Chapter 9
Lsabella's pov :
I suddenly found that the quality of my three meals was much better than before. I remember that until the next morning my breakfast was just a small portion of bread and a glass of milk.
And the maid who brought me the meal changed, this maid also has very little guts, before I asked anything, she just put down the plate and ran away.
I don't know who was suddenly kind enough to improve my food. Anyway, it can't be Jasper, right? Although he should be the only one who has seen my breakfast and spilled it all over the floor at that time but is he really that kind?
I'm not bored in my room anymore today, I need to find something for myself to do.
I guess Jasper and Blood Moon Pack don't want me to learn about the terrain and fortifications of their territory, so I'll have to find a day job in the pack.
I'm very good at dealing with the clan, so if there's no way to make a good impression on Jasper, let's go interact with his people a little more.
I walked aimlessly along a large road, hoping to run into something.
Suddenly, a child flashed out from around the corner and as he dodged, he hit my leg.
The moment he fell backward, I bent down and caught him in my arms.
"I'm sorry!"
"It's okay."
As the child tilted his head and apologized to me, I noticed his face. It was a skinny little boy who looked only a few years old.
Yet he was carrying a basket full of herbs.
I already had a feeling what my first job of the day would be, I lifted the basket behind the boy and hung it on my arm as easily as a small bag.
The boy did not dare to stop me, but also did not want to accept this fact. He walked slowly with his head down at my side, half a dozen times before looking up at me briefly, I heard a faint "thank you".
This child is quite good.
I reached out with my other hand to take the boy's hand: "You're welcome, what's your name? Where are you going to carry the herbs?"
"My name is Matthew, my family is a herb picker, today my father is sick, I take his place to pick herbs for my mother."
"You picked so many herbs all by yourself? You're almost as good as Xavier." I felt so good about this job, and the day started off so well.
"I'll deliver it for you, I'm too idle with nothing to do."
With Matthew leading the way, we made a detour through the village and finally arrived at his house on a slope.
As soon as I entered the yard I smelled the scent of herbs, only to see a pot set up in the middle of the yard and a woman stirring a pot of soup and herbs at the side of the pot, the scent escaping and spreading throughout the yard.
"Mama!" Matthew flung himself into her mother's arms, and the boy's mother, though with some hesitation in her expression, put her arm around the child and made a quick curtsy toward me, "Miss Lsabella, thank you so much for your help with my son."
"You're welcome," I waved my hand and set the herb basket aside, "I heard your husband is sick, let me help you with any work you need, you don't have to be nervous, this is your Alpha taking care of you."
Jasper didn't even know I was here, it was just my little means of communication.
"Thank you for taking care of Mr. Jasper, but our job is to boil some herbal medicine, which is not really suitable for Miss Lsabella's honorable status."
"I've helped boil this kind of herbs before, I used to be a warrior too."
I picked up the basket on the floor and spread the herbs inside on a mat aside: "You have to dry it first, right? I know all these processes, so don't refuse me."
Kyra was very hesitant, but she also understood that there was no way to convince me: "Okay...thank you then."
I could sense that Kyra was an excellent wolf doctor, and she directed me to operate very skillfully, although with some shortness, but she did not let my operation slip.
"You should spread the herbs completely flat, not curled and spread out, or there will be places where they won't dry."
"Okay, I understand."
I followed Kyra's instructions to spread out the herbs one by one, and that's when I thought of Xavier. I hated this kind of menial work before I became an adult, and the herbs were laid out haphazardly with my mood. Xavier patiently reminded me a few times, and after I didn't make any changes, he followed me and laid out all the herbs I had laid out haphazardly.
When I found out about this at the time, I just thought that Xavier was really a serious and reliable person, had a good attitude towards people, and was a very nice person to be around.
But now I suddenly realize that Xavier simply doesn't have that much patience when it comes to other people. He treats both Kyra and Bain coldly, or at least keeps the right social distance, and doesn't do things that cross the line.
But the image in my mind of Xavier bending down to re-lay the herbs for me now seemed to have other feelings, Xavier really didn't seem to treat other people as seriously as he treated me.
But I soon realized that such a thought was wrong. To say the counterargument, Xavier is my Beta, wouldn't it be reasonable for him to do such a thing for me?
So...is he treating me special just because he's my Beta?
I desperately shook my head to shake those extra, strange thoughts out of my head.
Of course, it's like that, what else could it be...
"Miss Lsabella? We need to start boiling the herbs."
I scrambled back to my senses, "What do I need to do?"
