Chapter 39
Lsabella's pov :
The cold water of the lake was about to freeze me.
I was planning to kill them both, but I couldn't really play well in the confined space.
Ezra was stabbed through the neck, while Vincent only received a few stabs to the arm. With his inside man on the outside, I had no choice but to flee and jump into the water.
I swam to the opposite shore before climbing up. The lake is very deep, I can feel something glowing at the bottom of the lake, but I'm sure it's not a moonstone, but this light is weak and thin, the real moonstone should be as soft and powerful light as moonlight.
Things really did not go as smoothly as I thought, before really was impulsive.
But the good news was that I had entered deeper into the river valley, and if this part of Vincent's story wasn't a lie, it meant that I was closer to the moonstone as well.
By this time, I had a chance to observe the interior of this river valley floor. I had traveled a long narrow distance to get here, but it was unexpectedly open, a valley floor that housed a small lake, which I estimated might be as big as a Blood Moon Pack. The cliffs on either side are high, but there is a possibility of climbing out.
But the most important thing for me now is to find the whereabouts of the Moonstone, although I don't have any clue now. According to the map from memory, the moonstone was still deeper in this valley.
I decided to keep going forward.
As I went deeper into the valley, I gradually found some traces that someone had lived here. Tables, iron pots, and long-extinguished fires. Is this the place where the old man among the rogues Vincent mentioned retired?
This seems reasonable, but where are the people who were here? Why are they all gone? Did they get the news of the arrival of the joint army in advance?
While thinking this, I carefully walked deeper.
Near the bottom of the cliff, I noticed a tent unique to witches, as well as a small medicine pot.
The fire below seemed to have just been extinguished and was still smoldering. I walked over and gently touched the edge of the pot, and it was still hot.
There were people here, and they had just left.
Every pack's warriors are likely to face rogues, as they often collude with them to help them cover their scent and attack our pack.
In such cases, our hatred of rogues is also natural, and the hatred of werewolves and witches is passed down from generation to generation in this way.
So when I realized there was a witch here, my guard was raised to the seam again, and although I had no experience with witches in close combat yet, she was in the dark, I was in the light, and I was alone and needed to be a little more cautious.
I drew my dagger and picked up the curtain to enter the tent.
This tent was not big, but it was still big enough for a witch to live in.
Inside were piles of medicinal herbs and jars of tools, as well as cushions and crystal balls with flower patterns common to witches.
These are the descriptions I read in the book, and I didn't expect the place to be set up exactly as described.
But no one was here.
I couldn't help but squat down and look at the crystal ball.
The book said that the witch's crystal ball is very powerful and can see the past or future that you want to know.
I know I shouldn't be attracted to these things at this time, but I want to know too much, the crystal ball is right in front of me , and my heart is wavering.
I want to know too much about the past and the future, the war ten years ago, the war that will come after that, how we will win or lose, and the death of people I care about...
Would I know too much, perhaps the most important thing at hand is where the moonstone is.
The inside of the crystal ball really began to change, my original reflection in the small figure, now together with the crystal ball inside the undulating fog soft together, turned chaotic.
Is it really that amazing?
I subconsciously took a step back, I both felt some fear of the unknown, but I could not look away.
The pattern inside the crystal ball changed and I saw a very blurry figure, but the moment I saw him I decided he was Xavier.
There was nothing unusual about the Xavier in the crystal ball, just his usual appearance, very much to say that there was something different, that is, he kissed me several times in this short image of a few dozen seconds... When did we get close? Or do I actually have these things in my head?
I was both shy and embarrassed and covered my face.
There was a very subtle rattle, but I caught it with precision.
I bounced up in a flash, the tip of my knife aimed at the source of the sound.
Only to see in the doorway stood an old woman wearing the cloak of a see cloak, her pale face still revealing an air of cunning that I hated; she was a witch.
Xavier's pov :
I followed the same route as last night and made it to the exit of the river valley as fast as I could.
Facing the blood vines that climbed on either side of the exit, there was no end in sight. I wrapped my bare skin with fabric as much as possible, leaving only a pair of eyes, and then without any hesitation, rushed in as fast as I could.
Sure enough, after running a few steps, these blood vines suddenly came back to life, they pulled out long vines and wrapped around my body like crazy, and I kept waving the dagger in my hand with great speed to cut the vines that were binding me.
Finally, when the vines were almost trapping my entire body, I reached the interior of the valley and the vines could not reach over.
I don't know if it was a heart effect or something else, but I slowly removed the remaining vine mutilations from my body and simply cleaned up the red marks the vines left on my body, and I seemed to feel some of my strength disappearing.
But look on the bright side, I still have three hours to go.
It was a circular space that was really easy to defend and hard to attack.
There seemed to be a lake in front of me, and now I couldn't see anyone coming. I didn't know where Lsabella had gotten to, and whether she had been attacked.
I don't have time to think about this, the most important thing now is to get the moonstone from the witch as soon as possible.
I didn't even have to look for it, I turned around and saw the witch, who was standing not far away, seemingly waiting for me.
