Chapter 136

NATHAN

Stephan called me. My mother wanted to confirm my presence at the dinner to plan the year-end celebrations. My head was too full to think about it, especially since it involved someone other than myself.

The day had started infernally. For some reason, people couldn't do their jobs properly. I seemed to be surrounded by incompetents.

The urgent problem Miss Dempsey had come to inform me about was bigger than I had imagined, and it was making my head boil.

For years, Ryan has been one of the best, if not the best, in hardware development. But one of our projects had gone terribly wrong in its final production phase. After seeing the reports and the million-dollar expenses, I felt like firing every damn engineer.

Stress was taking over me, making me contemplate retirement before turning thirty. And then there was Kate, persistently lingering in my mind, popping up out of nowhere. Our relationship was highly unstable, and it needed to end.

I wished she still worked with me; maybe she could help me deal with the stress. But it would probably be the opposite.

I glanced at the clock on my wrist; it was almost her lunchtime. And she was probably still mad at me, but it was me who should be pissed off about the damn trip.

Did she expect me to find it normal for her to travel alone with another man? She must be kidding.

I needed to ask her if she would join me for the dinner, and that meant revealing our relationship to my family. I didn't know how she would react to that.

There was only one way to find out.

"Hello?" She answered on the third call.

"Are you busy?"

"Now you want to talk?"

"Not about that subject."

"What happened?"

"Well, now that we have a relationship, I can't hide it from my family anymore. My mother usually hosts a dinner to plan the year-end celebrations. And it's expected that my girlfriend will accompany me since I assume we'll be together during the celebrations."

"You assume we'll be together? Is that supposed to sound like an invitation?"

"Will you come?"

"If you say please."

"Yes or no?"

"Okay… I'm not sure if I understand. You freaked out because I had a business trip; you stopped talking to me, and now you want me to pretend like nothing happened."

"Yesterday, you left without even telling me."

"I clearly said I was leaving."

"I didn't think you were serious. Damn, I had other things on my mind too; I have a huge problem at the moment."

"What happened?" Her tone changed to concern.

"Nothing you can help with, my dear; maybe if you still worked here…You could help me in another way."

"Something big?"

*"Definitely." *

"God! I wasn't talking about that, you pervert."

"Don't worry, I'll handle it as always. I'm just a little tired."

"I know you will; you're the best at everything."

"Damn, you're getting me hard by saying that."

"I better not catch you leaving your office if you're serious."

"Then I guess I can ask Miss Dempsey to bring me something to eat."

"Alright, Mr. Ryan, but I don't think she'll find anything as wet as what I have here." Damn, the idea made my mouth water.

"You really gave me another huge problem here."

"I wish I could help with that."

"How much longer do you have?"

"Huh?"

"For lunch?"

"Don't even think about it. I have a lot of work, and so do you."

"I haven't had lunch yet, and I know exactly what I want to eat." She took a deep breath.

"I'll never answer your calls during work again."

"I have a meeting shortly, and now I have another problem in my pants. I shouldn't even bother calling you, but I guess it wouldn't make a difference since you're always on my mind."

"That's good to hear. Good luck in the meeting; don't be rude to whoever caused you trouble. As for the dinner with your family, we still need to talk."

"You can't run away from this."

"Maybe not. But it's complicated."

"See you later."

"I'll find you."

"Where?"

"I've already told you; I'll find you."

"Collins?"

"Goodbye, Ryan."

The meeting made me even more stressed, and I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to solve the project problem. My patience had completely run out.

I was waiting for a call or a message from Kate; it was almost six o'clock. Being patient seemed impossible when it came to her.

In the late afternoon, I was informed by Ryan's security that she was coming up. The only ones left at this time, besides me.

She entered my office, and her presence made me relax a little. She was wearing a tight black dress, slightly below knee-length, accentuating her enticing and curvaceous body while remaining elegant.

Her stiletto heels echoed until she stopped beside me.

"You look a little worn out." His lips curved up a little with a pitying smile.

"Very kind of you."

I stood up, pushing the chair back behind me and gaining a few inches above her. I grabbed her hip and pulled her closer to me, eliminating the space between us.

"I suppose you missed me," I said, admiring her beautiful face before kissing her slowly and deeply. "I want to fuck you now."

"You insist on being romantic." She smiled, biting her lip.

"Do you feel how much I want to be romantic?" I asked, pressing my erection against her.
