Chapter 39
KATE
When he returns from the bathroom, he approaches, trying to touch my hair.
"Don't touch me," I say. He smiles.
"Are you annoyed?"
"Go to hell!"
"Did I hurt you?"
"You literally fucked me, you son of a bitch," I say, seething with anger.
"Maybe you'll think twice before disobeying me now."
I stand up, feeling a slight pain in the middle of my legs. I walk to the bed, throwing myself onto it, and burying my face in the pillow. I hear him moving around the room before I feel his hand on the inside of my thigh and then on my butt.
"You're not satisfied? Wasn't it enough?" I murmur, pulling the sheet to cover my body.
"Kate..." he caresses my hair.
"Let me rest."
"Are you angry?"
"I don't want to talk to you now or look at you. Leave me alone."
"Okay."
What does he expect? That I'll be happy when he prevents me from orgasming? I feel him get out of bed and hear his footsteps until the sound disappears. I knew this had been a game to him, trying to punish me, like he had done before in my house. But was that really what I wanted? To just be a toy for him?
He opens the door for me. As always, he looks impeccable. Absurdly handsome, dressed in a black suit. His hair is perfectly styled.
"You look beautiful," he says, but I don't pay much attention.
"Thanks. Shall we go?"
"Don't you want to talk?"
"About what?"
"I thought you'd still be angry."
"I don't want to talk about it now."
This dinner seemed like a terrible idea now, but it was part of the job.
"And I don't want you to be angry with me now."
"I'm always angry with you because you're a jerk."
"Kate..."
"Did you receive the invitation with the address?"
"Yes. James brought it." I nod and turn my back, heading towards the elevator. I hear his footsteps behind me. I felt frustrated and angry. I know he wanted to punish me for that. I don't mind rough sex, but not letting me come? Does he expect me to let him do that to me? If I'm with him just for the sex, it makes no sense. I thought he enjoyed giving me pleasure. That's what made everything make a little sense.
"What are you thinking?"
"Nothing, Ryan."
"Talk to me, Kate." I ignore him. The doors open and we head towards the exit. Looking around, I don't see the car we're using for the trip or his driver.
Nathan passes by me and heads toward what I think is a black Ferrari. Shit! Really? Taking the key from the valet, he unlocks the doors and then turns to me.
"Aren't you coming?"
"Seriously?" I approach and he opens the door for me.
"I felt like driving tonight."
"Show-off." I roll my eyes and see him smile before he gets in. He walks around the car and gets in.
During the trip, I get lost staring out the window at the beautiful city lights. I feel Ryan's gaze on me, but he remains silent. We leave the city and enter a path with many curves and trees.
After a while, I see a large lake. As we get closer, I can see a mansion in front of it. We pass through a gate, and there are security guards on the property and numerous cars parked in front of the house.
After parking, Ryan takes my hand to lead me up the stairs to the entrance. I find his gesture strange and stare at his profile. You're not the gentleman type, Ryan.
There are some people at the entrance and more security guards. We enter the house. There's no one here that I really know, except for Nathan. His eyes are on me.
"What?" I ask. He approaches to speak in my ear.
"I want to kiss you," he says. And I want to punch his perfect face. I force a fake smile.
"It's funny to hear you say that. I would find it more normal if you said you wanted to fuck," I reply. He smiles.
"I always do," he says, winking and making my panties wet.
"Behave, Ryan. I've had enough for today."
I spot Mr. Phillips talking to someone in front of us. He notices our presence and comes towards us. Nathan puts his hand on my back, and I narrow my eyes at him, but he shrugs.
"Unprofessional," I murmur, moving away.
"Ryan!" Mr. Phillips approaches, accompanied by a young blonde. They shake hands.
"Miss Collins," he offers me his hand, which I accept.
"Intelligent and beautiful, Ryan, you have chosen well," he says, putting his hand on my back again.
"I agree," Ryan says. Alright, Ryan, I'll let it pass since no one here knows us.
"Allow me to introduce my daughter, Stella. Stella, this is Nathan Ryan."
"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Ryan," she greets Nathan with an eager look. Why do all the women on the planet have to fall at his feet?
"And this is Miss Katherine Collins, she works with him."
"Miss Collins."
"Miss Phillips," I shake her hand. She wears a wine-colored dress. She was probably younger than me, around nineteen. There was a smile on her face the whole time, and honestly, it made me a little nauseous. Maybe it was the whole situation. I need a strong drink. I'm not in the mood to watch her drool over the jerk Ryan.
Mr. Phillips begins to talk about his daughter's studies, trying to emphasize how good she is at everything, which makes me even more nauseous. A woman approaches him, requesting his presence somewhere, and he leaves, leaving the girl with us. She tries to keep a conversation with Nathan, who offers her all his attention. I don't need to witness this. I look around, looking for a waiter. I turn to the two of them.
"Excuse me," I say. Nathan looks at me with a strange look. I smile and leave them. It was exhausting to see all the women drooling over him.
I pass by some people and see a waiter. I wait for him to come to me. When I go to grab the glass from the tray, someone takes it before me.
*Bryan! What is he doing here?*
"I'm so lucky," he says with a huge smile.
"Bryan! How?" I can't help but smile, it's a relief to see a familiar face.
"Let's get out of here," he says, handing me one of the glasses and taking my hand. I follow him to a space where there's hardly anyone, still trying to understand what he's doing here.
"This is quite a surprise to find you here."
"I could say the same thing."
"If you're here, I assume my cousin is here too."
"Yes, he's here on a business trip."
"I wish I had the luck my cousin has, to have your company. I'm also traveling for business, but alone."
"Tell me these dinners aren't always this boring?"
"Most of the time. I suppose you don't know anyone here."
"You suppose correctly." There was something about him that made me feel at ease.
"Have I mentioned how beautiful you look?"
"Thank you. You're not too bad yourself."
"Was that a compliment?"
"I think so."
"Don't you think it's too much of a coincidence that we ran into each other here?"
"Yes. Absurd."
"Maybe it's a sign. So, I feel compelled to ask if you're doing anything later?"
"I have to go back to the hotel, we're leaving early tomorrow morning to go home."
"Can I take you there?" he says, placing his hand on my back. I could read his intentions.
"I think..."
"Your boss." Bryan nods his head toward him, and I look in his direction. I see Nathan walking towards us with an unhappy expression.
"Is he in a good mood today?" Bryan asks, laughing.
"His unpredictable mood is never reliable," I murmur, and we chuckle softly before Nathan stops next to me with an arrogant air.
"Bryan."
"Nathan, how are you doing?" They greet each other with only a nod of the head, and I wonder if they're really from the same family.
"Well," Nathan turns to me. "I need to talk to you, Miss Collins."
"Okay, Mr. Ryan. Excuse me, Bryan."
"Of course, beautiful."