The witch didn't have her pointy hat on, and now I could see her face. It was exactly the same as I remembered, and the years had not left their mark on her face. I had grown into a man, but she had not aged.
"You're really here after all. My name is Nora, I was in such a hurry the last time we met that I didn't have time to introduce myself."
I didn't put away my dagger, instead the tip of the blade was pointed directly at Nora, full of hostile vigilance: "I don't care about these things, where is the moonstone? Give it up quickly!"
But this witch seemed to be very advanced, because she was not worried at all that I would lunge forward and bite her neck off.
"You need to pass a test, and only those who succeed will get the moonstone."
"What test?"
Nora took two more steps in my direction, "Do you really have the courage?"
I suppressed my instinctive reaction of backing up and just stood still: "What's there to be afraid of?"
Nora sneered as she extended her fist towards me.
I looked over with a slight probe, but was not prepared for her sudden spreading of her palm.
A black mist spread out from her palm, and I couldn't close my breath in time to inhale a little.
"You..."
Everything was too late, I fell backwards and was unconscious for a moment.
Lsabella's pov :
There was a witch standing in the direction of the doorway.
This witch was very calm, and when she saw my attacking state, she immediately stopped in her tracks: "For the sake of using my crystal ball, just put the knife down first, right?"
As far as I know, it is very difficult for a witch to defeat a werewolf in close combat.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Nora, and like you thought, I'm a witch."
"All the more reason for me not to put down my sword."
Nora shook her head, and she pointed to the crystal ball behind me.
"Divining the past and future is a witch's profession, after all, so why don't you let me tell you what you don't know?"
I side-stepped out of the way a bit and let her walk over and pick up the crystal ball: "There are many things I want to know, can you solve all of them for me?"
Nora shook her head: "I'm not omnipotent, or I wouldn't be here. Sit down, son, you can get some information from here, maybe it will come in handy."
I didn't sit down, I had just arrived here and had wrestled with someone not too long ago, and although the other side hadn't caught up with me so far, I couldn't rule out that they were on their way to find me.
I looked outside the tent, it was very quiet outside now, I couldn't feel any breath.
"I'm in a hurry, you better make it short."
"It won't waste much of your time, son, when you get to be my age, you'll know that the vast majority of the time you're worried about won't actually happen."
Werewolves don't take life advice from witches, and I gesture with my eyes for her to start talking.
"I was once a very gifted witch, and I prophesied many things on the Eastern Continent with a very high degree of accuracy. People touted me as a genius at that time, and I thought I was a genius too. But one day after that, I predicted a very big thing that could affect the future of the whole East Continent.
But I didn't understand the true meaning of the prophecy at that time, and I felt the fear that I would have to do something about the witch."
I couldn't help but interrupt Nora: "So what exactly is the content of your prophecy?"
"In the near future, there will be a group of Alpha's who will give birth to two boys, and these two boys will overturn the pattern of the East Continent and reshape the world."
"Wait!" The two key words of the two brothers and the witch made a cold sweat break out on my back, so is that the truth of the matter?
"That two brothers can't be Xavier and Jasper, right? You're the witch from back then!"
I jumped up from the cushion, I know what happened to Xavier and the demons that have been tormenting him, but he was abandoned by his parents in the first place, all because of that witch's instigation!
Nora nodded: "Even if it was a bad decision, even if I will be retaliated for it, I will never regret it!"
What a vicious witch, she is still able to say such things now.
"But you've ruined Xavier's life! I'll kill you for him right now!"
I drew my dagger again and stabbed it towards her.
Nora sat right where she was, not dodging the tip of my blade in the slightest.
"Just hear me out, if you insist on killing me, you're the only one who knows these things."
I did hesitate: "You say."
Nora looked at the void with a serious look: "I know these two brothers will change this continent, then the easiest way is actually to make these two brothers turn against each other so that they cancel each other out and there is no way to stir up the storm."
I no longer want to talk nonsense with such a witch, I sneered: "Then haven't you already gotten your way? Just stop talking, right?"
"No, it's not over here."
Nora raised the crystal to my face: "The bright future in the crystal ball can not be grasped all at once, after I found that after all the efforts, all the events are still moving forward in accordance with the established route. I thought I had the most crucial information, but in fact nothing was successfully changed by me."
The crystal ball had now calmed down and no view could be seen inside, and I certainly had no way to understand the witch's arrogant thoughts.
"And then what?"
"Afterwards? Then I noticed the woman behind the brothers, her life trajectory and the two brothers' life trajectory closely linked, I had previously thought she was just a sidekick, but after failing once I suddenly realized that she might be the protagonist of this prophecy."
Another character, this story is not still reversed, right? I continued to ask questions with the mindset of listening to the story: "Oh? Who is that woman? And Xavier and Jasper's life are closely related? Then she's quite powerful, after all..."
Nora didn't have any explanation, she looked at me steadily.
I was shocked in my unconcerned state: "Wait a minute!"
Although I didn't know who Jasper had a close relationship with, the only person who had crossed paths with Jasper on Xavier's side was me so far...
"Is it me?!"
Nora nodded her head.
"Yes, Miss Lsabella. The crystal ball foretold your future, and you will get what you want."
