Chapter 19

Jasper's pov.
This was the first time I went into battle with other emotions, and my attention was always divided between Lsabella. I thought it was absurd, why would I focus on this woman like that?
I noticed the solid Xavier next to her, yes, that's right, I started paying attention to Lsabella because of my damn brother.
My brother actually became a Beta willingly for a woman, and they even established a psychic link because of it.
Thinking about this made me even more annoyed, and I couldn't help but go and interrupt the exchange between Lsabella and Xavier.
It is possible to establish a mental link between rogues, especially with the hierarchical relationship between them, where the superior can feel the injury or even death of the subordinate, so there is a loophole in my plan. Once word gets through, the plan to capture the bridge will be thwarted, so we have to be quick.
I've seen Lsabella's speed, her she-wolf advantage makes her more dexterous than male wolves, and she's best suited for the task of capturing the bridge, but I didn't add her to my list, and my face flashed in front of me that her injury was ghastly white. I don't know why, probably because I believed I could succeed too.
Damn, I should not have trusted this woman. Lsabella like a white light, she swept past us and soon flashed across the other side of the bridge.
Damn it!
I led the other warriors in immediate pursuit.
I smelled grease, and when I looked up I saw that Lsabella had snapped the neck of the rogue holding the torch.
I admit she was strong.
I withdrew my mind and joined the fight.
"Declan!" I mind-linked Beta: "Lead the hordes and hurry up and follow!"
I hissed and leaped up, meeting the lunging rogue in the air.
On landing, I had an extra head in my mouth, which I casually spat aside.
The rogues all felt threatened and began to retreat back toward the forest.
I tilted my head back and let out a wolf howl, "Don't leave anyone alive!"
Lsabella's pov :
I felt the rogues in front of me all begin to chicken out, but I kept a deadly eye on them for fear that any rogue not afraid of death would want to risk throwing a torch onto the bridge.
I yelled down toward Jasper, and he understood my concern.
Just at this gap, two wolves pounced towards me. I leaped up and snapped the neck of one wolf, the other wolf was swatted out with my palm, and I pounced over intending to give him another finish.
Just at that moment, I caught a firelight out of the corner of my eye. It was fast and ran in the direction of the bridge.
I immediately turned around and leaped up, pouncing and biting the rascal.
Just as I landed on the ground, there was another hissing sound behind me.
But I couldn't turn around in time.
Instead of feeling the expected pain, a muffled sound came from behind me.
Jasper bit off the wolf's neck.
False alarm, I reached my foot and stomped out the torch on the ground.
"Thanks."
I looked to Jasper and thanked him sincerely.
Jasper looked at me with the eyes of a wolf, he didn't have many expressions at this time, I could only see his panicked gaze and hear his ragged breathing.
"It's okay, be careful in the future."
The riverbank gradually ran out of sound, and the battle was almost over.
I could see the figures across the bridge, our fighters had arrived.
I waved my hand towards the opposite bank: "You can come over!"
Just at this instant, a black shadow passed by me, very fast, and in human form. I did not react in a split second, I was not very familiar with the fighters in this team.
I was just in a state of confusion, what was he doing?
Jasper had already gone far away when he suddenly yelled behind me, "Wait! Stop him!"
My body reacted quickly and lunged forward to bite his hind legs.
But this black shadow jumped up and finished transforming his form in the air, and as soon as he landed in wolf form, he had already pounced on the bridge.
Then something was thrown out of his hand.
Suddenly, fire exploded in the middle of the bridge, sparks splashed up, and ignited the bridge in an instant.
Damn it! That guy just now was a rogue! He got to the bridge before lighting the flame!
The wooden bridge has long been soaked with grease, this fire started very vigorously, a moment to obscure my vision.
Several tongues of fire were already rushing in front of me.
"Lsabella! Danger, come back!"
Although very reluctant, I listened to Jasper's advice and retreated back to the shore with remorse.
Our group couldn't get through.
"Damn! Those who dare to jump take advantage of it now!" Jasper's howling voice resonated through the riverbank.
Who had the courage to jump over when the flames were now burning several meters into the air?
I was so shocked that I panicked and activated the mind link: "Xavier! No jumping!"
"Lsabella, you're the one who broke your promise first."
In the tongues of fire that engulfed the night sky upward, I vaguely saw a running figure, a huge white wolf in a frenzy, he leaped through the sea of fire and pounced at my feet with all the sparks.
Xavier rolled twice on the ground to squash the fire on him.
I looked at the traces of black ash on his white fur and slapped him heartily: "Are you crazy!"
He laughed playfully and stood up, "You're not even close, how well matched we are."
Xavier just laughed a little and soon stood up with a blank face, I felt his mood shift.
"What's wrong with you? Are you hurt somewhere?"
"No." Xavier's tone remained very cold in the face of my concern.
