Chapter 57

Lsabella's pov.
In the next meeting, I heard something that really shocked me.
Although I had spent a good deal of time with Jasper before, I had hardly been exposed to anything on the Alpha level either.
Although Jasper had told me that his situation seemed glamorous but was actually very bad, I probably had no concept of it, something that I, the Alpha of a small wolf pack, was not exposed to for the time being.
I had previously thought that they were simply trying to push Jasper out of the presidency of the Alpha meeting and then put up the presidency that would give them the benefit of the doubt.
But most likely because Jasper was so difficult to tame and so difficult to overthrow, these apparently harmonious Alpha's actually came up with this solution.
"But how sure can we be about such a big thing? The Blue Moon Pack is after all the most powerful wolf pack on the East Continent."
"You don't have to worry about that, we have an inside man."
This startling news made me look up for a split second as Mr Eric looked at me calmly, "You don't need to know exactly who it is, in any case we are fully prepared."
"So what do you want from me? There doesn't seem to be any need for me in here at all."
"We need you to hold Jasper back so we can complete the coup, and also to persuade Xavier to become the new Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack. that would be best, after all, Xavier's identity would be best accepted for the Blue Moon Pack's clan as well."
So they had also hit on Xavier, did they think Xavier would be the one to take it well? I sighed mentally, they still didn't understand Xavier, he might not be worse than Jasper if he went crazy, after all, they had the same bloodline running through them.
But this was also an opportunity for us Blood Moon Pack to manoeuvre, if only I could use it to stall for time, not only until Xavier got back in time.
So I pretended to be impressed but scared, and shrank back nervously.
"But you're all stationed with troops on Blood Moon Pack's borderline, are you both trying to replace Jasper and swallow up Blood Moon Pack?"
"Don't worry," Mr Eric said confidently, "we're just putting on a show with Jasper, otherwise it won't be good if he guesses our plans."
With that from them, I was relieved that at the very least they still didn't think I was enough of a threat.
"So in case Jasper finds out, won't I die a horrible death?"
"No, he won't find out. Even if he finds out the truth, we'll take action and won't give him another chance to get back at us."
I looked up and swept my gaze over each of the Alpha's in front of me, the certainty written on their faces, as if they thought they would absolutely triumph in this plot.
But could Jasper really not have guessed this?
"And what is my specific task?"
"We'll let you know when we get to the point where we need to, you can leave now, after such a long meeting, you know how to lie to Jasper, right?"
I nodded, "I know."
I walked out of the tent and Jasper was literally waiting a short distance away, he saw me coming out and immediately came over.
"They didn't give you a hard time, did they?"
"No," not for the first time I had buried a secret in my heart long ago, I answered Jasper's concern very naturally, "I'm fine, I was just suspected of stealing the moonstone."
I bypassed Jasper and walked in the direction of the wolf pack territory.
Jasper was still trying to follow me and I looked back at him, "I'm returning to my territory, what identity do you want to take and follow me back."
Jasper stood still in place, but he pressed me undeterred, "Did you mean what you said before?"
"What did I say?"
"You said before that I could be let in if I came alone?"
"I said it was possible."
"Then it's possible, the next time I come, I'll be alone, will you let me in?"
With the contents of the meeting I had just finished still swirling around in my head, I heard Jasper's words and suddenly felt strange.
Why was he deliberately emphasising one person? What I had emphasized before was that he was trying to bring troops over like this now. But it struck me as odd when he said that; what Alpha of a wolf pack would be a guest in another pack's territory by himself? Except for me, who had been coerced in the first place.
Did he already know something? Was he testing me? Testing to see if I would side with him?
Now that was a real headache, I really didn't like these battles at the top of power, it was just between me and the other Alpha's and now there was a Jasper to add to the mix.
If he knew in advance that I had betrayed him, he probably wouldn't be waiting as calmly as he was now. I had seen how he looked when he was mad, he would have ordered the demolition of my wolf pack.
Jasper suddenly snapped a finger on my forehead.
"Does a request take you so long to think about? Don't bother, big deal, I won't go."
I was taken aback again by his sudden blow to my brow, holding my forehead and sucking in a breath of cold air.
"What's wrong? Did I hit my hand hard?"
Jasper said about to step forward to check.
I hurriedly pushed back a step, "I'm fine, just get out of here, I'm going back."
"Lsabella!"
Jasper called behind me again.
I twisted my head to look at him.
"Good night."
He stood in the afterglow of the setting sun, as if undaunted by the storm behind him, and flashed a smile towards me.
Xavier's pov :
I lay on my back, and there was a real difference between the stars I saw on the plain and what I saw in the Blood Moon Pack.
Because of the wounds all over my body, instead of feeling any pain anywhere now, it was just numbness and immobility all over my body.
I felt my life draining out of me a little, but I didn't dare close my eyes, the wheel battle had just ended and Nora hadn't handed over the Moonstone to me yet.
The rogues watching the battle around me hadn't diminished at all, only they were all in silence now, and I felt myself showing the strength I deserved, the power of my bloodline, something I couldn't identify, seemed to really burn in my blood.
"Xavier!" said Geb in my mind looking at me with weary but steely eyes, "I feel the strength you have inspired, you are the worthy heir of the bloodline!"
I don't know how long I waited again, it seemed to be between my closing and opening of my eyes, Kyra came to me and leaned down to look at me, "You have done it young man, the rogues of the plains agree with you."
"Where are the moonstones?"
Kyra held out her hand towards me and she pulled me up off the ground.
"Right here," Kyra said as she pulled a small package from her black cloak.
I took this package in my hands and lifted a small corner, and immediately the moonlight shone out from somewhere else, lighting up my face.
"If there's a fake..."
"This has to be real." Kyra interrupted, looking at me firmly.
I nodded, "I'll just have to trust you."
It was then that I looked around me for a moment, surrounded by a galaxy of glowing green eyes in the dimness of the earth.
I tilted my head towards the ringing night sky and let out a low howl that belonged to the victor.
All around me the wolves crouched down and howled back towards the air in response.
I had made it, and I was going to get back as fast as I could.
Lsabella! Wait for me.
