Where would you like to go?” the uniformed driver asked from the front seat.
“Tasty.” Gigi murmured as she took in the very masculine woman behind the wheel.
Dean couldn’t help but laugh. “Is there a Target or Walmart nearby?”
“Both. Do you have a preference?” she replied as she started to pull out into traffic.
“The one furthest away?” Gigi suggested and Dean laughed harder.
“Sorry.” Dean laughed harder. “My *cousin* thinks you’re hot.”
“I said tasty, not hot.” Gigi corrected.
There was a light chuckle that came from the front seat. “Thanks, you look tasty yourself. I’m sure my husband would agree.”
“That’s my luck!” Gigi huffed. “All the good women are either taken or straight.”
Dean doubled over in laughter as the car came to a stop at a stoplight. “Or both!”
“Shut up.” Gigi grinned. “You know, eating is only cheating if you’re on a diet.”
Dean swiped at the tears filling her eyes as she continued to laugh.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” The driver offered from the front seat as she began to cross through the intersection.
“I’m just messing with you.” Gigi told her. “I mean you are hot, but I don’t mess with married women.”
Laughing in the front seat as she directed the car to the turn lane and waited for a green arrow. “I don’t take any of the offers that I get seriously. And I get plenty of them.”
When light changed, they turned onto the side street, then she slid into the parking lot and pulled up to the front door.
“Do we just call for a return ride when we’re done?” Dean asked her as the car came to a stop.
Turning around, she handed over a business card. “I’ll go find me a spot to park.” She held up a paperback book about shifters. “Take your time.”
Once inside, Dean and Gigi found what they needed. And as it usually happened, they found things that they didn’t need. With a cart half full of items. Gigi headed to the book section, picking up a book she looked at Dean.
“Is this like what she was reading?”
Dean shook her head and grabbed a different book. “Get this one.”
“Is that like the one she had?”
“It’s in the same series. I saw she has the next one, this is the one after that.”
Gigi took the book and looked at it. “This says book seven.”
“There’s nine in the series.” Dean pointed to the other two books and then grabbed a box set of five books. “And five in this one. I like the author.” She admitted as she put the books in the cart.
“I saw that movie.” Gigi pointed to a popular book that had been made into a blockbuster.
“You’re missing half the story if you only ever watch the movies.” Dean told her friend as she grabbed that book and put it in the cart too.
“I just don’t like reading.”
“Then you haven’t found the right book yet.”
“And what did you really need to come to the store for?”
Biting her lower lip, Dean looked down at the floor, she spoke softly. “I’ve never… with a guy.”
“Ahhh… And you’re hoping to change that.” Gigi grinned and the younger woman nodded, still not looking up. “Personally, I think it’s overrated. But then again, I discovered girls and didn’t care about boys.”
“I like boys.” Dean admitted as she finally looked up. “Especially one.”
“Yeah. I’ve heard.” She grabbed the cart and pushed it towards the pharmacy, looking for condoms and the Plan B pill. “Come on.”
"You're not ging to tell my uncle...?"
"Not my place." Gigi assured her.
