Chapter 35
Jasper's pov :
Lsabella was no longer the same woman in my eyes; she seemed to have appeared in front of me in a more vivid image.
Not only was she beautiful, but she also had intelligence. Of course, the most important thing was that she had given up her guard and trusted me to bring her whatever she wanted.
I ended my call with the doctor and I felt in a very good mood, now there was only one moonstone left.
Lsabella was in the conference room meeting with a few of the Alpha's that had just arrived, sharing with them the latest information we had received.
Lsabella played an important role in the interrogation process, although she gave her usual smile when I asked her how she managed to pinpoint the key information about the "brother".
"That's why you have to trust women's intuition."
I watched Lsabella sitting in my seat, calmly answering Felix and Eric's questions.
She was in great shape, exactly the way an Alpha should be.
I actually no longer reject the feeling that I used to hate this kind of woman who is neither gentle nor tough as a man, now I totally feel that it is a right decision to have the excellent Lsabella as my Luna. Our Blue Moon Pack's future is also more reliably secured.
Once upon a time I didn't dare to guarantee it, but now I'm sure there is hope for it all.
Thinking about this, I walked into the conference room in a happy mood.
Lsabella tried to make way for me, I squeezed her shoulder and gestured for her to slowly take her seat back, I was not excluded from having my Luna sit in my main seat.
I knew the other Alpha's were watching, but I didn't care, this was supposed to be my MATE, my quasi-Luna.
"How's the talk going?"
"I was just complimenting Mr. Jasper and Ms. Lsabella with a few Alpha's for really helping me out, nothing was being interrogated and the two of them found a breakthrough after only one day."
For the first time, such a compliment as can be did not give me an uncomfortable feeling, instead I felt that it was very appropriate to put my name and Lsabella's together.
"It's Lsabella's credit, she's very perceptive and a qualified Alpha."
Lsabella suddenly looked at me in surprise and then moved away with a bit of shyness, "Mr. Jasper is exaggerating too much."
I suddenly wanted to kiss Lsabella's blushing face, but I didn't do it.
"Then let's decide and then go as soon as possible, preferably with the list booked before dinner."
Lsabella's pov :
I weighed Vincent's confession with more or less hesitation in my mind; what he explained was a big outlier from what we had expected before.
Vincent explained that the small group of rogues he was in lived on unowned public land between Silver Moon Pack and Fai Moon Pack, where there was a river valley bottom inhabited by some older rogues, and in the hands of one of the older men, there was the moonstone.
"How did you confirm that it was the Moonstone?"
"The moonstone can emit a moon-like light in the water, we've all seen it."
I fell into silence.
We needed to trust Vincent because he was the only person on the continent who had passed on this information to us so far. But there was no way to believe all of his words, which must have been mixed with lies.
I was caught in a tangle.
The list was set in the course of my dinner, I, Jasper, Eric, Aaron has Felix five alphas, and the accompanying Beta, Gamma and the herd warriors, a total of thirty people composed of the team in the morning in the direction of the river valley bottom.
After I returned to my room, I told Xavier the news.
We began discussing tactics overnight and took stock of supplies.
"The terrain of this river valley is very special, let's not go alone when we go in, okay? It's best to stay together."
I knew what Xavier was worried about, but there was no way I could guarantee him 100 percent.
I took his hand and asked him to stop what he was doing and look up at me.
"Don't worry too much about me, Xavier. the fact that I survived safely before I met you is proof of my ability to continue living."
Xavier followed my hand and took it back, he squeezed it very hard as if I was about to leave him.
"But there's no one around who's worth trusting."
"Why not? I think Felix is very worthy of my trust, and Jasper, he certainly won't hurt me before the full moon."
"Do you trust him that much already? He's a cunning man!" Xavier's voice suddenly ramped up.
I froze, I had almost forgotten that he liked me, and if that was the case, it made sense for him to be hostile to Jasper.
"I'm sorry," he's apologizing to me again.
I tried to keep my voice level: "Why are you apologizing to me?"
"Because I made you angry..."
His voice got lower and lower, but I could still hear his words clearly.
I felt a little funny because I didn't expect him to understand it this way... was it because of his attacking Charlotte and forcibly kissing me earlier?
I don't know what I was expecting, but I was just hoping he would say the answer I was satisfied with.
Anyway, what I wanted to hear was not an apology.
I let go of the hand I was holding and looked up to meet Xavier's alarmed look.
In as serious a tone as I could muster, I asked.
"So do you know why I'm angry?"
"...No."
Great, so he hadn't figured out why yet.
"Then think about it, and come back to me when you figure it out."
Xavier was left hanging as I turned to the other side to sort out the wound medication.
"I'm just worried...worried that you're getting away from me."
It was a sad thought, and my heart fluttered for a moment.
I put down the medicine in my hands and circled back to Xavier.
I cupped Xavier's face and brushed my fingers against his cheek: "I want you to trust yourself that I won't run out of reach that you can catch up with, that you can come to me as long as you can keep up with me, no matter what will happen between us after that."
Xavier finally lifted his head, revealing his reddened eyes, "Really... really?"
I stood on my tiptoes and left a soft kiss on Xavier's forehead.
"Of course it's true."
Early the next morning, everyone was assembled at the entrance and exit of the Fai Moon Pack territory.
We were able to drive for most of the way, but once we got to the bottom of the river valley it was time to enter on foot. It is located in
The terrain is complex and there are several sections that are not drivable by vehicle, which is why it is also an ideal place for older rogues to protect themselves.
We turned around for a long time in the mountains without roads, and then stopped at the entrance to the river valley.
It was only when I got out of the car to take stock of my equipment and prepare to enter the valley that I noticed them bringing a frail man out of the car.
"What's going on?" I grabbed Jasper's arm, "Why did you bring Vincent? That's not what we talked about yesterday!"
Jasper smoothly pushed me aside, then spoke to me quietly.
"We have to bring him with us, if there's something wrong with what he said, halfway through we're interrogating him before it's too late."
"This is the first time I've ever heard this kind of reasoning, this shithole is perfect for an ambush, are you afraid he won't have a chance to send you into the ring?"
Jasper staggered for a moment, his attitude eased a bit: "Of course I know this reasoning, but this is how collective combat is, if we dare not guarantee Vincent's previous confession is absolutely correct, we are the ones responsible for any problems."
I felt very puzzled: "Since when are you afraid of taking responsibility?"
Jasper instead gave me a white look: "Although the legend of the Moonstone is unfounded, but at least it is the existence of the Moon Goddess and the entire East Continent, the Alpha now is much more important than the previous fake sexmate controversy."
I swept a glance behind Jasper, they really all looked serious, much better prepared than the previous joint army.
"They were willing to listen to me before because they didn't want to step up and take charge of these things, and who wants to be responsible all day? But now it's different, maybe which Alpha will be able to become the new leader on the East Continent after swallowing the Moonstone alone."
It was the first time I heard Jasper speak to me like that, and I felt that his image in my eyes was different again.
"Then you know all this, how are you still willing to do this tired work."
"The greater the ability, the greater the responsibility," Jasper shrugged, and then threw me a confident smile: "I was born to host Alpha meetings."
I was also infected by his smile: "No shame, you have capital to be proud of."
The other Alpha's were calling out to us now, and Jasper and I ended our conversation, walking one after the other towards the other: "Good thing we can trust each other in this valley."
"Yes, I trust you."
I added after a moment's thought, "Who first offered to bring Vincent here? Did you guys have another meeting after I got back to the room?"
"It was Aaron, he's a smooth guy, good at being the good guy."
I frowned, how was it him again.
