CHAPTER 65: HAPPY
Julian didn’t know how Juan would react when he reaches her house but he was prepared and with the tactics his mother and sisters gave him, he was ready to blow her parents' minds away.
He also knew that Juan’s family wasn’t affluent and had a humble background, so he didn’t buy expensive gifts but decided to buy health supplements and jewelry for Pearle.
So, when he saw how they loved the gifts, he was relieved and thanked his relatives for the good advice. He was a bit sad that he didn’t get to share the room with Juan but because he had not engaged her or married her yet, he was lucky that they allowed him to live with them.
On this night, Juan found herself in her parents’ bedroom being interrogated strongly by Pearle who wanted to know more about Julian since she couldn’t ask much from him.
“I met his mother first when I went mountain climbing to find some plants to upgrade the farm. I was ……………”
Juan took her time to narrate how she met Eve and the things that happened after that. The two were shocked by this revelation but the more they heard the narration, the more they liked this family.
It was Eve’s fault that she decided to set her son with Juan without Juan’s consent but they were relieved that in the end it all worked out and Julian had feelings for
Juan and was true to her.
“So, she liked you before you turned out like this?” Pearle wanted to make sure that she heard that part correct.
Juan looked at her mother with smiling eyes, “umm, that is why I decided to give Julian a chance. She didn’t look at me with those disgustful eyes of pity. She was really true to me, so I didn’t give her a cold shoulder.”
“She is truly a unique person. Since they treat you like family then it is okay. I hope that one day we will meet but that should wait until you two are engaged and there are some signs that you will spend the rest of your lives together,” Pearle said as she held her daughter’s hands in hers.
Juan was happy to hear that, she wondered when the young man will propose. There was no way that she was going to propose, that little boy was going to do all the work and she was going to wait until he proposes.
“Umm, I believe him. I just have to see when he will propose and how things will move forward.”
“So, did you tell him about the farm?” Randall asked as he was worried about this issue.
Juan looked at her dad and then her mom before flashing a confident smile at them, “I will not tell him a thing until he is powerful enough to protect the two of us. The fewer people who know about this, the better. Besides we have been together for like three months so he needs to wait.”
Randall was happy with this statement; he didn’t want to see his daughter getting into trouble because her secret was exposed to many people.
“That is good then, you better keep it that way.”
“It’s late, you should go and check up on Julian and make sure that he is not lacking anything,” Pearle urged as she chased her daughter away.
Juan kissed her parents’ goodnight before going to check on Julian who was sulking in his room as he couldn’t be with Juan for longer. Juan didn’t spend a lot of time in Julian’s room but left after kissing her boyfriend.
The next day, life was so good and with one more person in the house, it was very lively in the house. Julian got along with her parents and Juan was over the moon. Sometime in the afternoon on that day, Pearle sent Juan to go and run an errand and she left Julian at home.
What Juan didn’t know was that Julian had been dying to be with the Keogh’s alone and take on that step he had been dying to take for a while.
So, when Randall saw how nervous Julian was, he had a feeling that the young man had some things to say to them so he called him for a drink so that they may have a chat freely.
“If you have things to talk about, just go ahead and say it,” Randall said as he looked at the antsy young man.
Julian took a seat and looked nervously at Randall who was the father of the woman he loved so dearly and for everything to work, he knew that he needed to go through with this otherwise he will never be able to be with the love of his life.
“I am sorry that I just came here unannounced but I wanted to see the parents who raised such a beautiful woman. I ………………” Julian poured his truthful and sincere feelings into Juan’s parents.
The Keogh’s couple listened attentively to the young man and since they already liked him; they were very serious as they listened to him.
“So, what are you trying to say, young man?” Randall asked as he looked at Julian sternly.
At this point, Randall knew the real reason why Julian was here, and deep down in his heart, he was very proud that Julian had manners and was respectful of his elders.
“I came here to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage,” he said as he looked at the Keogh’s couple with firm eyes.
The two looked at each other with knowing eyes but they were not going to make things easy for him at all.
“So, if we were to agree, how will you take care of our daughter? You are just a student after all,” Randall asked as he looked at Julian with querying eyes.
Julian knew that this was going to be a problem but luckily he came prepared, “I know that I am a student but I have already started doing something on my own. I know that my family doesn’t lack money but for Juan, I will work hard and give her a bright future so that she may not suffer.”
Julian spoke convincingly to the Keogh couple and after spending some time with Julian, they knew that the young man was good for their child and they didn’t want to make things more difficult for him.
“I hope that you will keep your end of the bargain and always make her happy. If you ever make her sad, even though we have nothing, I can assure you that we will do anything to get back at you,” Randall made his statement as he made Julian aware that he was not a pushover.
