Chapter 29: Sex Talk

*You’ve outgrown the old you. You’re uncomfortable because your old life doesn’t fit anymore. – Leighann Heil*

Reese pulled into the driveway and was glad to see that Dean was back home. He parked in his spot and went to open the door for Helen. She was nervous and he could tell. They walked to his front door with his hand at the small of her back.

He punched in the code to his door and pushed it open. Sitting on his couch, watching another slasher movie, was Dean.

“Hey, Uncle O- Miss Helen!” Dean squealed as she ran over and hugged the woman.

“Hi, did you have fun at the dance?” Helen asked hugging her back.

“I did. I had a blast. The idiot that dumped me had a miserable time. All the single chaperones and teachers spent all night hitting on Uncle Owen.” She smiled up at her uncle. “I so approve.”

“I’m glad I have the approval of my sixteen year old niece.” Reese said hugging the teen. “And we’ll discuss it later, go to bed.”

“OK, but-.”

“Dean.” Reese warned.

“Right. Thick thighs, freaky sex.”

“Denise Marie!” Reese said angrily.

“OK, OK, I’m going to my house and I’m going to text the princesses-” She was backing out of the door, grinning as Reese was glaring at her “- to tell them good night. Love you!”

“Teenagers.” Reese sighed. “Her mom is supposed to be back in February.” He picked up the remote and turned off the TV.

Helen laughed nervously. “I’ve been down that road before. Three times.”

Reese grabbed a couple of bottles of water from the fridge and returned to the living room. Handing one to Helen he guided her to the couch.

“Helen, I’m going to ask you some questions and I want you to be very honest with me.” He said and she nodded. “How many men have you been with?”

“Willingly?” she asked quietly as tears filled her eyes.

Fuck. Reese thought as he opened his arms to her. “Come here, honey.” He waited until she was nestled in his arms to answer her question. “Yes, honey, by your choice.”

“Just my husband.” She answered softly.

“And how many men do I need to kill?”

She looked up at his face and tried to tell if he was joking but he looked very serious.

“How many men hurt you?” he asked.

“One. My stepbrother. He’s in jail.”

“At least I know where to find him. Which jail?”

“State.”

“For what?”

“Kidnapping, rape and assault of a minor. Not me. His mother swears that he’s innocent and keeps throwing money at lawyers.”

“Is she having any luck?”

“No.”

“Good.” He squeezed her tight and kissed the top of her head. “How long has it been since you were with a man? And you wanted to be?”

“JD is nearly eighteen.”

“Did you want to have sex with your husband? Or did you feel obligated?”

“Probably more obligated. I’ve never really wanted to have sex.”

“Is that because of what happened to you with your stepbrother?” he asked quietly and she nodded. “How old were you when it started?”

“Ten.” Helen said as the first tear hit his arm.

“I will never ask you to do anything that you don’t want to. At any point in time, you can tell me to stop and we will stop. No matter what we’re doing. Even if we’re just sitting here talking.”

She nodded and he tipped her face up to him and kissed her. He nibbled on her bottom lip before running his tongue along her lips. His gentle touch was nothing like she had ever experienced before and she sighed into his mouth.

Lifting his head, he smiled down at her dazed look. Gentle fingers moved through her hair before stroking her cheek. Shifting them, Reese pulled her into his lap so that she was straddling his legs. Helen braced her hands on his shoulders.

“I want you to think of a word, any word, that you can say at any time and I’ll know to stop what I’m doing. Pick a word that you can use if we’re out somewhere and you don’t feel comfortable. If you ever use it in public, we’ll go somewhere that you feel safe.”

Helen thought for a moment. She tried to think of something that would have meaning that she could use. Smiling at him, she said “Mermaid.”

“I like it.” He said. “Kiss me, my sweet mermaid.”

Uncertain of herself, she hesitated. Then she leaned down and pressed her lips to his. Sitting back up, she blushed.

“If you want me to stop, what do you say?” he asked her.

“Mermaid.” She whispered.

“Good girl.” His eyes stayed on hers as he reached up and undid the tie on the side of the dress.

“I’m not very pretty without clothes.” She whispered when she realized what he was doing.

“I’m sure that you’re beautiful without clothes.” He said softly keeping his eyes on hers.

“Bob would never touch me unless the lights were off.”

“He’s an idiot.” She started to move her hands off his shoulders. “Leave them there.”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Be more specific.” He said softly as he moved to the tie inside the dress.

“Me… I’m….”

“Beautiful. Kind. Sweet. Intelligent.” He recited her attributes and she started to move her hands to cover herself. “If you want me to stop, you know what to say.”

“You aren’t even looking at what you’re doing.” She pointed out as he pushed the two parts of the dress far apart.

“Me looking isn’t what I’m trying to achieve.” He pushed the shoulders onto her arms.

“Please.”

“Please, what?”

“Mer-mermaid.”

Instantly, his hands stopped and then the dress was pulled back together. He smiled at her.

“Good girl.” He whispered as he pulled her to him. Cradling her to him, he kissed her hair.

“You’re not mad at me?”

“No, honey, I’m not. I wanted you to use your safe word so you knew that I meant it. You say Mermaid, and we’ll stop. No matter what. If you’re somewhere and you need me, just text me a mermaid, the word or the emoji, and I’ll be on my way to you.”

They sat in silence for a moment as she contemplated what he said.

“If I would not have said mermaid, how far would you have gone?”

“To be honest, I didn’t think that you would let me go that far.” He said against her hair. “I want to hold you for a while longer, then I’ll take you to your car.”

Smiling, she snuggled into his chest and closed her eyes. A few hours later, Reese woke up with his neck hurting. His cheek was still resting on her head. He cracked his neck a few times before toeing off his boots and taking Helen’s shoes off. Carefully standing up, he walked down the hall and laid her on the bed. Removing his belt, he slid in behind her and covered them both up.
