Chapter 62
Lsabella's pov :
The sun's light was departing from the East Continent, and the night was about to spread.
But the moon has been hiding behind the dark clouds, and there is no sign of any clear sky yet.
I can only choose to believe Brielle's prophecy completely, we have no way back.
I was a little anxious, but I couldn't show it. I was the Alpha of the pack, and I needed to instill confidence in my people.
I sat by the fountain pool with a whetstone in front of me, and I slashed my dagger across the whetstone again and again, the tip gradually sharpening and able to glint coldly in the faint light of a distant street lamp.
This is my parents handed down to me the dagger, the handle is still inlaid with stones, one of which is broken, and I have not found the opportunity to repair.
I seldom mention my parents, because whenever I tell their story, I am bound to recall the tragedy of ten years ago, when both my parents gave their lives in the battle to defend the wolves.
But that wasn't all the pain I fe< it was just a prologue, as we watched out for another attack by the rogues while at the same time beware of the other wolves that would swallow us up.
These would be nothing to miss, and could only be used in the strategic summary of the wolves.
Besides, I don't like nostalgia, my mission is pushing me to look forward.
Xavier took the dagger from my hand, knowing what it meant to me.
"It's almost over."
The words were both a sure statement and a reassurance, but all in all Xavier was at my side and he could make me believe firmly that I was not alone, that I had people around me who could I help me any time I needed it again, and that was enough for me.
I didn't say anything, but I held Xavier's hand tightly.
Dr. Wolf sent tonic medicine for Xavier, because Xavier dragged his injured body for so long, it would still take a toll on his body. I then asked Dr. Wolf to boil some tonic medicine to come, even if Xavier did not want to lie in the hospital bed, he still had to recover his body through other means.
Xavier took the medicine, the bowl against his lips, but did not drink it.
"I'd better drink it tomorrow, there is still a battle tonight, in case I sleep until dawn so do?"
I looked at Dr. Wolf and he explained, "This medicine does have a calming component, but it won't let Xavier drink it and sleep until dawn."
Professionals should be trusted with professional issues.
"Drink it," I persuaded Xavier: "Didn't you say you'd be with me for the rest of my life? If you don't take care of your body, how else can you fulfill your promise."
Xavier might not listen to Dr. Wolf, but he would definitely listen to me.
He stared at me for three seconds through the mist steaming up from the soup, and then obediently drank it down.
He displayed the empty bowl to me.
"Awesome."
I rubbed his hair.
"But I seem really sleepy," Xavier looked disgruntled in the direction Dr. Wolf had left, "Some days I still don't like to trust doctors, we're werewolves and we know every wound we've sustained."
I broke Xavier's face over to look at me, "We can go rest for a while, there's no moon yet anyway."
There were a few small huts in the North Woods that had previously been used for the warriors on patrol to rest.
I pulled Xavier down on a simple plank bed.
"Let's rest like this for a while, if there is really a situation, we will surely hear it when the alarm is pulled."
Xavier was still holding my hand, and hearing my words he nodded obediently.
"Shall I sing you a lullaby?"
"What is it?" I opened my eyes again in the darkness, Xavier was lying close to me, we were so close that I was able to see his face in the darkness. I couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Why are you singing me a lullaby?"
"I don't know," Xavier laughed out too, "I just wanted to sing it, is that okay?"
I nodded, "Sure."
After getting my permission, Xavier hummed a beautiful melody in his low voice.
It was like an old song that I seemed to have heard as a child, and probably occasionally in wolves, I could hear mothers singing such songs to their children.
Xavier was singing it to my ears and, of course, to his own.
The two of us were enjoying a moment of peace in this small room with the calming song.
Gradually, the song got quieter and quieter until it finally stopped.
I could hear Xavier's undulating breathing as he fell asleep.
I wasn't awakened by an alarm, Kyra informed me with a psychic link.
"What's happening?"
"It's not the moonstone, don't worry miss. But the Alpha Council is looking for you now, and they say they need your cooperation now."
I immediately sat up.
Xavier was still sleeping peacefully, and I hesitated a little, thinking that there was no need to wake him up now, maybe the Alpha's attention was really on Jasper tonight, then Xavier could really sleep until dawn.
And even if there was an attack, it didn't matter, Xavier was now in the North Woods, the alarm could wake him up and he could throw himself into the fight at any time.
I left quietly, then gently covered the door to the house.
Kyra and Bain were already waiting for me at the door.
"Did they say specifically what it was about?"
"No, only that your cooperation was needed."
I thought about this as I walked, there were really no more than two possibilities, either they were already planning to make a move to get rid of Jasper tonight, or they were trying to trick me out and then take the opportunity to sneak up on the Northwoods.
But either way, I needed to see them before making a decision.
I looked up at the moon beneath the clouds and seemed to be able to see an edge, the soft moonlight had revealed some of it, washing away the darkness.
"How much longer until Brielle's prophecy?" I asked Kyra, who was beside me.
"It will soon be time for Brielle's prophecy to come online, but Brielle said the moon could appear at any time in this range."
I nodded, I knew everyone was in a desperate mood, but there was no need to get too nervous, although we were expecting this final blow, but that didn't mean that the process we had nothing to gain, nor that in the end if we failed, we would get nothing and simply destroy in place.
I stopped at the door, turned around and patted Kyra's shoulder: "You've worked hard, you'll get a long vacation afterwards."
Kyra froze for a moment, then immediately broke into a smile: "Thank you Miss Lsabella, then I'll make myself at home."
The door of Blood Moon Pack slowly opened, and then I walked out alone.
The Alpha camp tent was still lit, and the soldiers of the United Army were waiting for me not far away.
I followed behind them, gradually moving away from my territory.
My fingertips gently rubbed on the dagger at my waist, where the missing notch was, and as I rubbed it repeatedly, I walked inside the Alpha combined army's camp.
Jasper had a knife in his hand, stained with bright blood, and several of the other Alpha's faced him, the acrimony gaping with respite as I arrived.
They all turned their heads to look at me.
"Good evening." I waved toward them.