I dutifully stayed in place and cooperated as Kyra tied a white apron around me.
"You will need to keep stirring the herbs while I add the ingredients."
"Okay," I took the spoon as the pot of boiling water tumbled over the sun-dried herbs, the scent of the herbs steaming up with the hot, humid vapor, smothering my eyes in a half-smile.
I was not one to give up in the middle of the day without Xavier by my side, and I did my best to stir the pot as Kyra had shown me how.
I probably stirred until my arms were sore, and the pot of herbs was finally ready. Kyra and I stood by the pot and she took a spoon and checked the quality of the herbs simmering.
I crossed my arms and was very pleased with my results, "I think I'm pretty talented, at least I can finish it well."
"Yes, Miss, you finished it really well."
"Even if you are complimenting me, I accept it happily."
"It's not a compliment, Miss Lsabella. Maybe I can't say you're perfectly ready to come to this job, but you're a really good learner compared to someone who comes up with a lot of holes."
I've probably heard a lot of compliments since I was a kid, and after all, I've worked hard enough to become an Alpha, but Kyra's compliment made me feel appreciated.
I could use it to brag to Xavier, who must not have expected me to learn the steps to make herbal medicine.
"Mama! Miss Lsabella!" Matthew, who was playing outside the door, suddenly ran into the yard.
"What's wrong, my boy."
"Mr. Jasper and Mr. Wyatt are here to visit us."
If running away worked, I would have to transform my form into a wolf right now and jump out of the backyard fence.
Kyra and I looked at each other, and she probably really believed what I said, thinking Jasper was with me. But I had lied, and now the lie was about to be exposed.
Jasper walked in first, and I saw a flash of surprise in his gaze after he locked his eyes on me.
And Wyatt, I think he had his surprise written right on his face.
Jasper and Kyra greeted each other, and then Jasper turned to me.
"This is Mrs. Kyra, she and her husband Tom are both wolf doctors at Blue Moon Pack. But Tom was accidentally injured a few days ago on his way to collect medicine, and now it's just Kyra making herbal medicine."
I was surprised that Jasper was talking to me about Kyra's family, I thought he would come up and expose my lies and reprimand me severely.
He really seemed to be a lot gentler with me after that night.
"Yes," I smiled at Kyra, "that's why I'm here."
"Thanks to Miss Lsabella's help, otherwise the medicine wouldn't have been done to standard today."
Jasper and Kyra were chatting about some confidential matters within the pack, and I hid on the other side of the yard to avoid suspicion. I took off my apron and straightened my hair in the pool water.
Wyatt walked over to the pool and sat down: "To be honest I was really shocked when I just saw you."
"Maybe you can't understand it, but I couldn't be bothered."
"I can understand, I am now impressed with you, I finally realize why you are a pack Alpha, you are really better than a lot of men."
Wyatt really looked at me with a look of admiration, and I tossed my curls in his direction.
"Yes, I am excellent."
We both looked at each other and laughed at the same time.
"Are you done resting? We're leaving." Jasper stood coldly in front of us and Wyatt was on his feet in an instant, "Yes! Sir."
I couldn't understand it, Jasper was in a good mood just now, how could his mood change for the worse after only a short while like this?
I wanted to tail Wyatt and ask him for advice on the techniques of understanding Jasper's emotional ups and downs, but Jasper gave Wyatt a few more looks and scared him to walk straight to the front.
Jasper and I were left behind instead. I was gradually walking side by side with him when he suddenly spoke.
"The food lately, are you still used to it?"
I immediately recalled my previous question, so it was really Jasper who found that someone had deducted my food? Is his mind so delicate?
"It's very good."
"Hmm."
He returned to silence and never spoke to me again on the way.
Charlotte stood at the entrance to Alpha Castle clutching a dozen papers, her eyes quenched with poison as she looked at me; if eyes could kill a person, she had probably lynched me many times.
"What are you doing here?"
Hearing Jasper's question, Charlotte immediately changed her face. She looked at Jasper meekly.
"This is the prophecy of the elders in recent days, I couldn't find you, so I waited at the door."
"Although I gave you a Beta position just to make it easier for you to get in and out, I told you long ago that you do not need to interfere in the daily affairs of the pack?"
Jasper disrespected Charlotte like this while I was still present, and Charlotte's expression changed in a flash.
But Jasper didn't care about that, he gestured for Wyatt to take the file from Charlotte's hand and left.
I could only also bypass Charlotte and follow Jasper at a fast pace.
At the moment when I brushed against Charlotte, I noticed her muzzle.
"Don't you go too far?"
