Chapter 74
KATE
I knock on the bedroom door, still confused. What is John doing here? Good heavens! And why did he tell my dad he was my boyfriend? I haven't accepted his proposal yet. Is he trying to pressure me? I didn't need another problem. I just wanted to get away from everything. Forget everything.
The doorknob turns, and soon he stands before me. Holy shit! Impossible. I can't believe he's here and shit, in this manner. I swallow hard, my eyes resting on the part where the towel is tucked around his waist. I blink as he rubs another towel through his hair. The only thing I can do is turn around, but he stops me, grabbing my arm.
"Here? No!" I say with closed eyes. Trying not to explode and scream, feeling the anger heat up my body.
"Come in. Let's talk."
"No. No! How many times do I have to say it?"
"I came here to talk to you."
"We have nothing left to talk about."
"Come in, Kate."
"Let me go." I stare at his hand holding my wrist.
"I promise it'll be the last time. Just let me speak."
"We've already had our last conversation."
"Please?" He asks. I gaze at his face, his intense blue eyes seeming desperate. End this, Kate.
"The last time." I say before entering.
The hotel room wasn't anything like Ryan and all his money and luxurious house. The place was simple, but I was too stunned to care about that now.
"Sit down."
"I'm fine and don't have much time." I try not to get distracted, but it's almost impossible not to look at his body.
"Kate, I know that lately, everything's been going very wrong..."
"Why won't you admit that you've been acting like a jerk?"
"We've already talked about this, and you know how I feel about someone wanting what is..."
"Is that why you came here? To continue treating me like one of your possessions? Then, goodbye Ryan."
"Shit! Sorry. You know I'm like this. Maybe I can't change it. What I mean to say is that's why I came here, I want you to know that I'm willing to try it your way, because I can't stand being without you, or seeing you with someone else." Huh? Am I hearing this right? He said try it my way? My way... What is my way?
"Are you crazy?"
"When I went to Ryan today, and saw you weren't there, I went to your house without thinking twice. I had no idea what I was going to say to you, but I knew I'd do anything possible to make you come back. When your friend said you were here, I thought all was lost and I was lost too. I felt stunned just imagining what it'd be like without you. I've been suffering without you all these days, and I can't, nor want to continue like this." What is he trying to tell me? That he likes me? Or that he wants to sleep with me again? "Say something."
"What you're trying to do is convince me to have casual sex with you?"
"I said I'm willing to try it your way."
"And how do you think my way is?"
"You said you wanted more, and that you felt more for me."
"Wait, you think I want a relationship with you?"
"No?" He looks bewildered.
"You think because I like you, knowing all you want is to have sex with me, is going to make me want a relationship with you?"
"I just said I can't be without you. And you think it's just because I want to sleep with you?"
"I think so."
"You're wrong."
I shrug.
"You're by far the biggest jerk I've met. A controlling maniac, egotistical, arrogant who thinks he's the king of the universe and fucks with any pretty face who spreads her legs for you. Do you really think that me liking you, even just a little, is going to make me stay with you?"
"I am all that, yes. But then why did you cry if you like me so little?"
Right. He's going to use that against me. Low blow, Ryan.
"Because I'm an idiot for liking a guy like you. But I'm not so stupid to let you fool me again."
"I'm the fool to think it would be easy in any way to have you back. You always complicate everything."
"I complicate? You're just used to your money always solving situations at the snap of your fingers."
"Damn! What a woman..."
"Bold? Idiotic? What more?"
"You don't need to throw these things in my face, I know who I am, what I have, and what I do."
"I do need to. I've realized that no one but me has the courage to tell you that."
"Alright. You're right. I won't continue arguing. I just want to know what you're going to decide."
"What should I decide? Continue being stupid?"
He huffs, annoyed.
"I found it very funny the part about telling my dad that you're my boyfriend. It was hilarious. I mean, it could be true, if you were who you said you were." I provoke.
He takes a step forward with a serious expression, closing the distance between us.
"You want to play this game of trying to irritate me now?" He's so close I can smell his fragrance. I try to control myself. I observe his wet chest, covered by a few drops of water. No, no, no I will not waver. I close my eyes and swallow hard, searching for reason.
"You have to stop stalking me." I say, before turning my back on him and heading towards the exit. "Goodbye Ryan." I twist the doorknob.
"This conversation isn't over." He says.
"It is now." I face him. His body still attracting me, calling me. Leave, Kate. I close the door, after exiting. Believing to be safer.
I rush down the stairs, feeling relieved. I take a deep breath. He came here... I don't understand. This story of trying it my way, he definitely went crazy.
