Chapter 167

KATE

Nathan made me accompany him to Ryan on Thursday since I insisted on staying home during the week before the trip. Bethany was sitting right where my seat used to be, which reminded me of the madness I did on the night she showed up at his apartment.

Some receptionists I already knew treated me as if I were Mrs. Ryan herself. At this point, everyone already knew about us. I saw at least a dozen articles about us with photos from the charity event. I realized that being with Nathan would make people treat me differently, and I still didn't know if I liked that.

We entered his office.

"I don't know why I wanted you to come here. It's so strange," I said.

I sat in the chair in front of his desk. The office brought back good memories for me.

"Strange?"

He remained standing.

"Yes. People here know I worked for you."

"We both know what really happened."

"Yes, unprofessional behavior." I laughed.

"I never favored you."

"No? Aren't orgasms a form of favoritism?" I teased.

"I appreciate your sense of humor."

He approached, leaning against the table next to me, crossing his arms over his chest.

"You technically harassed and fucked an intern. Do you think that was an appropriate stance for the great Nathan Ryan?"

"I like hearing you say 'great' and my name in the same sentence."

I stood in front of him.

"Why did you ask me to come here?" I asked, adjusting his tie.

"Because your idea of spending the week apart was the worst you've ever had."

"We're traveling tomorrow, so it would only be three days. I also had some things to do before the trip."

"You're saying you didn't miss me?" He arched a blond eyebrow.

"Every day." I kissed him lightly, just grazing our lips.

"So, let's do this: when we leave here, we'll go to your place, get your things for the trip, and then go to mine."

"Okay."

"Is that it? No objections? Perhaps I was mistaken, and you'd make a good submissive."

"What do you mean by that?"

"I thought about what you told me during the trip. About your curiosity."

"And?"

"I haven't done that again since what happened."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..."

"No. It's okay. I decided I could show you a little if you're interested."

"Well... It makes me nervous."

"I would never hurt you."

"I know. I trust you. I'm not afraid; it's just something I've never experienced."

"So?"

"It also turns me on." To think what he could do to me....

"Is that a yes?"

"Yes." I bit my lower lip.

"Tonight, then?"

"Wait, did you already plan this?"

"Maybe."

"Asshole! You brought me here exactly for this." I kissed him again, holding his face. "I like knowing that you're planning what we'll do together."

"I admit, I spend a lot of time thinking about the things I can do with you."

"We should stop. I'll let you work, and I ask you not to be an asshole because I'll be taking up Miss McCartney's time."

"Is that what you're going to do? Overstep my authority and occupy my employees' time?"

"You should get used to it."

His lips stretched into a smile before his expression turned serious.

"Have you considered coming back to work here?"

"No. No chance."

"Why?"

"Because you're an asshole as a boss."

"I thought after what happened..."

"I'm not giving up my job, Nathan. My boss and the company had nothing to do with what happened; they supported me all the way."

"You could..."

"What?"

"Forget it."

I left him in his office. It seems like he had a lot of work to do before the year-end holiday. I took the elevator to Meg's floor.

It didn't take me long to find the smiling blonde.

"Kate!" She stood up from her desk to hug me. "I heard you were here. How are you?"

"I'm fine. I expected to find you when I arrived."

"I'm working with the new marketing director now."

"That's great."

"Yes. So... is it true? You and Ryan?"

"Yes."

"I knew it! I hated myself for changing my phone and losing your contact; I really wanted to send you a message. I chewed all my nails out of curiosity since that photo of you two in that restaurant came out. But I was sure when I saw you at the party. God! You looked stunning in the photos!" she said excitedly.

"Okay. Calm down." I smiled, trying to calm her down. "We should have coffee."

"I have work. Lunch?"

"We can go to the break room."

"I think my new boss won't like that."

"He can complain to his boss, then."

"You don't know him; he really would do that."

"Okay. Maybe another day."

"Yes, Mrs. Ryan," she said suggestively.

"Absolutely not." We laughed.

"I can't believe you actually found out what's in those pants."

"And I can't believe you said that."

"Well, it's crazy! One day you were just an employee, and now you're his girlfriend. It gives every woman some hope. I thought that kind of thing only happened in movies."

"Believe me, it's not that easy."

"I can imagine. It must be difficult to have to sleep next to that man."

"Okay, maybe you're right about that."

"I can't even imagine it without feeling like my head will explode. But I'm happy for you. You'll have to tell me everything later."

I could never tell her everything.

"Alright. Let's plan something; I'll send you my number to your work email. Now I'll let you work. It was good to see you, Meg."

"Good to see you too, Kate. And don't forget to invite me to the wedding."

"God! You're crazy," I said, hugging her before leaving. A wedding? Seriously? That's crazy. I don't think I'll ever be ready for that.

In the late afternoon, we did exactly what Nathan planned. We stopped at my house and then went to his. I was feeling butterflies in my stomach the whole time, a mix of curiosity, nervousness, and excitement.

Until then, I hadn't stopped to think if this was really safe. I trusted Nathan, even after what he told me. And if he could feel comfortable doing this, it meant he had overcome or at least was trying.

My heart was beating uncontrollably in my chest when the elevator doors opened in his apartment.

He stopped in the middle of the room.

"Come here."

I walked up to stand in front of him.

"Do you really want to try this?"

"Yes, if you want to too."

He nodded.

"We'll just try some things, but still, I want you to follow some rules."

"Rules?"

"The first one is not to interrupt me."

"Okay."

"I want you to call me 'sir' while we're doing this, and you must choose a safe word."

"Will I need it?"

"It's necessary, even if you don't use it. I want you to meet me upstairs at seven, at the third door down the hall. Naked."

"Yes."

"Yes?"

"Yes, sir." I had to hold back from rolling my eyes.

"One last rule: if you don't obey my orders or act insolently, you will be punished."

Punished? How? He left with a slight, wicked smile on the corner of his mouth. I watched him go up the stairs, feeling excitement take over my body.