This state of his was not right.
I suddenly realized something at this point, I had been worried about Xavier not wanting to die in the front, worried that he died in a certain charge, but how Xavier is not so worried about me?
I chose to participate in the raid after he left, despite my promise that I would trust him.
I promised I would rely on him, but I went on my own anyway.
I poked Xavier's arm with my finger, and he ducked after a few pokes.
Looks like I really pissed Xavier off.
I don't know how to coax an angry Xavier yet.
The night emboldened me, and without much thought, I subconsciously wrapped my arms around Xavier's waist from behind, then pressed my whole body against him, locking my arms tightly around his waist: "I was wrong, can you forgive me this time?"
Xavier's body obviously stiffened, and he stayed in place, not reacting to anything.
I waited for a while, and when he didn't respond, I let go of Xavier and turned him around to face me.
In the darkness I could see Xavier's burning red face, like a line of clouds in the sky after sunset, burning in the dimness of the last glorious glow.
But just for a moment, Xavier pulled his arm out of my hand in a desolate manner and walked away with a few steps.
I was left with a bewildered look on my face.
What's going on? Is he shy? What was he shy about?
There were a few more shouts behind me, and one after another, other wolves jumped over.
The fire was burning fast and the bridge was already overwhelmed. After a loud sound, the bridge broke completely and fell into the water. The shortcut to the Purple Moon Pack was cut off and our large group was not able to cross the bridge.
"Repair in place, take a headcount, and report back." Jasper's mood was much lower.
But there was no way around it. I took a seat aside, and Xavier hesitated and sat near me.
Xavier suddenly took out my short dagger and shoved it into my arms without allowing me to react: "Don't you have anything to say to me?"
I sincerely took Xavier's hand: "I apologize to you, I should not have promised to believe you on the one hand, and then rushed to the front of the line on the other. But you should understand why I did it, it's not that I won't follow the big group around the snowy mountains."
Xavier was still frowning, and I reached out toward him between my eyebrows and gave him a little nudge, and his expression eased.
"Besides, this is a war, not a vacation, and the likelihood of us encountering danger is the same on this battlefield. You are worried about me, I am equally worried about you..."
This is a very pretentious thing to say, my voice is getting smaller and smaller, I guess Xavier felt strange when he heard it.
"I understand." He suddenly hugged me all at once: "I'll try to make things better for you."
I was suddenly wrapped in his arms and felt very confused.
But Xavier's embrace was so warm and safe that my tense nerves from a night of fighting were soothed at this point.
Surprisingly, I didn't break free and just let Xavier hold me.
Wait a minute, how could the Alpha hide in Beta's arms? I pushed him away as soon as I could.
My gaze met Xavier's uncomprehending look and, scrambling to find an excuse for myself, I pretended to be angry and said.
"And you're talking about me? I ordered you not to jump over, why didn't you listen? How dare you disobey the Alpha's orders now?"
"...I'm sorry." Xavier's attitude was so good that he immediately lowered his head. Looking at the tips of his red ears, I couldn't bear to blame him.
Jasper finished his trim and walked to the middle of the group: "We're about to set foot in Purple Moon Pack territory. News of the bridge loss must be reaching Gary soon, too, so we'll have to decide where to attack soon."
Jasper scanned this bank of the river to see that there were less than a dozen of us.
"Purple Moon Pack's contact with us was cut off long ago, and the previous word was that he might be in Alpha's castle, or in the cemetery."
Jasper circled the two locations on the map, they were some distance apart.
I understood Jasper's point, we now have the numbers to only surprise and to defeat Gary in one blow, the rogue army is very loose, as long as the leader is defeated, they will scatter to save their own lives.
But there is still a distance between the two places, and once we choose one of them, it will be very difficult to rush to the other one after a defeat.
"So, I bet on the castle."
The crowd did not say anything, and after looking at each other for a few moments, they all nodded silently.
The odds were that they also believed that Gary was hiding in the castle at the moment.
"I'll bet on the cemetery."
Everyone's eyes fell on me, and I knew that I, as the only female in the group, looked very foolish to believe in love at this point in time. But I had listened to Wyatt's account of what happened earlier, and I believed that Gary, who had led a rogue army and risked the hostility of the entire Eastern Continent to avenge his lover, would not be hiding in the castle; I believed he was by his lover's side.
Jasper now looked at me coldly: "You look like a fool now."
"Gary also looks like a fool when he dares to fight back with a rogue."
Xavier also took my side: "I trust Miss Lsabella's judgment."
I also stood up and looked straight at Jasper, I wouldn't let go.
Jasper looked at both of us and he sneered, "Fine, then we'll split up, those who are willing to go to the cemetery with you will go to the cemetery and those who are willing to go to the castle with me will go to the castle, do you dare?"
What's so daring about that.
"Fine, it's decided."
